Because of the climate change they say doesn’t exist. Fuck off, oil barons. Build your own damn sea wall!

-BIG oil and burning fossil fuels is mostly to blame for dangerously out of control climate change. After denying the reality of global warming since the 1970’s (EXXON-Tillerson cover up). But they want us to fund their Sea Wall…
-Trump pulls out of Paris but has permission to build a climate Sea Wall around 2 of his golf courses in Ireland…

Excellent and important read. Share. If you need yet ANOTHER reason to vote…

      From the piece:

There’s one more possibility, and it’s the worst of all for a democracy: Partisan entrenchment on the court could lead to partisan entrenchment in the other branches, as the law professors Jack Balkin and Sanford Levinson have argued, because of the court’s ability to influence the electoral process. Republicans tend to benefit when fewer people vote — and making it harder to vote, and harder for minorities to exercise political power, are already among the Roberts Court’s chief legacies. In his 13 years on the court, Roberts has consistently moved the law toward restricting access to the ballot. He joined majorities that upheld voter-ID laws and eased the way to purging voters from the rolls, each of which has a disproportionate impact on young and minority voters. In redistricting challenges, Roberts voted not to block extreme political gerrymanders, which make it harder for the party that is out of power to win it back, and to dilute the power of minority voters, who tend to favor Democratic candidates. In 2013, he wrote the opinion in the 5-to-4 case Shelby County v. Holder that shredded a key part of the Voting Rights Act. Kavanaugh’s record is shorter but similar. As an appellate judge, he upheld a strict voter-ID law in South Carolina, which the Obama administration found would disenfranchise minority voters more than others.

        August 26, 2018 at 11:40 am

The conservative Roberts majority will no doubt frame future rulings on voting restrictions and gerrymandering as solidly grounded in law and the Constitution. And yet it could become increasingly difficult to believe the court is doing law, not politics, if a conservative majority of Republican appointees issued decision after decision that had the effect of helping Republican candidates win elections.

Let me caution you about that outrage, bridgeriverpass:) I would GLADLY take Cindy McCain over just about anyone else that our RW Kochwhore gov would appoint to finish John McCain’s term. Cindy McCain is at least liberal in her thoughts on saving Obamacare, saving Roe and the rights of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. Anyone else he would appoint, would vote to gut all those things and then some. Trust me. I live here. I have seen Doug Ducey in action for a long time and have had to live with the effects. Trust me. You want her there for 2 years.

      • August 26, 2018 at 12:06 pm

df thanks. But honestly no proof that the pre-requisitely wealthy McCain would Vote the way she has spoken about. Maybe she would but maybe not. (This is the problem with Collins’ hopes and prayers about Kavanaugh.) Why would anyone Ducey appoints be trustworthy? I see your hopeful idea but who knows what’d happen when the big Koch boys are breathing down Cyn’s neck?

Exactly. We need people in office that represent the PEOPLE, whoever they may be. I continue to hope that this dark place we are passing through right now has shined a light on the need for Americans to become, and stay, more civically engaged in their govt. For far too long, too many have taken their responsibility too lightly, and their civic duty to vote too cavalierly. This is our hard lesson.

It is the same reason you had twenty and thirtysomething Bernie Bros thinking they know how to run the Democratic Party better than Barack Obama did. Some in the Democratic Party are so goddamn condescending towards African American voters. Meanwhile Bernie hasn’t passed a piece of legislation in some thirty years in office, I’m sorry, he did get a post office or two named. They think that they can walk into African American communities and start talking about all the free shit we’re going to get if we vote for them. Here’s a news flash, Black people don’t want free shit. What Black people do want is a level playing field. And I’m getting sick and tired of this guy new guy Perez, this guy hasn’t impressed me not one bit. He seems to do whatever Bernie tells him to do.

    Good trouble

The Nuns on the Bus are headed to President Donald Trump’s backyard.

For the sixth time since 2012, a Catholic social justice group is sending a group of religious sisters across the country on a bus tour ― this time to protest against the GOP tax law ahead of the midterm elections. The 27-day, 54-event tour is set to hit 21 states, including a slew of competitive congressional districts. The tour will end with a “Fiesta for the Common Good” outside of the Trump-owned Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The goal of the October tour is to highlight GOP House members’ support for the $1.2 trillion tax cut law, which is unpopular in public opinion polling. Critics have assailed the law for increasing the budget deficit and income inequality. The law remains popular in some Republican-leaning states and with the GOP’s donor class but hasn’t proven to be the midterm winner many GOP operatives hoped.

  19. August 26, 2018 at 12:55 pm

    From the piece

The Trump administration will be put on trial and the full scope of its corruption will be exposed. Congressional hearings will be covered wall-to-wall on cable news, dominating news cycle after news cycle. Trump, more than any president in history, evaluates his success based on how the media covers the day. A barrage of hearings and subpoenas will have a deteriorating effect on Trump and completely stall the White House’s agenda.

I’ve seen Rep. Elijah Cummings in many a hearing, and I’ve often thought that I hope he doesn’t have a heart attack while dealing with everything-trump. He’s so aghast that RWNJs are letting trump get away with everything, I’ve prayed a little for him. Just prayed again. I don’t think he’ll rest until the job is done!

According to MSNBC, “McConnell confirms McCain will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol.”

I don’t think John McCain saw that coming, when he was spending 5 years in a prisoner of war camp way back when. Luckily, none of us can even begin to imagine what he went through. RIP.

McCain did not choose him to speak or maybe he has but knowing that McCain wanted to show a bi-partisan front at his funeral Lindsey was too divisive now that he is fully on Trump’s side. “Allen Weisselberg the Man who Knew Trump’s Financial Secrets Has Agrees to Become a Corroborating Witness.” (New Yorker)
“There are now multiple investigations of the Trump Organization being conducted by the special counsel Robert Mueller, the New York Attorney General, The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, the Manhattan District Attorney, the Southern District of New York, and—quite likely—other jurisdictions. President Trump is unable to stop most of these investigations. With Cohen and, now, Weisselberg providing information, it is becoming increasingly certain that the American people will—sooner or later—have a far fuller understanding of how Donald Trump conducted business. That is unlikely to go well for him.”

It would appear that the Mueller investigation was just the catalyst to get the ball rolling….these other investigations seem equally important and they can not be stopped. Karma will find them all. They have run roughshod over the rule of law and decency for many decades…believing they are more important than the rest of us and payoffs would shield them from the consequences of their nefarious actions. Tick, tock assholes.

GOOD! Dems have a plan if Mueller gets shut down as a result of the orange-turd firing Sessions or Rosenstein. I would image that Mueller has many indictments at the ready to be released. It is too late for the entire investigation to be shut down. I know he is looking at all the ways he can shut it down on a federal level before he pulls the trigger but he CAN”T shut down the state investigations. They have all if not most of the key players who will go to prison that iQ45 can’t pardon.

The ONLY way women can gain equality is to be fully represented in our Federal and State governments. We need to continue to hire women in all phases of government. Rules and laws are being written to limit health, educational choices and wages unlike men. More women are going to college and getting degrees than men. We are ready and prepared to make real change.

I listened to an interview of a parent of one of the kids at the gaming tournament in Jacksonville. Their kid was playing and ran and hid in a bathroom stall. He called and told his folks what was happening and “If anything happens, I love you”. Good for him to run and hide and thank God He made it. But obviously the experience was intensely devastating for all of them and they will be shaken by it for a long time. So, his father was being interviewed and was naturally distraught: We’re leaving right now to go pick him up and bring him home. We’re goping to bring him home” The final question was something like “Anything else you would like the listeners to know?” AND?? “Yes, we’re great supporters of President Trump and he’s going to keep the wrong people out so this doesn’t happen anymore.”

WTF? WTF!!?? ARE YOU INSANE??? Just STUPID or a whole BUTT-LOAD of both??

Not much to say here. They are a cult and they’ve been duly programmed.

Never mind the news that the shooter was confirmed to be white shortly afterward. It probably won’t even register with him if his son tells him that it was a fellow white American guy who pulled the trigger.
