Just seeing this now. Wowzers! Didn’t even know that this happened. Just shows how crazy things are that these kinds of stories fall through the cracks and don’t get any attention.

Former president Barack Obama will be in Ottawa May 31 for an event hosted by think tank Canada 2020. … “President Obama is a generation-defining political leader, and an inspiration to millions around the world. Canada 2020 is thrilled to help spread his message of civic engagement, community leadership and tolerance.” …

Trump has just under 60 million Twitter followers. … Barack Obama has over 106 million. … The discrepancy is precisely the type of thing that would infuriate the current occupant of the White House and, according to the Daily Beast, it does. … https://rol.st/2ZthPLL

I think half of PP’s followers are bots.

Last night on Don Lemon show – he showed a clip where a PP supporter was being interviewd because she had shared a FB post … and when the reporter asked her if she knew that, She said that she doesn’t follow Russian posts (something to that effect). How many of the ‘very fine ppl’ are tools of foreign powers?

Somebody give PP a Nobel prize for managing to fool half (ok, less than) a nation! That is quite a feat.

    Eugene Robinson:
“The constitutional case for impeaching President Trump was best made two decades ago by one of his most servile Republican enablers,
Lindsey O. Graham…“You don’t even have to be convicted of a crime to lose your job in this constitutional republic if this body [the Senate] determines that your conduct as a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role . . . because impeachment is not about punishment. Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office.”
The political case for moving deliberately but fearlessly toward impeachment is even clearer: If timorous Democrats do not seize and define this moment, Trump surely will.”

This is a tweet from Nancy Pelosi…

There is a tweet from Trump

accusing the Obama Aministration of all kinds of nefarious things (not going to post it here)…

My first inclination was to be outraged at the lie…or to ask why isn’t Speaker Pelosi outraged…
despite all the things that Trump tweets and the media cosigns…many of the house members are holding Town Halls and meetings back home in their districts…taking care of business

besides my neighbors and coworkers…they are not into every tweet that comes out of the mouth of Trump…or Nancy for that matter…they are not what Pres Obama called Active Citizens….

sometimes things get thru the noise and the chatter….and America wakes up for a moment…

i do feel a bit dismayed at time…at the prospect of Dark Times coming to our country…that those on the margins would feel the impact first…as always…i do not want to sound like the purveyor of Doom…when i begin to feel the walls closing in…i think of Thurgood Marshall…and the NAACP Defense Fund…and how despite the ever present life threatening danger he was in…he persisted…and so i too must persist

hi Sheila, no not imagining it! The entire globe is under a cloud manufactured by power-mad (especially oil) far-right corporates including Putin, working to move us all towards Authoritarianism. For the United States, imo the first step in addressing this is to go after Trump/would-be Emperor without mercy = with hammer and tongs by every possible path and mechanism and remove him forthwith.

“If Attorney General Bill Barr had led his press conference last Thursday morning by saying,
“The Mueller report reveals that, among other things, on multiple occasions,
President Donald Trump ordered Corey Lewandowski and Don McGahn to obstruct justice,”
the House of Representatives would be planning Trump’s impeachment hearings, with probably even some Republicans in the House and the Senate putting out statements in support of the hearings.
Spoiler alert: The Mueller report revealed that Donald Trump (actually) gave those orders, along with no fewer than 11 other instances of the president attempting to obstruct justice.”

Like the Logo, the sentiment and the person, but hate the old time background scare music. Trump called him “Sleepy Joe” this morning. Does he have a photo of Joe nodding off at a meeting or something? The Biden campaign should go for comparing Joe enthusiastically running across parade routes shaking hands to Trump’s hard time getting away with Secret Service men or climbing a golf hill. That might answer the ageism potential smear. You might say how could Trump use that against Biden when he himself is old? My answer to that is when has Trump ever let projecting his own faults on others stop him?

      • April 25, 2019 at 12:07 pm

I don’t think Joe should get caught up in responding to every idiotic thing Trump says. Joe is obviously fit and leads a pretty vigorous life. Trump sits in front of the TV all day and maintains a very unhealthy diet. And I think that’s pretty obvious to most people who are paying attention.

Glad you mentioned that. I agree, Meta. Bernie is older than Joe and Trump is close in age. A one time snappy answer that makes it obvious that age = experience and experience is a good thing might shut the question down. Give me Prez Biden along with VP Kamala Harris.

William Jeffress the lawyer who represented Nixon after he left the White House:
“The way the statute reads is if the president causes any harm to an individual in retaliation for his testimony, that’s a criminal offense
carrying a prison sentence of up to ten years. And, yes, I think if you caused the firing of a law firm that caused harm to the witness and you did that specifically with intent to retaliate against the witness’ testimony, that would unquestionably be a crime.”

“With the Trump administration clearly not intending to do much to protect the 2020 election, House Democrats are once again pushing Republicans to pledge to not use hacked materials against opponents in the 2020 election.”
Republicans have ignored this request twice before. (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/4/25/1852915/-Democrats-try-again-to-get-Republicans-to-agree-to-ban-hacked-materials-from-2020-campaign)
-Seems foreign hacking of presidential elections is OK with the party who cannot win without it.

    Neal Katyal:
Who wrote the special counsel rules in the 1990’s was on ‘The Beat’ two days ago:
“And I think the most important thing for all Americans to understand is what Mueller actually said and on the first two pages of his report where he has two rules. Rule number one, I, Mueller can`t indict a sitting president and I won`t tar and feather a sitting president because I can`t indict him and he won`t have an opportunity to defend himself. And what that means he says, is that even if the president is guilty as sin, I`m not going to tell you. It`s not going to be in the report. That`s rule one.”

    • April 25, 2019 at 12:47 pm

Katyal: “Number two is if the evidence shows that Trump did nothing wrong, I`ll exonerate him, I`ll clear him. And Mueller does not do that. So when we think about what are – what are the next steps, we have to understand the Mueller report in its context. And as you just said so helpfully for the last few minutes, the report actually when you look at the evidence on obstruction is devastating.”

    • April 25, 2019 at 12:48 pm

Katyal: “I mean, Mueller points to example after example in which all the elements of obstruction of justice are met, criminal intent, an obstructive act, and a nexus to a proceeding. So when you`ll add all that together, I think I`m where the congresswoman was just a few minutes ago with you, Ari, which isTrump is going to have a day with destiny. There isn`t a way to avoid it. Congress is going to have
      to do something.”

        but this is my fear…

if the hearings that the HOUSE are conducting leads to a vote on IMPEACHMENT….it will go to the Senate…The Republicans in the Senate will NOT Impeach Trump….This will make Trump Stronger…and more Authoritative….and with Barr…as his strong man…what will happen…next…he will feel unleashed and out for revenge

  44. April 26, 2019 at 9:22 am

Folks keep saying that Congress needs to Impeach Trump….but they continue to only focus on the DEMS as if they are the only ones…the Senate is Controlled by Repbulicans headed by Mitch McConnell who has shown that POWER is more important than Democracy…it is not a simple deed here….no one is talking about what will happen when the Senate says NO…how emboldened TRUMP will become…what a dangerous place we will be…..are we ready for that…

    • April 26, 2019 at 10:18 am

I don’t see how the public airing of the entirety of Trump’s criminality could wind up being a strike against Democrats. We all know McConnell won’t take any action to harm Trump but that doesn’t mean We the People don’t deserve thorough answers. So I fail to see how a full and complete history of the truth for the record could hurt Dems even if the Senate fails to convict. For me, it cannot be a political decision.

    • April 26, 2019 at 10:31 am

Yes destroying Rule of Law is on the Bannon-Putin list = McConnell is their man.
Yes the Delay, Distract and Run Out The Clock strategy is in effect.
      1) We must stay absolutely focused and stop him from being re-elected.
      2) Whether he is impeached or not the process itself is highly corrosive, revealing to the public, extremely damaging.
      3) Six more years of Trump and the America we knew is gone, gone, gone and not coming back.
      4) Congress has until the end of this session to start Impeachment hearings.
