President Obama continues to lead and provide guidance about how we should honor and express gratitude to those who have served this nation.

we are so lucky to have him at this time of moral and leadership crisis to a big chunk of the nation and those who they vote for

    Good Evening, TODbots.
There was/is a guy named Andy Kim running for Congress in NJ. I found out 2 days ago that he actually won. He’s part of the💙🌊👏👏
When I saw a tweet from him a while back, I replied with Songs from Andy Kim, a Lebanese Canadian songwriter & Singer. I hope I didn’t offend him. You see, He’s Asian American. I know now. I didn’t want to ever come off as Othering him in any way.

All hands on deck for the Mississippi runoff election. Please let Espy kick CHS’s rear end out of the Senate.

Electoral college system needs to be changed to reflect true representation of all.
Maybe that can go on the ballot next time, for reform.

I never buy audible books because I find this intrusive, boring and frankly, rather creepy. However, I will be adding the audible version of Becoming to go with my hard copy.

      • 52 Dudette
        November 11, 2018 at 9:51 pm

I ordered the hard copy. I’m gonna get the audible too. I like audio books. For fictional ones, if the narrator is good, for me it enhances the read of the hard copy. For nom-fiction ones like this one and PBO’s I like the intimacy of hearing them tell their story in their own voice.

I am an avid audible book consumer. I listen while I clean house, while I drive, while I cook, I am a multi tasker. I love them. They have changed my life. I go through more books than ever. However with the books I love I get both.

      • 58 idon
        November 12, 2018 at 2:22 am

It’s not actually an interview. They talk about the person rather than interview them. It was narrated and produced by Katy Tur. In my opinion it was terrible. Katy included several white triggers including Rev Wright. If you want to understand why 53% of white women voted for Trump, watch it. But if you’ve already figured that out don’t waste your time. I deleted it after watching it for about 15 minutes.

I have to disagree. I thought it was a good exploration of their life on the campaign trail and her influence and help to her husband. They brought up the hate & unfair opposition they experienced throughout the campaign and how she handled it. I thought it was a good compliment to the one on ABC with a slightly different prospective. I enjoyed Michelle night.

I think with this book she has recaptured – publicly – her “previous life.” We might have thought she would have done that almost immediately upon leaving the White House, but I think she used this book to let us know “I’m one of you, again,” even though she never will be anything but a woman superstar to the country and the world! But if she wants to be one of us again – just another woman, just another American (like that time she shopped, incognito, in Target while the Secret Service stood by, and she got away with it) – I’ll go along and pretend that she is, for her sake.

Truth be told, I’m so glad she does not want to go into politics herself. We had eight years of seeing how some people in this country treated her husband, and I do not want him (or us) to see them treat her that way. I pity the fool who’d try it.

Thanks so much for sharing your responses. You ladies have me on tenterhooks awaiting my chance to me moved to tears! As I’m a “far-inner” I usually have to wait until some intrepid TOD reporter posts full interviews like Michelle’s before I get all the scoop – very frustrating (meaning nail-biting).

I notice that the newscasters like to repeat, and repeat, the bit about Michelle not forgiving the WH Idiot, but I didn’t read her comment in the same way. Being that I love words I tend to pay attention to the nuances more often than not, and my current take is that her words tell me she *would* never forgive The Idiot if his actions & words had caused actual violence against her family.

“What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this, I’d never forgive him.”

Anyhoo, I suspect I’ll have to wait until I’m home from work tomorrow to find the full interview here in the TOD village.

A treasure for women and girls the world over, she is willing to share personal stories and be accessible to us, to connect with young people and pass on the baton. I’ve approached people doing things like this, but not this bad, and they look at me like I’m crazy or something and tell me to go “f” myself, and I’m an older white woman. It is one of my biggest peeve’s, no “pet” about it. A full blown peeve!

I was watching Michelle Obama’s interview with Robin Roberts last night and it struck me. Michelle had to carry centuries of black folk on her back when she took her first step into the White House. Just imagine you being the first person in your family to go to college, now multiply that by one billion, the weight of expectation becomes unbearable. What a phenomenal woman.

    • 127 Dudette
      November 12, 2018 at 11:52 am

Indeed. I totally get why she’d want nothing to do with running for office.

    • 128 0388jojothecat
      November 12, 2018 at 11:58 am

I listened to MO’ interview on NPR and again the same political questions about running for office. For the first time I heard how she went to school with Jesse Jackson’s daughter and saw first hand the toll politics did to the kids. MO’s father participated in local Chicago politics and it turned her off of politics. She has been consistent in saying it is not her cup of tea and she would never choose that career path. She said there are other ways to affect change politically and she is doing it with the young people, encouraging them to go to college, young women, and supporting them as candidates.

  68. November 12, 2018 at 11:49 am

I loved listening and watching Michelle Obama’s interview last night. I’m probably alone in this but I actually didn’t care for the way Robin Roberts interviewed her, focusing on controversy and approaching her like she had to defend her authenticity. I just thought she could have asked deeper, more important questions that weren’t about politics but about her as an individual. I think Oprah has a better rapport with her.

    • 130 Don
      November 12, 2018 at 11:59 am

Yep I noticed that also, I remember Tracee Ellis Ross interviewing Michelle and it was as if they were sisters. They seemed to share something that was deep and knowing, and Michelle was flowing.

      • November 12, 2018 at 12:12 pm

YES, EXACTLY!! That was a great interview!! And I really loved Oprah’s exiting the White House interview. Robin seemed more like a Sunday show taking head checking off the boxes from HQ. I like Robin. I just thought she could have been more human.

      Morning Dudette,

This post brought back the wonderous memories of earlier this summer. I was sitting in my backyard resting after some yard work when I noticed a bunch of butterflies, not monarchs, flying through my yard. A few minutes later another bunch of 10 or so flew through. Then another, and another. So I really focused on them and realized there were hundreds of them flying through my yard and the pasture next to my house and the large yard on the other side of my house. And it went on for most of the afternoon!!

Apparently is was the annual migration of a particular species of butterflies, and I had never seen it before. Absolutely magical. I sat there in awe, much as my granddaughter did 2 years ago, the first time I introduced her to bubbles. Thank you for reminding me of the magic of nature.
