In other huge news, Republican congressman Duncan Hunter and his wife have been indicted by DOJ for allegedly using $250,000 in campaign money for their own personal expenses, including trips to Italy and Hawaii, and dental work.
I’m from San Diego. Hunters district is beyond Ruby Red. The Dem will not win, if Duncan is on the ballot, he will get the votes. If he is in jail and on the ballot…he will still beat the Dem.

This is an excellent short piece on the pulling down FINALLY of the statue known as Silent Sam, erected during the white supremacist campaign of 1890-1915 in which Jim Crow laws were enacted and the Confederacy was whitewashed and then painted over with gold and glitter. Reverend Barber worked hard in support of the ongoing Student led campaigns to get this shameful tribute to treason and slavery removed from its place of honor on UNC Campus, where I went to college back in the 1970’s.
And here’s one more on the subject of a dedicated and determined group of students and community activists who pulled down the statue of “Silent Sam” , a romanticized tribute to the Confederacy, on the campus of my alma mater UNC Chapel Hill last night. It was the night before the first day of classes and the time had come. This essay gives a great history of the movement to get the statue removed from University property, which has been going on for a long time. Too damn long. The Center for the Study of the American South is a wonderful institute of the Unversity, located in a pretty old home on the edge of campus.
