Thank you Yardarm. I want to share with you how your beautiful statement in a thread yesterday ministered to me. I can’t thank you enough for putting into words the thoughts and feelings I have about this stage of my life. Like you, I’m moving toward my twilight years and taking stock of where I’ve been. But my memories always focus on the misteeps, the misgivings, the failures, the wrong turns. Because of your beautiful and inspiring message. I’m starting to think of my journey in a different way, a positive way. I so appreciate your willingness to gift us with your wisdom and intellect. Once again, thank you so much.

Wake up, Maine, and STOP sending her to the Senate. That may be a bit much to ask demographically, but still trying.

I’ve also seen several reminders that it would only take two principled GOP Senators to caucus with the Democrats and put the brakes on McConnell. They can’t even muster that. That’s all everyone needs to know about the GOP, and the Dems should figure out how to run on that reminder.

A.L.E.C. convention attended by Russian pros like Koch brothers, EXXON, Zinke, DeVos, Trumpies pushed for repeal of 17th Amendment:
    So like…
-Gerrymander all the districts so only republicans will be elected to state legislatures/majorities; set it up so only republicans can choose senators; make the Executive branch permanent/virtually permanent so they can’t be unelected. Then get rid of 8-year presidential limit making it impossible for anyone else to win; cut out American voters entirely and have the President elected by House and Senate.
-Put finishing touches on Russian version of elections…lock up the opposition, poison a few here and there…Got it.
    (thus Kavanaugh is 300% No.)

      from the Article….

Make no mistake, if the GOP hold both houses of Congress this Nov, Trump will go full authoritarian, abusing institutions like the I.R.S., trying to jail opponents and journalists on, er, trumped-up charges, and more — and he’ll do it with full support from his party.

This slow drift of the GOP towards ending democracy in lieu of power was in full sight during the Obama Presidency…The media helped them along with bothsiderism….folks will say that not all Republicans feel this way…but not one Republican is calling Trump to task…be it over the calling a black woman a dog…his corrupt cabinet….his crime against humaninity at the border…

WeThePeople….are placing a lot on the upcoming elections in November midterm 2018….i have two fears…one is that folks will not come out in numbers big enought to offset the voter suppression….or two, the GOP refuses to concede the election…

i believe that so many of Americans do not realize the danger we are in..

    • August 19, 2018 at 10:07 am

This is a comment from the site:

Fascinating analysis. “Trump will go full authoritarian” if Republicans maintain control of Congress, and, thus, we voters are at a crossroads for our democratic system. A vote for a Republican is a vote for one-party rule. That said, I’m most interested in Krugman’s question of why. “Is Trumpocracy what Republicans always wanted?” He offers two answers: yes, some (Mitch McConnell springs to mind) want absolute power of Hitlerian proportions over the mass of Americans, many of whom have been demonized for their race (Blacks, Latinos), religion (Muslims) or political leanings (all Democrats). Others have fallen down the slippery slope of complicity. My question is what happens if this dog catches the car? How would one-party rule work without the consent of the governed, particularly when so many Republican ideas are deeply unpopular? Has McConnell and his ilk planned for when the public school system shutters its doors, only rich people get medical treatment, coastal cities are underwater, and corporations squeeze workers to the point where consumer demand collapses (these workers are also the customers)? Is anticipation of mass unrest what’s driving the privatization of the military and penal system? And will we go the way of Turkey under Erdogon, with tens of thousands of teachers, soldiers, and public servants getting fired and/or jailed, while the 30% of Americans who support authoritarian rule standing by? I don’t see the end game for Republicans if they get their way.

Won’t post the actual tweet, ’cause it has a photo of trump looking … ugh.

In a rare display of restraint, @realDonaldTrump limited himself to a mere 11 tweets today: None of them were true, but hey, baby steps … today they was less frequent, tomorrow perhaps more factual or at least fact-adjacent or within the shadow of the penumbra of a fact.

  36. August 19, 2018 at 12:23 pm

SO if gop gets a lock on the Executive Branch + SCOTUS, strengthens Senate majorities, will Trump start locking people up etc?
Yes I don’t think the Trumputin/GOP move towards ‘full Authoritarianism” would be incremental or slow. This week Klyushin – adviser to Putin who maintains he put Trump into the WH – threatened Donald via tweet to end his term if he doesn’t stop the culture of “Faux news” and spreading “Russophobia”. IMO the move to get rid of opponents and jailing dissenters would start quickly. We really, really need to know what Russia has over Trump without further ado.

Sorry, I left to have supper.
I’m no expert, but this is the way I do it.
I click on the picture (to note its dimensions – don’t want it to be too huge).
Then I right click on it and copy “Copy image address’. Next I check the address by pasting it in a tab on my laptop. If this address ends in ‘ .jpg/ .png/ ‘ or one of those [dot] 3 letter code thingy (I can’t remember them all) I post the address in my comment in the village.
Be careful, some of the addresses are extremely long and do not have the appropriate ending so they will not work.

Still laughing at the fact that Manafort must go 18-0 in order not to spend the rest of his life in prison. Even if he beats half of the charges he’s still done for. And after Manafort is found guilty, the sound you hear coming out of Washington D.C. will be the constricting of sphincter muscles.

To Ruth Lopez: Yes be upright and let gravity work for birthing – as you said do NOT lie down like they do in the movies. (Blame feck’n Louis X1V who wanted to watch babies being born so the women had to lie down…Imagine a child bride being made to lie down to give birth.)

      • August 19, 2018 at 9:53 pm

Ruth: Sorry to have got into this – women and babies are fave topic!
“In hospitals of the “developed” world, the vast majority of women give birth in a flat-on-the-back, semi-reclining, or semi-sitting position.
Why do women use these passive positions and not more active positions like upright, kneeling, squatting, all-fours, side-lying, or asymmetric positions, which have historically been favored by many cultures? Recent research just published shows that these “alternative” positions offer increased room in the pelvis. And many women feel their pain is lessened in these positions. This is probably why they were favored by traditional birthing cultures.”
