When I cam home today and heard the voice of Barack Obama on the TV, I thought for one happy moment that the last two years must have been a dream and thank God he was still president.

I want all peoples in US to rise up & vote. Isn’t it interesting that those who’ve had their eyes always open throughout history & are seriously driven, are Black Women, POC. What makes this poignant for me is that these magnificent women, running for office, have no more Effs to give to anyone. Eff! We, all of us, owe a debt of gratitude & vote! Prove once & for all that this country is for all. Inclusive non-divisive.

But Pence is different in that he’s not there for the politics, he’s there for the Armageddon. So those West Wing officials had better tread lightly with their assumptions about who wrote the op-ed about Trump.

    Ok,
Here is the annual notice for Military and Overseas voters
If you know someone in the Military, or who lives Overseas…
    Yes, they can vote.
All they need to do is fill out an FPCA application and send it to the voting jurisdiction where they last lived before shipping out. Find out how they accept applications: whether via email or fax. Do they need the original mailed to them via the post office?
If they have children who have never lived in America, but, are 18, they can vote. They can use the address that the parent does.
Please note- the ballot can be sent to them electronically, but it must be printed out and mailed back via the Post Office.
Military and Overseas voters will begin getting their ballots September 21, 2018. So, they can literally be voting in two weeks.

    True story

My wife and I flew to Houston on a house hunting trip because I was thinking about transferring to a new location for work, my son was about two or three at the time. We check into a hotel, I had forgot and left the stroller in the rental car. So I was mad about having to back out to the parking lot to get it. So I get back to the front desk and the front desk clerk gives me the key to the room and tells me how to get there, he’s talking and I’m like zoning out. I look at the room key and it has the number on it. For some reason I turn the number around and got off on the wrong floor and I tried to use the key in the wrong door. I stood there about two minutes fighting with the doorknob. All of a sudden a guy opens the door, I’m looking at him and he’s looking at me. I look back at my key and I had tried to open the wrong door because I had gotten off on the wrong floor.

    Another True story

When I has a kid we lived in an apartment complex, I was outside playing one day, I was tired and thirsty and I went back to the apartment. For whatever reason I walked to the wrong door and I opened it. It was my neighbor’s door. He and his wife were sitting on the couch watching t.v., to this day I don’t know how I became that confused.

I have no idea what happened with that police officer and the guy she killed, but I do know that it is possible to open up the wrong door.

Don, my mom did the same thing recently in the senior apt building when she first moved there. She wasn’t paying attention and went to the 3rd floor instead of the 2nd. She went to the door that would have been her apt. The lady above her never locks her door. My mom walked inside and immediately knew she was in the wrong apt turned around and walked out.

So Manafort is working on a plea deal ahead of this DC trial, which is set to start in 16 days. He can either plead guilty and avoid the trial or he can become a cooperating witness and then we’ll see what happens. If he cooperates with Mueller, then all hell may break loose. He was in on the amendment to the GOP platform to go easy on Russia, he was at the Trump Tower meeting, he was in on everything having to do with the quid pro quo on sanctions. Jury selection has already started and he has not yet been sentenced in VA, where Mueller is still mulling where to retry him on the remaining deadlocked 10 charges.

Manafort is in a vice and he knows it. This next week should be a ride.

    good day everyone;

it is always funny to hear a bunch of pundits and republicans pretending that PBO’s involvement in the campaigns is NOT good for democrats!!!!

what they are really saying is that they are very scared of him because of the way he can mobilize people and deliver a clear message that anyone of good moral character can understand and want to be associated with.

i will just take my spot behind PBO and FLOTUS as we push for a better society for everyone …. there is simply no time to waste

PBO: It should not be a partisan issue to say that we do not pressure the attorney general or the FBI to use the criminal justice systems as a cudgel to punish our political opponents.
PBO: We don’t threaten the freedom of the press because they say things or publish stories we don’t like.
PBO: What happened to the Republican Party. Its central organizing principle in foreign policy was the fight against communism, and now they’re cozying up to the former head of the KBG, actively blocking legislation that would defend our elections from the Russian attack.
PBO: Demagogues…appeal to racial nationalism that’s barely veiled, if veiled at all.

(Here very paraphrased, didn’t catch everything) …people try to divide us , get people to turn on each other, creates gridlock, then people get cynical, don’t participate, this vacuum is filled by special interests, people get more discouraged – it’s a spiral we’ve been on for a couple of years. Only way to stop cycle is each of us step up and take it upon ourselves to do things differently, we must fight to do things differently, for every child in America to get a decent education, anybody willing work hard should get a decent living wage, women be paid same as men doing same work, notion that our seniors be able to rely on SS and Medicare, retire with dignity and respect, our vets get the benefit they have earned. Fight for notion we are all in this together. America is exceptional…because people around the world, grandparents moved here …were bound not by blood lines or faith, names, or sexual orientation but bound by set of ideas..this notion of ‘by and for the people’. Not a permanent leader, or some more equal than others, or some have more say, or pay a $million to have your voice heard in halls of congress or in WH. Government for everybody. It’s not for sale. That’s what we believe in. And the good news is we’ve got candidates who believe in those values, stepped up, fired up and ready to go.

    Conservative Bret Stephens on MSNBC:
“Because this is not an ordinary transition, this is not an ordinary period, because what Obama is defending isn’t this or that partisan Democratic policy. He’s representing the tradition of republican government that should transcend all politics, and he’s speaking as a president, not as the leader of the Democrats.”
…that is, against authoritarianism in general.

I’m disappointed, but consider that she’s still coming back from a difficult pregnancy and has managed to reach two consecutive Grand Slam finals, which none of the other players have managed to do!

Her serve failed her today, and I think the match could have turned if she hadn’t committed so many double-faults.

That tense incident with the chair umpire will hopefully raise the question of double standards for how men and women are allowed to express emotion and disagreement. The crowd was very fired up on Serena’s behalf, and I felt bad for Naomi that her first win had such a pall over the mood.

That said, I believe Serena really would like to win those 24th and 25th majors (at least), and is tenacious enough to do it as long as she’s healthy.

    • September 8, 2018 at 5:54 pm

One of the memorable aspects of working at the White House is getting to know some of the US Secret Service agents that protect the President of the United States. The job of these men and women on the Presidential Protection Detail is to keep the President and his family safe. You see them in pictures with their game face on. They are professional in every way, ready to put themselves in front of whatever harm may come to the President or a member of his family. But I also knew many of the special agents as people, too, away from the public eye. Colin Johnson, pictured here, was one of those men. I called him the gentle giant. He was a big guy, but one of the nicest, well-mannered people I’ve ever met. Colin also came to my rescue one day on a foreign trip (I’ll not name the country as it was one of our allies). My being hassled by security overseas was always a running joke between President Obama and me. During this one incident in 2010, a foreign security agent working closely alongside the Secret Service physically tried to stop me from getting on the elevator with the President. I did what I usually did—push back; but that only made the foreign agent push me harder. Colin saw this taking place, and with the help of another agent, wrapped his arms around the foreign security agent, lifted him up, and moved him aside so I could get on the elevator. President Obama watched all this with bemusement, and even years later, would recount the story to other agents when Colin was nearby, “Remember that time Colin picked up that guy…” I have pretty much given up posting on Facebook anymore, but I occasionally lurk to see what my friends are up to. This morning, I was punched in the gut seeing an obituary for Myles “Colin” Johnson. Cancer preys on the weak and strong, and I am heartbroken to learn that pancreatic cancer had felled this gentle giant. Colin leaves behind a wife and two young sons, ages 3 and 2. Life is not fair sometimes. RIP Colin, I’ll never forget you.

Oh man, I wished I hadn’t read this even though I started out enjoying it. The ending gave me a queasy stomach as just last week I went to a memorial gathering for a 57 year old colleague who passed away from pancreatic cancer. The news of her death was a very huge shock because no one knew she had been ill. In fact, I found out at the gathering that she and her family discovered it late in June and by mid August she was dead. She too leaves children behind, but happily they are at least young adults. ‘Life is not fair sometimes.’
