Good Morning everyone. Have a good weekend !

Wish we could have PBO back in the White House.

    • February 9, 2019 at 12:59 pm

Our POTUS…so excellent that Fakes news was forced to scrap about. Stabilized a dire economy that has even weathered Trump (for now).

So true! That video reminded me why I detest Andrew Card – W’s COS (make that POS) – couldn’t put my “finger” on it lately. Ugh.

        Otherwise, happy Saturday!

Clothes don’t make the man. Mr Obama epitomized the elegant yet modern view of a man at work, doing his job to the best of his ability. No posed photos over a phone and a pile of books and papers totally unread.

Michelle Obama wisely postponed her book talk in my fair city because we are dolts about driving in snow. So far, there isn’t much. Now I have to wait until March 19th but am grateful to have tickets with friends!

Stay safe, warm and dry. Seems like a good day to curl up with a book, next to a roaring fire with wine and good eats nearby. Even though I mostly enjoy the semi-tropical weather that we have in Florida, I would enjoy some days of changing seasons. The first time that I saw real snow was on a trip to Vail Colorado to try to learn to ski. I ditched the lesson for apres ski activities, but it was a lovely setting.

What did everyone, who watched it, think of Elizabeth Warren’s speech?

    • February 9, 2019 at 1:44 pm

      Senator Warren:
“It won’t be enough just to undo the terrible acts of this administration. We can’t afford just to tinker around the edges – a tax credit here, a regulation there. Our fight is for big, structural change. This is the five of our lives. The fight to build an America where dreams are possible, an America that works for everyone. And that is why I stand here today to declare that I am a candidate for president of the United States of America.”

Her message and momentum will always be shrouded by falling for #45’s distract and put on the defense game. It showed her to be weak and lacking in judgment and confidence. We need someone who has the smarts, the sharp elbows, and the ability to draw all kinds of people from all over the country to her/his standard. Warren does not fit the bill

        • February 9, 2019 at 2:24 pm

          CEB hi and thanks,
Sen Warren stands for a lot of good things and we can’t let Putin’s boys shut her down using empty manufactured issues. (You know GOP couldn’t give a hoot about our First Nations.) Yes she is a critical force in the Senate. Bringing life and death issues to the forefront is very important now. We need the big overdue discussion. Hey we all like Ms. Kamala but this is too early to shut down other Democrats!

I agree. Let’s not pick apart our own side. I have a few issues with Senator Warren, but like her people stands and ability to explain issues to the public. I love Kamala too, but just like every candidate I am sure I will disagree with some of her stands too.

Truth be told, I listened today for the first time to a full speech/campaign pitch by Sen. Warren – I’ve always been a touch turned off by her, in the past, but this year I’m trying to keep wide-eyed about all of ’em. There were many parts of her speech today that touched on the poor and middle class – and I’m a big fan of what unions have done for our country, so I’m glad she spoke of their value – that I really, really liked.

Still a big fan of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but I’m considering all of them. Whoever gets the nomination, as of today I really want Stacey Abrams to be the VP candidate. I would love to see TWO WOMEN on the same ticket. Hell, it’s been two men running together for centuries. 🙂

And I want ALL these treasonous fuckers in jail for the rest of their lives…. AND I want all their $$$ and possessions to pay down the debt… or fund health care. Because of the seedy characters that form mold on this pathetic administration and everyone they associate with, we all need at least some mental health care!!! Over 2 years of this toxic waste. 31. February 10, 2019 at 10:16 am

Good Morning …TOD….i do not want to say that my spirit is low…but it is..

there have been multiple role outs of Democratic candidates for President..I have been impressed by Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren…interesting about Warren…she is very specific with her ideas of policy changes…i think that it is the professor/teacher in her…

Th attacks on Warren and Harris…are getting brutal… that includes the memes that the press won’t let go…the prosecutor meme for Harris and the Native for Warren…

i thought in the beginning that having so many candidates was a good thang..but i am getting candidate over load…..

one thing i am feeling good about is the hearings that are beginning in Congress…this will become the vetting of Trump that did not happen in 2016….it is absolutely neccessary for the DEMS in Congress show the criminality of Trump and his surrogates

although folks are still talking about winning over certain white voters…they seem to have forgotten that those voters who voted for Trump based on racism…white supremacy…and xenophobia…..we must bring new voters to the polls…and just like in the midterms we should run on our value…universal health care…raising the minimum wage… climate change…which are more mainstreamed, despite what Trump/GOP/and the media says..

Sheila, I agree. With all that we are going through personally, I am very careful about how much politics I absorb during the day. It is very easy to get discouraged, the hearings in Congress and this wonderful community of TOD keeps me going. I truly do believe in the Citizens of the US. We have much to overcome. But we will.

Sheila, we will hang in there together.

Pace yourself; we are in the early stages and we as well as the female candidates knew what was coming. Forewarned is forearmed for the wise. Remember, PBO us to ignore the noise and to work until the last vote is counted. We knew the evil forces would not give up easily and that we will wound up bloody but must be unbowed. They want our tears and despair and we can deny them this. We are already winning and that is why they are so desperate that their lying, cheating, hypocrisy and evil is out front as never before. We just need to keep our eyes on the prize.

Saw this earlier on Twitter and just cried in gratitude of this one more example that our country is not completely broken; that there is goodness and kindness everywhere from all kinds of people toward all kinds of people. We must remember to be optimistic and to keep close to our hearts that most of us really are good people who are just trying to figure out how to live and would not hurt a fly. Let’s keep these stories coming as we resolve to do everyday acts of kindness in our own world.

I don’t know why it is so hard for people to care about people who fall on hard times? It is so much easier to be compassionate than to shun people. This made me cry because it feels like only people who are new immigrants gets the idea of America.

In my county a few years ago, the schools went through the 9th graders records and anyone who did not have proof of being vaccinated was sent home and could not return until they had proof of such. At least a quarter of the 9th graders at my school were affected. Parents did not want young teens hanging around out if school and took care of this quickly. I was a 30 something graduate student when there was a measles and mumps outbreak on Florida college campuses. I had had all of the childhood diseases (measles and mumps at the same time when I was 9), but had not had a rubella shot or any exposure to it. Was sent to a clinic where I sat with the toddlers to get a booster MMR shot. Those of us who lived through the horrors of the polio years know what a blessing vaccination is and are furious with these irresponsible parents who are putting so much of us at risk. They should be charged with child abuse and the kids vaccinated because their privilege is a clear and present danger to all of us.

        February 10, 2019 at 11:50 am

Had a cousin a few years older than myself who contracted polio and eventually died from it. I remember long lines that wrapped around a neighborhood school and down the street was my sister and I waited to have our polio booster serum. By then it was a pink medication placed on a sugar cube so that kids would take it ( my older brothers got the shots. You can still see the mark on the shoulder). There was another measles outbreak and my sister that is 5 years younger got the booster shot via the gun injector. We have come so far in children’s health that many have forgotten the many deaths or think that they cannot happen again. We have healthy children because the right steps have been taken at the right time. Those anti-vaxxers are criminals. Rant over.

One of the maddening things is that the doctor who wrongly connected vaccinations to autism has been found to be a liar and a charlatan. Then we had that wannabe actress Jenny McCarthy running all over the country spreading lies. There are no easy answers regarding autism, time and research are the only answers. If anyone has a reason to be suspicious regarding vaccinations is Black people because we have been used as medical guinea pigs, but as with everything about living in this country, we weigh the options and take our chances.

To be 18yrs old and not vaccinated is dangerous especially for a male who gets the mumps at an older age. It will make males sterile. He dodged a bullet all those years. Good on him.

I remember my oldest son born in 1972 was starting high school and had to get another measle vaccine to be able to go to high school. Even though he had all of his vaccines he was in a group between certain years that got the shots a few months too early to be effective. My third child got the mumps as a kindergartener even though she had all of her vaccines on schedule. My fourth and youngest child got the measles during an outbreak when we lived in Juneau even though she had all of her vaccines on schedule. Both girls did not have severe symptoms and we were told that they were mild cases due to their having had the inoculations. I had always thought if you got the vaccines you would not get the diseases.

        February 10, 2019 at 3:29 pm

In `1951 my grandfather got the mumps from his two first born grand kids and it almost killed him he was so sick. These anti-vaxers are enemy agents weaponizing their child’s disease to kill people. Anyone who is exposed to the disease because of an anti-vaxer should be able to sue them in civil court.

          February 10, 2019 at 5:17 pm

I believe in vaccines and as a public school teacher I was very worried during my first pregnancy because I found out my own inoculations did not include one of the measle strains that was very dangerous for unborn babies. I prayed very hard that I would not be exposed. The medical team made sure I got the vaccine right after the birth of my child.
I wish those that will not get the shots could not go to public school, but unfortunately they can still be in lots of public places exposing everyone.

Yesterday: “As the conference committee gets close to wrapping up its proposal, it’s looking like the number will be … somewhere between $1.8 and $2.0 billion. Included in that number will be some funds that can be spent on “bollard fencing,”…By dedicating some funds to bollard fencing, Republicans will be able to claim that they secured some “wall” or “barrier” or whatever they decide to call it. But it won’t be much.” (DK)
