Folks, I need to vent and rant. I was able to spend over two hours last night with my best and dearest friend from childhood. My mother helped raise her and she and my mother had a beautiful bond. I asked her to speak at my mom’s funeral service and it was beautiful. She and her husband are retired and have two homes, one in Hartsville, SC and one on “Heaton Creek” where we grew up. It was her family home that they practically rebuilt 15-20 years ago. They were on “The Creek” this weekend and that’s how I got to see her. Near the end of my visit, politics came up. She knows I am a Dem and active here in Knoxville. Here’s what I am still hearing in my head and caused me to sleep a total of 3 hours tops last night!!!!!!! “You know we are “died in the wool” Republicans. We LOVE him and think he’s doing a great job. The economy is doing great.” I knew it was not worth ‘going there’ so I was diplomatic and talked about how things happening in our country are just “not normal…..that our institutions and political norms are under attack. Went on to say that I had told our pastor that this election is not about Dems vs. Republicans. Instead it is about truth and honesty, morality, ethics, integrity, kindness, compassion, hope vs. fear, love vs. hate. It went right over her head as she said, “It really is an important election.” I didn’t respond and said my goodbyes with hugs and “Love you.” No, I was not surprised, but OMG< WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!?!?!?! It's like as long as 'the economy' is fine, they see NOTHING ELSE. I know they watch nothing but Fox so I do get that she doesn't even know 1/1,000000000000000000 of what is really going on every day. What are these people going to say and do when all this crap hits the fan? We all know that it will at some point. The truth WILL eventually come out. Yes, it's not quick enough. Much damage has already been done and more will be done, but in the end, I have to believe, or try to, that truth will prevail and we will survive.
I remember what I told my R husband fairly early in the Iraq War and a period where things were just awful with so many of our people being killed and injured every day, etc. He knew how I felt before we even went in that I was against it, knew it was a war of choice and never believed there was WMDs. I told him one night that I was promising him right then that the truth WILL come out. It may be a few years or many years, but truth will prevail. And,of course, it did.
Okay, rant over. I was looking forward to going to a fund raiser for all our women candidates tonight. MY husband is hiking so it was good timing. However, I am practically sick from lack of sleep and the long and stressful drive I had getting home. It would not be safe for me to be on the road.
you are to be commended for at least talking to your family re: what is happening in the country…all you can do is try…and you kept it from turning into something else….i appreciate your efforts…they are not in vain… ((huggs))
TNmtngirl, I so know how you feel. People I know and love defend Trump. We just don’t talk about it. I will say last night we had a great conversation with my don and daughter in law. They are not political at all and last night when they were here for dinner I asked them again if they were registered to vote. From there we went in all directions. They are registered just have to change address. They asked great questions. They are aware but didn’t know all that was really going on. They said they would pass on what we talked about to their friends. I feel great about this.
I just worry about the good people I know who still only believe in FOX and how evil the Democrats are. For them there is no compromise. I believe there are more of us than them and we will win.

My daughter (28) and my son-in-law (34) are very aware of what’s going on (thanks to me) and can’t wait to vote! They are voting by mail.
