Apparently sometime today Mueller’s team sent the Judge that will be sentencing Manafort on Wednesday, the 96 page transcript of Manafort’s sentencing hearing from the judge that gave him 47 months. Unfortunately for Manfort, Judge Ellis gave him the chaser first, Judge Berman Jackson is coming with the shot.

It never cease to amaze me that millions upon millions of people that had no business voting for trump actually went out and voted for him. A wall and no Medicare sounds like a maximum security prison.

So glad that the world now must recognize and deal with what has gone on for decades. The fact that the FBI stumbled on to this when they were investigating something else and followed through with it impressed me so much. They were not afraid of the big names who were involved in these crimes and have treated them the way they would any other criminal. Those of us who have had affirmative action negativity thrown our way are here for all of this. Time for people to go to jail and for their sub- standard though privileged kids to be expelled.

    It’s not by chance/magic that:
    1) We’re losing our local news sources.
    2) Trump Sinclair News propaganda is controlling our local TV.
    3) Republican group Star news Digital Media is creating fake local sites: “using everything learned by decades of AM radio and Fox News to present these sites as ā€œfair and balanced,ā€ leaning into the trust that people award local sources, and taking a big lesson from Russia—if people read something on what appears to be a news site, they often don’t check to see if that site is anything more than a front.” (Mark Summer)

    • March 12, 2019 at 1:05 pm

“Pew Research study indicates that Americans continue to rate the reliability of local news sources ABOVE those of national sources. Republicans in particular trusted local news sources almost twice as much as they did national sources, but across the board a higher trust rating was awarded to local sources than national sources. It’s why thirty percent of the links created by Russian troll farms in 2016 pushed stories on local sites … or sites pretending to be local.”
“The Republican group behind the fake local sites…is aware of that…it’s their explicit strategy to take advantage of this fact. And it’s not just the way they mimic local news sites that makes them dangerous. The conservative groups took other lessons away from Russia’s 2016 social media success — such as how to manipulate search engines.”
      https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/3/12/1841475/-Republicans-no-longer-need-Russia-to-create-fake-pop-up-news-sites-they-re-doing-it-for-themselves

    • March 12, 2019 at 1:09 pm

“An investigation conducted by Snopes has uncovered a trio of hard-right Republican activists—Michael Patrick Leahy, Steve Gill, and Christina Botteri—who are working with a conservative PAC to create authentic-looking ā€œlocal newsā€ sites that are packed with false stories sourced straight from lobbyists and interest groups. And it’s no surprise that their latest additions are The Ohio Star and The Minnesota Sun.” (DK)

    • March 12, 2019 at 1:16 pm

“Across the country, real local papers and associated sites are failing as ad revenue declines.”
AP reports that “over 1,400 communities and towns have lost their local papers over the last 15 years. Cuts in revenue lead to cuts in staff, creating a ā€œdeath spiral of qualityā€ that reduces many papers to flimsy shadows of what they were two decades ago, before they pop out of existence entirely.” https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/3/12/1841475/-Republicans-no-longer-need-Russia-to-create-fake-pop-up-news-sites-they-re-doing-it-for-themselves
GOP strategy: After recently financing our independent newspaper, Lee Corporation (which now owns 46 newspapers in 21 states)
closed the doors and fired the staff without warning weeks before the last election. So there was no alternative political news. Of course they also own the city’s only mainstream (right leaning) newspaper which is full of key omissions on facts and disinformation.

I remember that Inwas all up in my feelings when this scene was shown the first time. To hear and see something on national tv that I and everyone in my generation had been told was overwhelming. It matters greatly who the writers and producers in media are. Shonda Rimes has helped to show many sides of who and what black people are and who and what they become.
This scene is the illustration of the ā€œBlack taxā€ for those of you who are not in the know.

I had a 4.0 in high school, Valedictorian, graduated from a school with a 50 % dropout rate, school was 85% minority, poor neighborhood. Neither of my parents attended college.
I was recruited by Stanford (in 1973). I had no idea where in the country Stanford was. I went to Stanford and was called “the token minority” by my roommate (whose parents were both Stanford Alumni). I was fortunate to have A Biology professor (my major) Dr. Sanchez, who told me ” You have to be twice as good as the white students. You will be judged differently.” He opened my eyes to what the outside world of privilege was. I worked all through college (20 plus hours/week) came out with a 3.7 GPA and went on to Medical School.
That whole experience was and still is a psychic scar on me. This college scandal makes me sick in so many ways…I cannot even process it.

I know it will be a mountain of work, JO’B, but Americans can do anything they set their minds to. Heck, we beat the 10 yr time line for going to the moon. So we got this. We just got to get their sorry, corrupt, slimy asses out of our government and let us, especially the women of America at it. I loved watching Nancy Pelosi’s press conference up above that JER posted. All of those responsible for overseeing putting this wonderful bill together are women! And I’ve noticed lately how many of the investigative journalists on radio, Tv and in the press are women. We know how to get stuff done people, and we will. So not to worry JO’B.

We always knew that wealthy and connected white people bought college admission and degrees for their very average to less than average children. We saw these people in classes and often thought wtf? But it has always been who you know and who you are in this country. The meritocracy argument is for the rest of us. I was not in an integrated school until I went to college and saw quickly that I could compete with almost anyone there after years of being told, often by Black people, that white students were smarter. The only thing that they had over us was opportunity and access.

Just finished listening to the news conference that the investigating agents gave about this sickening cheating scandal. As awful as all of this is, I am so thankful that this was uncovered and that there were dedicated law enforcement people who followed through on this regardless of how wealthy and well-connected these people are. One person paid as much as 6 million in bribes. We are in the age of revelation; all liars, cheaters, thieves, and predators are finally being revealed and prosecuted. They got away with their crimes for decades but lady justice and karma have finally come for them. One thing I find interesting is that the names of the actresses have come out but not the names of the cheating CEOs.

I have a tendency to make up my own lyrics to certain songs, so instead of “do you promise to funk” I sang along & chose “do you promise to vote”? Then: instead of “this is a chance to dance out of your constriction”, am all about “this a chance to vote out our constriction”. Then carry on with “Ready or not, get on your right foot.” šŸ˜‚šŸ’ƒ Please TODers bear w/ me. Gotta find moments of fun in this iQ45 madness. šŸ˜‚ cheers!

“…use their money and power to open elite doors for their mediocre children that, in turn, make it far more likely that they will succeed in life.” This is the very definition of the term “Failing Upward”

      • 78 jacquelineoboomer
        March 13, 2019 at 12:39 am

For any parent to think they are showing their children how to be “a success” in life, by cheating, means they are really showing them how to be failures in life. Just think about the trump kids — can’t find bigger losers, if you tried.

        • March 13, 2019 at 8:47 am

The parents were buying a guarantee…
This also explains why they (the children who have benefited from this affirmative/legacy action) are always so mad…they KNOW that they could not make the cut legitimately….

          • 80 jacquelineoboomer
            March 13, 2019 at 4:39 pm

If the children weren’t already set up for failure with these loser parents’ “guiding” them, they are now.

I love Joy Reid and her show but, I have been disappointed on her discussing a report on VP Biden regarding something that happened years ago. I know candidates are fair game when they declare their candidacy, and that’s fine with me. I am still waiting for discussions 2 weeks in a row on some of Bernie Sanders’ unpleasant baggage.

Exactly. Plus, and obviously you know my reasoning, I wish we would spend most of our time going after trump and not the Dem nominees or potential nominees. I know there has to be a fair accounting of their political histories for potential voters, but – as you intimate – if it’s only some and not all, that isn’t fair, anyway.
