Yes we do, Judith; including some of us oldies. I was born two months after FDR passed away and Harry Truman became President. I barely remember President Truman, but I actually grew up knowing President Eisenhower. I had just turned 15 one month before JFK was elected President, but like most people in my age-group, I loved JFK. Basically, JFK was the first President I consciously followed based on his policies and his demeanor in office. Consequently I base my knowledge of presidents, based on their policies and demeanor in office, from JFK to Donald Trump. Since JFK’s life was cut short by an assassin, when I had just turned 18, I don’t usually include him when evaluating presidents in my lifetime. So, starting from LBJ to Donald Trump, I strongly believe that, in terms policies and demeanor in office, President Barack Obama has been the best President in my lifetime.

Who is overseeing the jailers of these babies?
What did they guy DO when he saw the baby’s diaper hadn’t been changed for FOUR DAYS? Who did he speak to?
Parents have a right to protect their children and keep them healthy.
      Enough is enough.

  8. July 11, 2018 at 4:49 pm

For crying out loud let the babies out before they die while the jailers look on! And while we do nothing! If they are sick they need personal care. They need their parents to survive the fucking hell they’re living in. The children are innocent with no place to turn. Trump will not save them.
Trump is a very sick man with his own child issues.

The U.S. House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee Wednesday afternoon passed an amendment that would allow adoption agencies that receive taxpayer funds to refuse to allow LGBT people to adopt, by citing their religious objections to same-sex marriage or LGBT people. The legislation is so broad it allows adoption agencies to discriminate against anyone, merely by claiming a religious or morally-based objection.

The Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act is a 2017 bill that was inserted as an amendment into a 2019 funding bill for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, as HRC noted.

The legislation is designed not to protect children in need of homes and families – a large percentage of whom are LGBTQ – but to “protect child welfare service providers’ exercise of religion,” according to the bill’s text.

It would “prohibit governmental entities from discriminating” against a child welfare service provider for exercising its “sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions.”

This smells unconstitutional even for the right wing SCOTUS currently on the bench. I’d like to see how they bend themselves into a prezel to say this is constitutional. What if the LGBT couple are religious too? How can you deny a religious LGBT couple the ability to adopt?

      • 23 desertflower
        July 11, 2018 at 5:28 pm

It smells every which way. Honestly, it’s all so ridiculous to me…in a sad way. “sincerely held religious beliefs” that allow you to discriminate against those that you take issue with. WTAF. Those aren’t sincerely held beliefs. They’re a license to suppress and violate another.

  10. July 11, 2018 at 5:09 pm

Dicktraitor and McConnell are breaking ALL conceivable rules. So we will not rescue children held captive for months here on U.S. soil and save their lives by being good little rule-following boys and girls. How many times have U.S. forces rescued children internationally? Does anybody really care to save these young lives? No excuses. Cut loose our fucking peacekeepers, whatever it takes…get the children out.

‘Shaffer said he came up with the idea the first time he saw Biden in a pair of aviator shades. “I wondered what was going on in his head. What if he was narrating a thriller, starring himself and the president?” he said. “When the Obama/Biden bromance memes went around the internet last year, I dusted off the idea and started writing Hope Never Dies.”
It wasn’t hard, according to Shaffer, to turn the White House double act into a detective duo. “It was fairly easy to imagine Obama and Biden as a pair of amateur sleuths in the mode of the Baker Street detective duo.’

Aloha TNmtngirl, hope you’re well. The volcano continues to erupt, and there is no knowing how long it will continue. I guess, technically, it’s been erupting since 1984, but this current flow is tearing through a populated area, not just forest. My life is on a quiet part of the island, a hundred miles from the eruption. We’re on the flank of a different volcano, which has been quiet for 60,000 years. But of course the whole island chain is a series of volcanos in various stages of activity.

Some incredibly talented photographers have congregated here to capture the awesome sights. One of my favorites is Andrew Hara. This link takes you to a photos album of the shots he’s taken over the past 2 months. Jaw dropping. http://www.andrewhara.com/2018eruptionrelief

    Aloha TOD ohana

On the Big Island, we’re still experiencing an astounding eruption of lava, with flows entering the ocean in a 2 mile wide band. Over 700 homes have been consumed. Today, a beloved swim spot was covered, lost forever. All perfectly natural, and even predictable– the areas being inundated have been overtaken by lava flows in the past. Still, there is a sense of shock and loss, especially, of course, for those who lost their homes, neighborhoods, daily life.

The video here was taken a few days ago, by USGS. Only authorized people are allowed within filming range, as all the surrounding area is extremely dangerous. Tours are available, in helicopters or on boats, and the photos coming from them are gorgeous, horrifying, mesmerizing. This film puts the volume of lava in perspective.

Trump sounds sour note at NATO summit, lack of eggs upsets Kelly

Rachel Maddow reports on a White House explanation that Chief of Staff John Kelly’s apparent displeasure while Donald Trump was fustigating the bedrock of Western international security was actually because of his unhappiness with the breakfast menu.

    • 97 Beaglemom
      July 12, 2018 at 2:23 pm

Sarah Sanders’ “explanation” for Kelly’s discomfort is ridiculous. As a former US military bigwig, he’s been in Brussels for NATO matters many times in the past and he knows that a Belgian breakfast is not bacon and eggs and two pieces of white bread toast. It’s bread, cheese, ham or salami of some kind on the side and perhaps some light pastries. Kelly was obviously embarrassed by the rude behavior of his boss. I don’t think Kelly is any better than Trump but he was very aware of how Trump’s craziness was affecting the others at the table. He should have been embarrassed because all Americans who have any sense of history or international affairs were mightily distressed by his boss’s behavior. I sure was.

WATCH: Republican try to stop Elijah Cummings from listing guilty Trump officials at Strzok hearing

    12 JUL 2018 AT 11:12 ET

Republican lawmakers unsuccessfully tried to stop Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) from listing the guilty pleas by Trump campaign officials obtained by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Cummings called out GOP lawmakers for promising not to interfere with the Mueller investigation, but he said they had recently changed course.

“Now they’re doing the opposite. behind closed doors, they’re asking individuals involved in the Russia investigation hundreds of questions about confidential human sources, FISA applications and potential witnesses in the special counsel’s criminal probe,” Cummings said. “In public, they’re holding emergency hearings, issuing unilateral subpoenas and threatening contempt and impeachment. They even demanded that the top Justice Department law enforcement officer in charge of this investigation said, and I quote, ‘Finish it the hell up.’”

“So what has changed?” Cummings continued. “What has changed?”
