Yes they are. One of Obama’s alumni is running in my district in Baltimore “Nate for State” Nate Loewentheil.

Here’s more about him & the work he did for President Obama: Nate grew up in southwest Baltimore, where he learned the value of community building from his parents and neighbors. As a political organizer and nonprofit leader, Nate has fought to reduce gun violence, invest in public transportation, and provide opportunity for young people. For the past four years, Nate had the privilege of fighting for Baltimore at the White House, where President Obama appointed him to lead the White House Task Force for Baltimore. Now, Nate wants to continue fighting for Baltimore in Annapolis as your state representative.

The other is running for governor of MD: Krish Vignarajah more about her here: https://krishformaryland.com/ We vote June 26th- I’m very excited because my son will be voting for the first time 🙂 .

I hate watching Brian Williams on MSNBC. All they’re doing is bashing Democrats because they think talking against Trump in CA is why Republicans are voting for Republicans in Republican districts!! We probably didn’t really have a chance in some of these places.

They suck. That’s why i don’t feel sorry for the media and so called “journalist” when Trump disrespects them or mocks them. I remember vividly how most of these media personalities disrespected President Obama constantly when he was in the WH. I don’t trust them because their job has always been to help republicans even when they are violating laws. Look at them now asking while the sports players are disrespecting the office of the presidency by not showing up to the WH? How about demanding that Trump be president for once, and respects the office he’s been elected to by his cultist followers. The media make me sick by the way they’ve allowed the racist in chief to get away with a lot of awful things that they would not have allowed in any circumstances under President Obama.

Aloha TOD ohana! Just checking in with the news from Hawaii’s Big Island.

The eruption of Kilauea continues, and more farms and neighborhoods are being covered every day. A truly lovely part of the island, Kapoho, was buried in lava today. It was a favorite place for many residents and visitors, and it’s sad that it is gone forever. Displaced families are in shelters, but realizing they’re not going home. The county is beginning to address that issue, but slowly. Meanwhile, folks who have extra rooms are taking in distant relatives, friends of friends, and others in need.

Here’s a view of Kapoho today.

Here is our mayor Harry Kim, addressing the community tonight.

I’m fine, far from the dangerous area, and grateful for our trade winds, carrying any volcanic smoke and dust out to sea.

    • June 6, 2018 at 8:04 am

Thanks so much for checking in, susanne. You have been in our thoughts. What a terrifying and sad series of events for the locals. I hope there is all the help there for them as they need to rebuild their lives. Stay safe!!

Thank you Meta. We all know we’re guests of Pele here, and that she is a fiery goddess. Her moods are fascinating, and often beautiful to see. But she also rips through the countryside, flinging new land out to cover houses and roads. From my vantage point, it’s surreal and magnificent, but the folks who live in her district have my respect.

So glad you checked in Susanne. Do believe this will be a long trial. Please keep us informed. Is there any local charity you might recommend for donations?

      • 28 susanne
        June 7, 2018 at 5:13 am

Thank you mtmarilyn. Yes, the eruption could continue like this for months or years. Actually, Kilauea has been continuously erupting since 1983, but mostly inside the park. This current breakout is channeling lava between old flows that took the same path. Clearly, the communities will not be able to return to their homes or land, and will have to create new homes and lives somewhere else. My heart goes out to them.

This link is for a local foundation that collects and distributes aid http://bigislandnow.com/2018/06/06/campaign-launched-to-help-puna-evacuees/. The Salvation Army has also been very active in feeding and supplying families who have lost everything.

Absolutely stunning video. Both amazing and terrifying at the same time. My thoughts go out to those that have lost their homes and property…. but nature is powerful and amazing, to be sure!

        June 7, 2018 at 5:17 am

It’s mesmerizing, watching these lava flows on video each day. They’re beautiful and awesome and scary. Part of me wants to drive over there and see if I can catch a glimpse of this spectacle, but I know the people in the district do not appreciate their burning homes being gawped at. We have seen the lava flow into the ocean some years back, and it was simply gobsmackingly beautiful. Such a force of nature, like no other.

Brittany Kaiser, a director at the firm until earlier this year, also claimed to have channelled cryptocurrency payments and donations to WikiLeaks. This information has been passed to congressional and parliamentary inquiries in the UK and US.

I guess Kim Kardasian-West couldn’t go above the DOJ during the Obama Administration to plead for this woman’s case since PBO called her husband a jackass. I read the DOJ during Obama’s presidency denied her request for clemency 3 times due to the nature of her crime. It was severe and I am glad her sentence was commuted. I just home the state doesn’t put her back in prison like they did the guy whose sentence was commuted by PBO.

Good morning all. Today is the last day of this school year and I start summer vacation. I am so glad the year is over and that I can spend some time this summer taking care of myself. It’s been a challenging year teaching US History and watching the country repeat many of its mistakes especially since so many are being hurt by it. I had a beautiful young woman of color that I teach say to me yesterday that she was so glad for how I taught US History this year and how much she appreciated it. This meant alot to me as I’ve tried to be sensitive to all that so many of you have experienced. I thank so many of you for the experiences you have shared on this board because I have learned from you and have incorporated much of that into my teaching. You’ve made me a better teacher and a better person. I hope you all have a wonderful day today.
