I read the tweet below last night before going to bed and pondered it in my heart. 😉 Apart from accepting the thoughts as being so Michelle-like and being very touched by them, I also love them for another reason. Truth is, I also read into them an affirmation of some of what we’ve often said here in the TOD village – that we would wait for the Obama stories in their own words because given their character, honesty and intelligence no one else could do as good a job writing about *their* time in the bright national light as they could. Michelle seems to be saying here what we felt; ‘I’ll tell my own story, thank you’.

The activism around the midterms and the overall results have given me life. So many heeded Barack’s words about being vigilant rather than fearful and to run for office if they were dissatisfied with the current state of things. Thankful that many courts have been helpful in pushing back against voter suppression of all kinds. So happy that young voters out-performed expectations. Grateful that the in your face racists have been tracked down by social media warriors and exposed to their communities and the world then getting fired and held up to ridicule and censure. I struggled all of 2017 not to hate or to give in to despair; to not live a small life. Now I have great hope and belief that this is a country that can do better; that can get it right. Here in Florida, Scott has learned that it is not as easy to steal an election as it was in 2000. In all of this we now have Michelle’s voice that reminds us that we are enough just as we are. Imagine being a newly elected Democratic member of the House of Representatives and the first thing you pledge to do is vote against the most accomplished and powerful woman in politics, the first woman Speaker of the House, a demonstrated leader and policy maker who has proven time and time and time again that she will always get RESULTS. She’s the most progressive and pragmatic person in the House and yet she’s not progressive enough. UGH, I’m sickened by these attempts.

For those of you thinking that you ore judged McSally…. No, you didn’t. It was a nice speech she gave last night, but I have been here too long and gotten cynical. John Kyl doesn’t want his Senate seat forever. He’s a placeholder… guess who probably REALLY wants that seat? Yeah.
Plus, we’re so down in the swamp now that a common, decent concession speech is now a BFD. It’s gotten pathetic if you ask me. I thought that’s what was SUPPOSED to happen!

When Republicans inevitably begin whining that Democrats are being too aggressive in all this oversight, remember how they be-clowned themselves through the Obama years, trying to gin up one phony scandal after another, including mounting seven, yes, seven separate investigations of Benghazi. We can and should have vigorous debates about what is being uncovered, how to understand it and what should be done about it. But the last thing we should do is waste our time arguing about whether there are too many investigations.
If the Trump administration is a bastion of integrity and public-spiritedness, that’s what the investigations will reveal. And if the president himself has displayed nothing but the highest ethical standards and respect for law throughout his career, that’s what we’ll learn. The sense of dread spreading over the White House and the Republican Party right now isn’t because they think House Democrats will waste everyone’s time with these investigations; it’s because they know there’s so much misbehavior to be uncovered. The public deserves to see and understand all of it, and if that winds up hurting Republicans, they have only themselves to blame.

The activism around the midterms and the overall results have given me life. So many heeded Barack’s words about being vigilant rather than fearful and to run for office if they were dissatisfied with the current state of things. Thankful that many courts have been helpful in pushing back against voter suppression of all kinds. So happy that young voters out-performed expectations. Grateful that the in your face racists have been tracked down by social media warriors and exposed to their communities and the world then getting fired and held up to ridicule and censure. I struggled all of 2017 not to hate or to give in to despair; to not live a small life. Now I have great hope and belief that this is a country that can do better; that can get it right. Here in Florida, Scott has learned that it is not as easy to steal an election as it was in 2000. In all of this we now have Michelle’s voice that reminds us that we are enough just as we are. There is so much work to do to further bend the arc of the universe toward justice, but we have a good start and a fighting chance and I am thankful.

I am sorry, but I have no time at all for the people who think that their main focus should be vote out Speaker Pelosi;
she is the most effective speaker that I know – her record speaks for itself;
she has always been very loyal supporter of President Obama during all the 8 years (and before – remember the Iowa Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and her introduction?);
Can’t people remember how the tea-party candidates brought such arrogance to congress and they ended up cannibalizing themselves, with very weak ineffective leaders, who pushed the extremist policies ..and ultimately the destruction of the party …..
why do people find it so hard to learn from history??
They wouldn’t spend as much $ and time to demonize as they have if she wasn’t supremely effective. They are afraid of her. Same as they were afraid of Secretary Clinton and President Obama.
