Any teen who has experienced rape or attempted rape knows how it feels to be alone. Blaming oneself for not understanding how it happened. Feeling violated, naive and unable to articulate, tell family. The boy may seem a paragon of virtue to others, your friends, peers. We tend to keep shtum and hope it will fade away. But the woman Kavanaugh tried to rape with his hand over her mouth when she was a teenager still lives with the terror and is still afraid to come forward. Serious damage. What can we do to help her speak up?

The church bombing was the third in Birmingham in 11 days after a federal order came down to integrate Alabama’s school system. The bomb detonated at 10:19 a.m., killing Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson and Addie Mae Collins–all 14 years old–and 11-year-old Denise McNair.
