Mark Meadows may be BFF with Rep Cummings and he may have POC in his family but what he and others in Congress demonstrated today is they haven't the foggiest idea what institutional racism is. And that should be a disqualifier to hold high public office.
I'm trying to square the statement from Cohen that he can't fathom Trump involved in domestic violence yet he was the enforcer who carried out about 500 threats for Trump and he believes Trump's saying he could shoot somebody and get away with it was not a joke.
Only explanation is that he is referencing Trump’s behavior toward his children and wife. Other than that, have no idea meta.
Would be worthwhile for someone to ask him. My sense, after watching today, is that he wouldn’t lie.
It may simply be a case of cognitive dissonance. I’m saying I’m just not clear how he can say he’s seen and carried out the essential insistent brutality of mobster Trump, even suggest that there will be violence if Trump is not re-elected, and then be so perfectly sure about Trump never engaging in domestic violence. I’m also keeping in mind the well defined and exhibited sadism that runs through Trump’s narcissism and the manifestation that we see not only in the sick manipulation of emotions at his hate rallies but in policies such as the kidnapping, caging and trafficking of toddlers ripped from their parent’s arms. Cohen sees Trump as charismatic and Melania as a nice sympathetic figure but we’ve also seen a nasty brutal side of her as well. So it’s like trying to understand a crime syndicate full of cruel misfits and misanthropes centered on power and money.
As one who has been there I can honestly say most people are totally unaware of those who commit domestic violence. And it may sound classist of me, but those who are richer and better connected have the ability to hide it even more, and so do their victims. I was raised in a family where the unspoken motto was “look good at all costs” and it made it easy for my husband to abuse and me to not tell a soul. And it doesn’t have to be physical violence where you can see it. Mine was also emotional and sexual, things that don’t show in public, even to best friends. Just looking at all the rest he has done I have been sure for quite a while that he is an abuser. So no need to keep working to square the statements, meta.
My heart goes out to you, cd, and thank you for speaking the truth about domestic violence. I don’t know how anybody could look at Trump’s sorry ugly criminal life and think they know the depth of his viscousness and cruelty. He’s raped young girls with his friend Epstein for chrissakes. Last year we saw photos of groups of girls walking from one city location to another in the middle of the night in NY. And being transported on planes. Where are they now? Are these kidnapped children far right political pawns, slaves, what?
A friend told me of an an ICE officer who couldn’t bring herself to say the word “children”. She would only sneeringly refer to the children as UAMs (unaccompanied minors). The interviewer finally got her to say the word, but with such hatred. And these are the people taking care of unprotected, often pre-verbal children. A forgiving person by nature – I will never forgive any of this.
