I’ve had that shit happen to me ever since I was a teenager. I’ve been followed in department stores, I’ve been asked to show my id when I’ve used my credit card, never mind that the people in line in front of me didn’t have to produce an id to make a purchase, they also used their credit cards. Once my wife and I took a cashiers check to the bank to deposit it into our savings account. The teller called over the bank manager, and for the next hour my wife and I had to validate every inch of our existence to the manager (that moment right there really hurt me, it wasn’t the fact that I had to go through it, it was the fact that my wife was with me, this proud black educated women had to suffer that indignity). Only after getting the regional manager on the phone we could deposit the check into our account. Have you ever had a real estate agent tell you “oh you might be more comfortable living in a different part of town?” of course you haven’t, and this was AFTER the real estate agent did a financial inquiry and found out that your financial situation was top notch and we were ready to put down a 50% down payment on the house. Those are just some of the stories that I have, I’ve got a ton more to tell you, trust me. America you are goddamn right that black people are mad. That’s the fucking struggle that we face, day in and day out. I’m not even going to tell you about the interactions I’ve had with the police after getting pulled over, I’ll give you a hint though, black man driving a BMW. That’s the fucking struggle that we mentally must get ready to face BEFORE we even walk out the front door. Its the small indignities that wear you out, death by a thousand cuts.

So true Don. I have heard and SEEN these same stories from and happening to young Black men my whole life. In SoCal is NO different if not worse. We have had the worst police department in Los Angeles, CA and other CA towns as far as the treatment of African Americans, Latinos, and other groups of color. It takes a mental toll on you and it’s all done on purpose. No wonder we don’t live as long or have hypertension at levels higher than most other cultures. I thought the ‘whites and the blacks’ were 2 families having a dispute (we heard the details daily on BBC news) until BBC said one day that injuries were in the 100s and i realized it wasn’t just a family thing. I asked my Mom who are the whites and the blacks? There were French descendants in our neighbourhood and one of them passed by during our discussion, my mom pointed to the gentleman and said he is white to which i promptly responded ‘he’s not white he is Mr Liddie. It was quite an eye opener to discover that for some folks you couldn’t have different kinds/colours of people like different colour leaves on the trees etc. To this day i still cannot understand such hatred of a fellow human being. it is really heart breaking and i sympathise with all those who have to suffer at the hands of those who cannot see the beautiful diversity of all of God’s creations. Just a reminder that despite our differences we are all God’s creations. LOVE stay strong their hatred should not be your problem, unfortunately too often they make it yours.

I’m not even going to tell you about the interactions I’ve had with the police after getting pulled over, I’ll give you a hint though, black man driving a BMW. That’s the fucking struggle that we mentally must get ready to face BEFORE we even walk out the front door. Its the small indignities that wear you out, death by a thousand cuts.

So true Don. I have heard and SEEN these same stories from and happening to young Black men my whole life. In SoCal is NO different if not worse. We have had the worst police department in Los Angeles, CA and other CA towns as far as the treatment of African Americans, Latinos, and other groups of color. It takes a mental toll on you and it’s all done on purpose. No wonder we don’t live as long or have hypertension at levels higher than most other cultures. Some days I just want to scream with the injustice that occurs every day not just to me but to the young people. This should have stopped happening years ago. It has become a CANCER on America now and it will last beyond America when she is NO MORE. That appears to be the goal.

Years ago went to a lawyer with my fiancé after he + white friend were picked up and taken to the police station for no reason. Once there he alone was beaten. We were advised to let it go so his family wouldn’t be targeted. police targeted his brothers and family anyway. when will this end. we’re everywhere homo sapiens with universal flesh and a holy mess of red blood. want.to.live.equally.in.peace.

Don – I think most of us visit TOD because it is a place where you can “bring it here,” sharing realism along with that old quest for understanding we each need from the other humans with whom we’re in contact. We can share our own realities, and not just stop in to catch the happy hour and hold back on the important stuff. We’re Obama people – we can’t fake it.
I have no idea what I just wrote, because I just devoured a couple chocolates and it is time for my goddess siesta! Bottom line: We get it. Bring it here any time you feel the need.

Don, as an old white women, I so appreciate these rants of truth. I “know” this is happening but I don’t really know how it feels personally. This is why I love our TOD family. This is a place for truth.
Don, when i was a teenager in the 60s the riots in the US were happening. I thought the ‘whites and the blacks’ were 2 families having a dispute (we heard the details daily on BBC news) until BBC said one day that injuries were in the 100s and i realized it wasn’t just a family thing. I asked my Mom who are the whites and the blacks? There were French descendants in our neighbourhood and one of them passed by during our discussion, my mom pointed to the gentleman and said he is white to which i promptly responded ‘he’s not white he is Mr Liddie. It was quite an eye opener to discover that for some folks you couldn’t have different kinds/colours of people like different colour leaves on the trees etc. To this day i still cannot understand such hatred of a fellow human being. it is really heart breaking and i sympathise with all those who have to suffer at the hands of those who cannot see the beautiful diversity of all of God’s creations. Just a reminder that despite our differences we are all God’s creations. LOVE stay strong their hatred should not be your problem, unfortunately too often they make it yours.

I think Democrats are going to have to forgive the past racist conduct of Herring and Northam. As for the accusations of sexual assault against Herring, if those can’t be validated, he should stay in office. This is really beginning to look like a coup so that Republicans can take control of Virginia even though they lost the elections.
EXACTLY! The more I learn about the background story, I see right-wing hit job ALL OVER it. Especially regarding Justin Fairfax. The woman accusing him went to college with the wife of the mayor of Richmond. They are very good friends. All of them are big Northam supporters/donors. The mayor of Richmond has plans to run for governor in the next election. His wife “seems” to be the one who gave the info to the right-wing site. Nasty politics. I keep remembering the ACORN story, then the Shirley Sherrod story. All major career/life destroying hit jobs. True, that’s not the case, probably, with Northam and the AG. As much as I hate the constant hypocrisy of the GOP, I think way too many times, in an effort to go the other way, the Dems sometimes “eat their own”. Act first, destroy, then ask questions later. Al Franken comes to mind. That was also a right-wing hit job as we learned later. Just my two cents………..

If you all didn’t see my comment earlier (#86 now), go read it. Also, talked to my daughter few minutes ago. She lives in VA snd is reading a lot of comments on various sites of message boards. Also hearing local news. She’s learned where Northam grew up and went to school—-mostly an all black school/community on the eastern shore. She also pointed out that this all started immediately after the abortion bill discussion. Her gut is telling her it’s a right wing hit job. I am leaning more that way, even more after learning who is next in line to be governor — a Republican!!! Daughter also pointed out that many of the POC in VA are saying “I’m done with the Democrats.” She said, “They’ve not only divided even more Ds and Rs. They’ve now divided the Ds! The Rs dream.”
A lesson for white America. Learn it. Study it. Do not repeat this again
