I have been unable to sleep because I am following to the fate of this young lady, Rahaf Mohammed with Twitter account @rahaf84427714. She is in Thailand in an airport. She claims that she is being forced to return to Kuwait and then Saudi Arabia against her will. She has been reaching out to any country to give her asylum. I don’t know all the details and facts. Here is one of her tweets :. https://mobile.twitter.com/rahaf84427714/status/1082097331279970304

Why does he needs two weeks, what could possible change in his orbit in two weeks? I had the same passion for Hillary becoming President as I did for Barack becoming passion. I always thought that Hillary would have a made a great President, I like Joe, his decency is unmatched and so is his command of foreign affairs. If Joe were our nominee I would vote for him enthusiastically.

Just signing on briefly so I’m late to this particular party. However, I find this party interesting as it is the very topic I had on my mind in the early hours of the morning when I should have been sleeping. So, I’ll share some of *my* thoughts (that I’d previously decided to keep to myself). I like Joe Biden well enough and truly appreciate his decency and his command of foreign policy. I also appreciate the fact that he isn’t, and doesn’t pretend to be perfect – he makes gaffes. In my opinion he *is* one of the good guys.

The question I keep asking myself whenever there’s speculation about a future candidacy is, why does Joe want to run again? Given the fact that Barack respected and trusted him to be an active presidential partner – as apparently no other president had previously done – I don’t get why he’s still pushing to get the title of “president”. He functioned successfully as VP; he wasn’t made to feel ‘left out’; he was an active participant in leading the USA; he was providing real input; he got control of certain areas; etc. etc. ya-di-ya. Given all this and more, what more does he crave except the title? Honestly, I don’t think Joe should mount a platform, but should instead share his knowledge and experience with another candidate. He certainly has invaluable experience, but I find it almost like a slap in the face to PBO for Joe to be contemplating a run in the next election. Other than the title itself I don’t see what he lacks in what has been to date a full, productive and caring career. One of PBO tenets is that political leaders ought to know when to pass on the baton – IMHO, it’s time Joe considers that option. To me it isn’t a question of age so much as it is a question of sensing when you can propel the team to greater victory by allowing other ideas/persons to step into leadership. Given the spurt of political(?) talent that is surfacing, and the wisdom, maturity and insight some are revealing, this seems a good time to welcome and nurture that talent. My grandmother used to say ‘Every captain runs/steers his ship differently’, with the added implication that the ships made it to shore. I think we do ourselves a collective disservice when leaders hang on too long… because they think they are the only ones with answers?
[…gotta go visiting….will check back for comments …oops… disagreements later]

I agree with this. I really wanted Joe to run for President in 2016. Now, I really think it’s time for someone else. I, believe, that there’s still lot of people that haven’t got over how he treated Anita Hill, and that he never apologized. I, of course, will vote for however the nominee is. Please pray to God it’s not Bernie.

The best of the season to you, Terri, and wishes for a terrific 2019! 🙂

TY for responding. Re Joe, I will only add that I’m personally holding nothing against him for any past action/inaction. I just feel that political leaders, after giving *their* best, ought to know when to step aside, and that Joe seems to lack the perception to know when to step back.

Y’all know I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Joe Biden. Yes, I would vote for him in a heartbeat, BUT, I do have concerns about two things: Old and white. However, the positive of ‘old’ is his experience. I’m just so torn when it comes to him running. Does anyone else here see what I’m saying?

            • 50 desertflower
              January 7, 2019 at 10:32 am

Understand your point, but for the same reasons we needed Pelosi as Speaker, we need a Biden as President. Experience matters

            • 53 Don
              January 7, 2019 at 11:35 am

I understand your point, but I’m not ready to push aside old white people LOL. Experience means something, in my world Harris and Booker would be my President and VP, but that might not be practical for whatever reason. Now, do I think that the both of them have the ability to do the job, yes I do. But does Joe Biden have the experience that both Harris and Booker don’t have, yes he does. I’d vote for a Biden/Beto ticket, and a Harris/Biden ticket, or a Harris/Beto ticket. Yes, Biden is both old and white, but President Obama picked him over every other candidate available.

              • January 7, 2019 at 12:08 pm

Yep, agree with your points, but they point to my back and forth and such mixed feelings and questions. Beto as VP would be another white man. Yes, young, but still white male. One fear I have with Joe running is media and R’s focusing on the Anita Hill hearings, bankruptcy bill and his comments during those debates and any thing else they will dredge up and rehash over and over and over.

Case in point: Just saw a tweet: In 2008 campaign, ABC, NBC and CBS nighly newscasts devoted 220 minutes to POLICY coverage of candidates. In 2016, those same three networks devoted 32 minutes to policy!! 32 minutes!!!! All they see is the “horse race” and I predict it will be even worse in 2020. If Biden is the candidate, they will dig up EVERYTHING, every tiny tidbit and those will be run over and over and over and over. Most of these other possibilities do not have the amount and or type of background–actions/votes, comments, etc. that Biden has and, of course, that goes back the negative part — his age and his time in government (experience). UGH! Such a mix of positive and negative…….:( 😦 😦 😦

                  January 7, 2019 at 12:44 pm

I think that the biggest thing that the Democrats have going for them in 2020 is that every Republican candidate will be tied to trump in some form or fashion, whether by voting for his abhorrent polices or standing by silently when he said something racist. Any candidate that we choose has to be able to appeal to every demographic, but we aren’t going to take the White House unless that candidate can overwhelmingly get the black female and white female vote. In the last Presidential election 53% of white women voted for trump or the Republican ticket. What was is abut trump that he could get 53% of the white female vote? Even with trump getting 53% of the white female vote I’m still hopeful because of the single fact that President Obama was able to get elected when he ran. But we have to figure out what was it about President Obama that got him elected and somehow find that formula again. Which candidate is going to motivate that young brother in college, which candidate is going to motive that older white guy that works construction or the soccer mom or the older black female that’s heavily involved in her church? Can Joe motive all those people, or can Harris or Beto?

Yes I love Biden…but I want some young blood. President Obama had “the young” blood and choose an experienced Biden for his VP.
I see Biden being a great Secretary of State. His strength is foreign Policy.
I love Kamala Harris. She is a tough smart cookie that won’t take any crap and the repugs fear her. She knows the law/constitution. Her spine is strong.
It is still early… my dream team, Pres. Kamala Harris VP Eric Holder.
Cory Booker, one of my friends said Booker was a mile long but an inch deep…and I agree with that. Kampala is a mile long and 4 miles deep. I told my husband that we need a female president, NOW. Kamala is the best out there. That she is a POC, well that is icing on the cake! The Pussy Grabber will be eaten by Kamala!

              • January 7, 2019 at 4:36 pm

Y’all have likely seen my previous comments about Biden. carla4obama, LOVE the idea of Joe B. as SoS. Perfect answer to have him heavily involved in getting us back on track with our foreign policy. LOVE IT!!!!!!!! Harris and ???? as VP probably my favorite pick. The ????’s would cover a number of people. Holder, Beto, S. Brown and others who have been mentioned. Though hoping Beto will run for Coryn’s seat and S. Abrams will run for Senate in GA.

I keep thinking either Joe Biden for Prez for integrity and experience plus adding either Beto, Kamala or Elizabeth W for VP adding the charisma factor. Then in 4 years run the VP for Prez and choose one of the other aforementioned for VP. I would think Joe’s age works against him, but it could also be used against Trump.

Not getting paid is one thing, but some of us that are also not getting paid can’t afford not to care. Because I can assure you what I and my coworkers do for a living people can get killed very easily if we didn’t care. I would rather that TSA just go home or call in sick, none of us are getting paid, but that doesn’t mean you just stop giving a fuck about your fellow citizen’s safety.

i made a list of the ages of the top candidates who may be running on the Dem ticket for President..

    Biden-76
    Booker-49
    Castro-44
    Harris-54
    Holder-66
    O’Rourke-46
    Sanders-77
    Warren-69

If Stacey Abrams (45) was running…she would be my first choice…

howver i am up for Stacey Abrams or Andrew Gillum (39) to be tagged for VP…

I am leaning towards supporting Kamala Harris…but would she pick Abrams for VP.
my next choice is Biden and i think that he would pic a Stacey Abrams for VP……

I thought of O’Rourke… and Holder…jury still out..

That is an impressive group, minus Sanders, of Democrats for President. Republicans have nothing even close to this. I wasn’t leaning towards Biden, but now believe a seasoned person will be needed to follow the idiot. Biden choses one of the younger energetic, motivated, untainted for VP and maybe, just maybe this country can get back on the track that President Obama left us on.

No one should be watching and the networks shouldn’t be airing it either. They refused to air President Obama’s immigration law speech in 2011 because it was deemed to be political. I don’t understand why they are treating Trump’s wall speech differently by airing it tonight.

I recall those refusals. The television networks should be so ashamed of themselves. Along with cable news, they covered Trump’s ascent to the White House every single minute of every day – all the while ignoring President Obama’s many accomplishments. It angers me particularly because every single network and cable executive knows that Trump does nothing but lie. And here they are – giving him all the publicity he wants and then some.
