Hello, everybody! The sun is shining (where I am) and from my position on the inside it looks as if Spring may be thinking seriously of arriving. That’d be good. šŸ™‚

Thank you to NerdyW and everyone who has been contributing here in these strange times. It’s always calming to enter the village and be reminded that I am /we are not alone.

It’s always great to see you here, Lovely VC! I second your sentiment about the calming oasis here at TOD. I’m so grateful for Mama Chipstick’s one-of-kind creation, for Nerdy’s dedicated stewardship, and for the wonderful contributors and family we’ve become here to our little corner of the interwebs, including you. šŸ˜˜šŸ’‹

        Thank you, {{{D-ette}}}.

Yea, I’ll forever be grateful to the “Founder, Curator, Head Rabble Rouser, Czarina Chips, Quintessential Queen of Cool”. [Do you remember this partial list of titles you crafted for her?] Whenever I see evidence of another ‘for real’ meeting of TOD regulars I wonder if CC is aware how many family get-togethers her blog has spawned. In truth if there’s one giant wish that never leaves my mind, it’s that CC would just step back in once more, however briefly, to let us know she is doing alright and to give us an opportunity to give her a huge hug of appreciation. Seeing DannyO again would be a terrific treat too.

Spring will be here tomorrow, officially, VC (they tell us). I peeked out at the sunshine this morning and actually sat outside on my front porch for 10 minutes. I always like to reintroduce myself to the neighbors each Spring. Ha!

‘I always like to reintroduce myself to the neighbors each Spring.’ /chuckle/

Wouldn’t you know I actually saw, and waved to, my neighbour on my return from a quick trip to the Blinds store! I don’t remember seeing her all winter. The sitting on the porch now is beyond me – I never do that no matter how great the weather is in any season. (It used to befuddle my mother when I’d adamantly recommend that she sit in the back yard instead of on the porch.)

Well, yeah! Of course, silly. It will destroy their personal economy. I mean how will they live with only a $10 million raise instead of $30 million if they have to give a 100% raise to all their employees. Imagine anyone getting a 100% raise. Who gets those? No one around here gets a 100% raise. Oh, the boss does? Well, but he’s the boss. He deserves it. Oops, I mean he ā€œearnsā€ it. 😤

I think we need to include Republican Governors, Republican Secretary’s of State, Republican State Attorneys General, Republican Legislators (I refer you to the tweet above about FL legislator’s newest voting restriction idea). I could easily go on for another few lines, but these are the most egregious, and cause the most harm to the most people throughout our country.

Be careful what you wish for people.
I was listening to someone the other day (sorry, its too late at night for my brain to remember who or where) who said a lot of Americans did not trust Hillary or the government in 2016, that they felt it was all corrupt. So they voted for El Stupido in order to burn the house down. Now they don’t like what the results of that fire are doing to their country. Apparently they were not taught critical thinking skills or long range planning or how to use their brains at all when they were in school. Numb nuts. Does President Don’t-Show-My-College-Transcripts know: The electoral system was set up to protect rural slaveholders?
And does he know if we go w/the popular vote, rural areas will be given exactly the right amount of power, no more no less.
181 states have signed the National Popular Vote Compact. Magic # 270. When enough states sign on it is curtains for the Electoral College. Delaware and NM on track to add more.
= one United States person, one vote.

    • March 20, 2019 at 1:05 pm

(oops!) 181 electoral votes so far.
“The National Popular Vote bill…has been enacted into law in 13 jurisdictions possessing 181 electoral votes, including 4 small jurisdictions (DC, HI, RI, VT), 5 medium-sized states (CO, CT, MD, MA, WA), and 4 big states (CA, IL, NJ, NY).
The bill will take effect when enacted by states possessing an additional 89 electoral votes. The bill passed both legislative chambers in New Mexico (5 electoral votes) and Delaware (3 electoral votes) and is now on the desk of Governor’s Grisham and Carney.”

        Thank you BRP
This is a good movement for people to be aware of. We have people locally who have signed up to phone bank to supporters of the NPV project whenever their state legislators are getting ready to vote on this issue. We tell them to call their legislators to vote yes. They are so happy to get our calls and excited to be able to help out. I think you can contact the NPV project to help them do this, too.

Also, here is a very important article about this movement from 538.com. This process is happening pretty fast right now but as we run out of blue states to pass this legislation we face purple states where it is more difficult. And it is where the Repubs will wake up and start really fighting back. This is one of many key reasons to be aware of the makeup of your, and other, state legislatures and to work to flip as many state level red seats to blue as possible in 2020. Not to mention the fact that the 2021 state legislatures in many states will be drawing up congressional redistricting maps for the next 10 yrs.

So don’t just focus your time, energy and money on the presidency and US Congress. The Republicans very strategically spent 20+ yrs filling all the state government seats with as many Repubs as possible to control this country. More laws that affect your day to day lives are made by state legislators and state attorneys general than members of the US congress.

Trump has pulled the scab off ..for blk folks and people of color…we knew that we should be terrified…for some white folks not so much
for so,me members of the press they still cannot deal with the ugliness of white supremacy/ racism/ white privilege…and how it lurks in every white person..in some way or the other….

        I am with you, Sheila.

Each day a new low, I cannot fathom how to get through until the election and how to calm my fears about the election itself. There are some very, very, very dark forces at work. But like you, I take comfort in the inspiration that a lot of people are bringing forward. We must find beauty and light where we can.

        • 104 cd4biden
          March 20, 2019 at 3:20 pm

I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it. This country can, and has, overcome so much when we set our minds to it. We went to the moon in less than the 10 yrs we were given. We overcame the Great Depression, 2 world wars, 9/11, Katrina, just to begin the long list. I know not all of it was done the best way, and many people did not get what they should have. That is not my point. Americans rise up when given a challenge, and we will do it again.

Remember how EPA and other agency staff started copying and saving important docs right after the election because they knew the files would be wiped clean? I think, if asked, many of them would come back to help restore this work to our govt. records. And like with Katrina and 9/11, the most unsuspecting people will come forward in droves to rebuild this country.

And I love Mayor Pete Buttigieg saying we can’t go back, nor should we want to. This country will move forward to something far greater than we have ever had or could now imagine. Go back and listen to the speeches of FDR during the Great Depression. He picked this country up out of the gutter and gave it back its soul and purpose. Yes, with a war, but times are now different and we will just have to find another aspect of life to focus on. We can do this people, but not if we wander around all depressed and fearful. When you go to that place then El Stupido wins. And you know we cannot allow that to happen, if for no other reason than how would you ever face POTUS and FLOTUS, should you be so blessed, and tell them you are afraid. I do not see those 2 wandering around the world paralyzed by fear.

This is getting to be quite a missive, and a way bit too preachy, so I will stop for now.
