Sending Christmas love to our forever First Family.
At the first bell of PBO’s voice and photons of his face this one’s smile gets started…then laughter, sometimes tears. Just the way it is.
-To our intrepid NW and all here, thank you and best wishes for good health in 2019.

the announced retirement of DoD Sec Gen Mathis is just another tantrum the traitor-in-chief is using to get more media attention and away from his criminal activity.

it is also to make sure that the rest of the US and World have as miserable and tension-filled a holiday season as he is destined to have

Hello TOD Fam! My dearest brother, my bestie, passed suddenly in early hours (my timezone) on Dec 4th. He fought the good fight against dasterly Big C. Had to make that awful 2-day journey across several “ponds” & 4 hr road trip to celebrate his life, support my 97 year old Mum, my lovely SIL, his fab kids (gentlemen), the whole gang. Fam & friends gathered from all over the world. The night before that fateful 3am call, I’d found a great flight to visit over Xmas. That changed to an altogether different journey. One bright spot. I’d been trying for ages to get all my Mum’s grandchildren to visit her at same time. All her grandsons were miraculously there! We all were there. My brother had a knack for gathering us, & he did so again in death. I still can’t believe he’s gone. Almost texted him this evening.

We did have great laughs during & before the service. I had the 5000 or so folks laughing at the service. That was my bro, wicked sense of humor. My son was such a comfort, making sure I didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction! Traditional Suka (sort of like a Sari, but slippery material) can challenge the angels. I somehow felt my bro was cracking up laughing at my Suka non-malfunction struggle. Son flew from CA, longer trip than I. We flew back together, but split in Amsterdam, he to westcoast, me eastcoast. My other nephew did that return leg to AMT, & went on to his home in UK. Yup, the AMT airport folks loved us. We were so sleep deprived, made us great coffee & fresh squeezed OJ w/ something carib gold rum in it. I hugged my onboard pillow & heard no crying babies all the way to Motown (Detroit). Yup! 😂☕😎

    Cheers, Y’all! ❤

I’m so sorry for your loss, Gazelle. Sounds like the life celebration was wonderful and commemorated your dear brother in a way that served your whole family beautifully and brought you all closer. That’s a triumph of love. May his memory always wrap you in love and leave you with a smile. Peace and blessings to you all.

Dudette, discombobulated as I was, it was proof of his amazing love of all. At one time, my nephew, his oldest son, motioned me to their room. Here I was crammed in w/ the younguns. We fell out laughing cos I said: one auntie & 6 cousins (a take from 4 weddings & a funeral), next day we had: 1 Auntie & 20 cousins. The sequel! By the last night, younguns (couldn’t count them all) had a chair for me, in their midst. (One niece nicknamed me “Auntie Ninja” cos I was able to escape now & then from the adults). For some reason those “sequels” brought out that wicked sense of humor in all of us. And we sorely needed a laugh!

Dear J’OB, I simply howled when that 3am call came. Then went into auto pilot, get cracking mode. Don’t think, just do. It was unexpected, maybe thought he’d pass months from then? But see my response above to Dudette.

We tend to get thru toughie w/ humor. The other funny is that most of my nieces & nephews who travelled there, all live in the diaspora. So all of us have different accents & fluency in various languages. It was a freaking UN in that bedroom & the verandahs where we ended up when the 1 auntie & youngun cousins couldn’t fit. My son had so much fun meeting all his cousins. Sometimes he’d come to me & ask, “Ma, who’s this person, uncle, auntie, cousin?” I’d laugh & say, “Hon, there are 5000+ people. If they’re older they’re aunties/uncle’s. If same age, they’re your cousins. If younger, you’re their uncle”! We’ll get to the tree, branches & twigs later! Tah-dah! 😂

Thanks so much, SJT! It was a toughie. I was so grateful to have my son, who totally knew the closeness & love between my brother & I. And he had a fab relationship w/ his uncle. So without words we understood each other’s discombobulated state, & held each other upright. Which also helped us support my Mum, his beloved grandmother. ❤

For far too many, the school lunch is the only meal they get. I once worked for a program that extended the lunch program over the summer at community centers. We were told to give food to the children only, but we ignored it and fed the adults as well who were obviously in need themselves. Adults in distress often go without food to make sure the kids eat. The lack of food security is a huge problem in this country.

PRESIDENT OBAMA last night announced that OFA will merge into the National Democratic Redistricting Committee:
“People want commonsense gun-safety laws; Congress ignores it. People want compressive immigration reform; Congress ignores it…The single most important thing that could be done at the grassroots level over the next few years is to make sure the rules of the road are fair.
If we do that, I think we’ll do the right thing.”

Elections aren’t won in the boardroom, or even at the voting booth. Elections are won in the streets, and gerrymandering prevents a truly representative government. OFA now folds into the National Democratic Redistricting Committee which will fight gerrymandering and to a lesser extent it will vet candidates. No longer will candidates be able to come to the table with half-ass ideas about moving the country forward. No longer will candidates be able to talk as Democrats, and in the same breath insult the very party that they wish to lead. The NDRC makes perfect sense.

  79. December 21, 2018 at 1:09 pm

“If you’ve only ben listening to cable news tonight or reading your news alerts or social media, you might have the impression – given this tumultuous news day – that the country is coming apart at the seams. But please pause and take a deep breath. The government, especially the Trump Presidency, is in chaos and dysfunction, but the country is not.
That is not to minimize the grave danger of the moment, but we must also realize that we are an expansive, diverse, and resilient country of active and impassioned citizens and deep resources, material and otherwise. We are a people of great resolve who possess the ability to adjust and survive, We have proven it time and again.
So…steady. Please, steady. There is plenty to worry about, plenty to resolve to not normalize, plenty of fight for our rights and justice. But I have seen many dark days before and I believe we’ll make our way through the current crises, eventually, to not just survive but to thrive.
The arc of history is long, complicated and beyond any of our ability to fully comprehend. But life has taught me things are seldom as bad or good as they appear at any given moment of time. Courage. (Mr. Dan Rather)

And apparently the “front pages” of newspapers from many other countries are showing headlines commenting about and questioning the Mattis resignation.

    • December 21, 2018 at 3:05 pm

Dicktraitor moves to openly support Putin foreign policy…phase two underway?
With Mattis’ inevitable lap dog replacement KOCH/Putin/GOP appear set to pull off a master distraction. I think Mattis probably did do his best to stand between us and Putin. But how did his final conversation with Trump really go? Mattis must know his decision to leave enables Trump to do his worst. Trump may be under Ru orders to deny the IC report, pull out of Syria, etc, etc. As for whether what he’s doing will be termed Treason: Why not? imo he qualifies as a traitor for aiding and abetting a foreign power to carry out a Modern-style War.

Didn’t Numb-Nuts grant Monday a “Holiday” because Tuesday is Xmas? What happens for those that left on vacation? Do they have to come back to work on their dime, considering they won’t get paid for a long time? I know many people who vote Rethug and are Fed workers. I don’t feel sorry for them. They voted for this nonsense. When Congress or President feels the pain of a shut down they won’t be so quick to do it. I recall when CA legislators would shut down the government when they did not have a budget by midnight 6/30. All the state employees were furloughed or worked without pay. When Gov Brown imposed that the legislature would not get paid without a budget guess what? We had budgets by 6/30 since Gov Brown.

    • December 21, 2018 at 3:13 pm

Last government shutdown: Approx. 850,000 federal employees were sent home, 6.6 million work days lost.
“The last time the government shutdown in 2013 for 16 days the U.S. economy took a $24 billion hit, according to Standard & Poor’s analysis. This year’s government shutdown could cost the U.S. about $6 billion a week.” (Aljazeera)
