Hello all. Super busy day. Finally caught up here and on Twitter. Am on treadmill now. Rest well as we all get accustomed to the time change.

Doesn’t being on the treadmill so late rejuvenate you and make it harder to fall asleep? That’s always been my excuse…oops, reason for not exercising at night. Of course, realistic person that I am I have a *reason* for not exercising in the early morning … and during the day….too. 😉

      Enjoy your workout, TnMG

Actually, it doesn’t. I usually get on between 8:30-9:00. Walk for 30-35 minutes, depending on various things……..how tired I am when I get on, needing to do something afterwards, etc. I go to the Y four mornings a week. Get there shortly before 7:30. I do 8 or 9 machines, ride the bike for 2 or 2.5 miles, then do a stretching routine. I’ve had this routine for years. It’s just a part of my daily living. When I can’t do this, I began to ‘feel’ it, big time.

I wasn’t really shocked at Manafort’s sentence, because when you’re an African American and by the time you’ve reached puberty you’ve pretty much figured out what’s what. By the time you’re ten and if your parents are functioning parents you’ve heard them discuss politics and life, and they’ve conveyed to you how the world sees you. But what I was shocked about was that “everyone else” seemed to have been caught off guard by this verdict. I remember the exact verdict that opened my eyes to the justice system, I was fourteen at the time and the year was 1980 and the place was Miami, Florida. And it was the Arthur McDuffie verdict. Arthur McDuffie was an insurance salesman and former Marine that had the misfortune of running a red light on his motorcycle. After the police finally caught up with McDuffie, the four pursuing police officers beat him to death and were subsequently acquitted of his murder. And from that verdict sprang the 1980 Miami Riots. I remember those riots because school was closed and they had the national guard patrolling certain neighborhoods. And the neighborhood I lived in was one the neighborhoods that was chosen. There’s nothing like sitting in your front yard and having Humvees go pass your home with men holding assault weapons staring at you. I also remember when the verdict was read, my father almost cried, I could hear the despair in his voice as he talked about the verdict. A guy riding a motorcycle gets the death penalty, and a guy that commits among his crimes fraud and damn near treason gets forty-seven months at a minimum security level federal prison, life is funny.

Bernie Sanders problem is that he thinks he knows what’s best for black people. Bernie has the mentality that says “If only they could understand me they’d know I only have their best interest in mind.” His mindset is at best insulting, and unfortunately this mindset is shared by many that call themselves “allies.” See with me, I’m not concerned about the conservative, or the ultra-conservative. I’m more concerned with the white male PhD Liberal, because that motherfucker has throughout history shown that he has a god-complex when it comes to the African American. I don’t mind a person claiming that they have all the sense, but what I do mind is a person thinking that I or we don’t have any sense at all.

Pardon my grammar, but a person is what they is. If you squeeze a lemon, lemon juice will come out. If you squeeze a grape, grape juice will come out. President Obama was squeezed the entirety of his presidency, and what came out was strength and compassion and intelligence. Bernie Sanders first time being squeezed in his thirty-years in office produced at best arrogance and bullshit.

“The story of the founder of the Florida massage parlor implicated in human trafficking just kept getting more and more interesting, in a very Trump-era way, over the weekend. First we learned that Li Yang, who goes by Cindy, attended Republican events, fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago, and even attended Trump’s Super Bowl party at his Florida golf club. Turned out, that wasn’t all. Yang had been selling access, connecting Chinese business leaders with U.S. lawmakers—and using pictures of herself with members of the Trump family to show that she could provide that access. But it gets better…. As one national security expert tweeted, “Our intel community has said China poses one of the most significant counterintelligence challenges—my money is on the Chinese Govt having at least picked up on [Yang’s] access if they didn’t direct it.”
What’s more representative of the Trump era than this? The founder of a massage parlor that, after she sold it, got busted for prostitution, with one of its clients being billionaire Robert Kraft, a close Donald Trump friend, connecting Chinese business people with Republican lawmakers … for a price … while connected to the Chinese government, which is currently eating Trump’s lunch on trade and other international issues.”

GOP voting for child marriage, um Kavanaugh, VAWA act not renewed, thousands of children abducted and jailed by Trump are missing whereabouts unknown…statutes of limitations on rape…human trafficking in the headlines….NY trying to legalize prostitution.
FACT: At least 23 women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct since the 1970s, he has a history with underage girls.
-Don’t wait for Trump and associates to legalize their own crimes against children.

      Feel compelled to say:
When last i visited a certain Canadian big city, young prostitutes were asking me for money on a busy street at midday as I shopped with two small children, one in a stroller. After prostitution was legalized that sweet city became a major Asian big gang drug import and gun problem. Will never forget the sight of a victim being pressed by two old guys on the street and she, terrified, shaking her head.

Thus punchinello told GOP donors this morning that he did not do so. Once again exchanging Truth for boy trumpsky performance entertainment.
Big Brother controls past, present and future in ‘1984’. Fake U.S. president tries to negate all 3 in his lies, scorn, trash talk, angry streams of unconsciousness, outrage, attention seeking, secret meeting with dictators, nonsense, sarcasm, ridicule, humiliation, (self) hatred, retweeting of fake news, and denigrating white nationalist innuendo, for starters.
    – btw, who is recording every single detail of his daily exploits for the record?

Try as I might to avoid feeling so, I must admit that I am beginning to get anxious about what to expect in the Democratic primary for 2020.

So many good candidates …. so much to consider …. what are my priorities in terms of what I want from the ultimately nominee and ultimately the next president ???

I have to think really hard and weigh so much ….

are there others on TOD who are having a much easier time choosing “your candidate”? what is the priority issue for you?

A hard hell no on Tulsi Gabbard and the carpetbagger spoiler tax dodger Bernie, not the right time for Kirsten Gillibrand and Elizabeth Warren because we need people who know the smart way to fight and I do not see either one of them being able to bring the youth vote. A no on Biden because he is the past and we need to have our eyes firmly on the future and new ways of winning and governing for a 21st century. A hard yes on Kamala Harris, like all of her positions and fearlessness as well as her authenticity and the fact that she is a strong POC. If he can get more press, Julian Castro may surprise many people. As for Cory Booker, I have never felt that he was sincere. Everything he says and does appears to be studied and designed to fit whatever group he is addressing at the time. His very obvious jealousy of PBO is off-putting as well. All in all, we have an embarrassment of riches and I hope that none of them go for scorched earth practices against their opponents (Bernie is already doing this, but I do not consider him to be one of ours. I can vote for most of them in the general with a clear heart and mind that they will help to repair the damage of the current shit show administration. Finally, I would say take Jon Faveau’s advice: Forget arguments (usually spurious ones) about electability and vote for which ever candidate’s policy positions and values, not expecting perfection, that most line with yours and work hard for that person. As the months play out we will learn many surprising things about the candidates, but how they handle the pressure will reveal more about them. If the primary were held in Florida today, I would vote for Kamala without reservation. She can handle the domestic and foreign challenges and make us proud.

That’s a damn good analysis of the entire situation, Imcae72. Spot on about Booker, I like the guy and he’s as smart as anyone. But he just doesn’t grab me like Obama did. Now maybe the caparison isn’t fair to Booker, but whomever I’m voting for I want to have an emotional attachment to them. I had it with Barack and Hillary and even Bill, all three of them grabbed me. I feel it with Harris and Castro and Stacy Abrams. At the end of the day I’m going to vote for the Democratic nominee whomever it is.

    • March 11, 2019 at 6:50 pm

      Linda,

I decide what issues are most important to me and decide what MY position is on each issue. I then research each candidate’s past voting record (if they have one) and their current position and assign a numerical value based on how closely they match my own. I end up with ranked list; comes in handy that way if my number one drops out, I know whom to next support. The only presidential that I failed to do this was 2000; I initially supported McCain as I was personally acquainted with him. When he dropped out, I voted Dem in the GE. My pleasant surprise was 2008, my gut said Obama and it turned out that he ranked #1 on my matrix!

This time around, my gut says Kamala, however, I’m keeping an open mind and am in fact sending donations to Kamala and Castro. Next week, I’m adding Buttigieg, and Abrams if she’s in, to the list. I want a diversified group of voices on the debate stage, discussing thought out policy ideas…

I still like Biden for his foreign policy expertise and ability to help get our world view back on a favorable footing. However, I realize many are throwing out the old for the new. I wanted Kamala paired with Biden as a strong duo with the potential for her to take the lead spot with a younger new candidate taking the #2 spot on year five for second term election. Secondary figures I like are Beto, Castro, and Abrams.
