Thank you so much, Nerdy. Oh how I miss the honor and dignity of PBO and FLOTUS.

Can’t retweet Jake Tapper as he blocked me years ago when I got after him for not reporting fairly on PBO. At least here, he’s right to honor the fallen.

He (and Chuck Todd) blocked me years ago for the same reason! (Trouble is, old Jakey, I lost my old twitter account, started up a new one, and am following you now and you don’t even know our “history.” 🙂 ) Truth be told, I think the only reason he’s anti-trump is because trump called him out or something, but I’m good with it. And Jake’s been right quite a few times since being forced to see the light.

Not a day goes by without me longing for the good ole’ days when Barack Obama was president. On Memorial Day, we thank and honor those who bravely fought for our freedom, and Barack Obama’s Memorial Day message does exactly that. I don’t know about y’all, but I wish it was 2012 again.

May 28 marks Memorial Day, and everyone around the country has a lot to thank these soldiers for. So, Barack Obama tweeted an inspiring post about the special day, and it’s truly beautiful. …

I have mixed feelings about this program…..

It is not just so-called every day racism (wonder who coined that phrase) that continues to oppress blk folks but it is the fact that racism is institutionalized….that racism is as American as apple pie…that racism is codified in law and is in the very fiber of everything that is America….that white privilege and white supremacy…is the reason for all the so called anxiety of white folks…..so unless the hosts of this show come from this premise…..then it will all be a sham…

      • 70 Betsy
        May 29, 2018 at 3:51 pm

I completely understand what you say Sheila, but if this townhall even opens one eye to their own “casual racism” it’s worth it and if it comes out, as it should, to identify this institutionalized racism, then it’s even better. Talking about it is necessary.

        • May 29, 2018 at 4:12 pm

young people always want to know….(heck some old folks ask as well) why do we keep fighting the same battles over and over again… this country has a vested interest in maintaining racism, white supremacy and white privilege……but i can see where dialogue is a beginning…I would like to have seen Ta-Nehisi Coates be on this panel to address these issues

      • 72 jacquelineoboomer
        May 29, 2018 at 6:26 pm

Let’s hope some part of the dialogue is meaningful so it’s not a total waste of time … will be interested to hear your thoughts after the program airs, if you intend to watch it and care to express them here. No one show will ever erase racism, of course. What I’ll never understand, and have never understood for the adult part of my 71 years, is why people wake up in the morning and DECIDE to hate other people just because of their race. (I know the anthropological origins of this for humans – afraid of the “other tribe” who looks different and who’s coming over the ridge to steal their fire and food – but it’s the freakin’ 21st century, and we’re mostly all standing upright now. I consider myself a “smart” person, but I don’t get it, and I mean that sincerely.)

“In truth, NSA understood quite a bit about Trump’s connections to Moscow, and by mid-2016 it had increased its efforts to get to the bottom of the mystery regarding the candidate’s Russian ties. In response to urgent FBI requests for more information, NSA rose to the occasion, and by the time that Donald Trump officially accepted the Republican nomination in mid-July 2016, “We knew we had a Russian agent on our hands,” as a senior NSA official put it to me recently.

The official went on: “We had several reports in late 2015 and early 2016, mostly from Second and Third Party”—that being spy-speak for NSA’s foreign friends—“but by the spring of 2016 we had plenty of our own collection.” These reports, based on multiple intercepts, were tightly compartmented, that is, restricted to a small group of counterintelligence officials, given their obvious sensitivity, but they painted an indelible picture of a compromised GOP nominee. “The Kremlin talked about Trump like he was their boy, and their comments weren’t always flattering.” The NSA official stated that those above-top-secret reports left no doubt that the Russians were subverting our democracy in 2016—and that Team Trump was a witting participant in the Kremlin’s criminal conspiracy: “Trump and his kids knew what they were doing, and who they were doing it with,” the official explained.

This information helps explain why James Clapper, our country’s most experienced spy-boss, recently amplified his previous statement that our president was Vladimir Putin’s “asset” by explaining that he has “no doubt” that Russian spies “swung the election to a Trump win.” This weekend, Clapper stated that he was “absolutely” unaware of the FBI’s use of informants to gain information about the Trump campaign in 2016. Tellingly, Clapper said nothing about top-secret-plus intelligence which might have spurred the Bureau to rustle up some informants in this case—and, like any veteran spook with a half-century in the spy business, Clapper isn’t likely to blab about high-grade SIGINT anytime soon, particularly when it implicates the president in espionage and worse.”

Trump’s guilt becomes ever more obvious as each tweet rolls from his tiny finger tips ….

Some are saying that we should just ignore what Rosanne Barr said about Valerie Jarrett in calling her an ape, no, we shouldn’t ignore it. We don’t have the luxury of ignoring it, just like the African Americans that were lynched didn’t have the luxury of ignoring what was said about them by those that lynched them.

A few of the comments on Star’s tweet confirm that people don’t actually know what the term “white privilege” means in the context of race.

They don’t get that the word privilege is not used in the general “enjoying wealth and a spoiled life” sense.

They don’t seem to understand that they, as white people, have built-in advantages to black people on the whole…even when they’re monetarily poor.

They don’t – or don’t WANT to – understand that their white skin means that they don’t have to worry about certain levels of harrassment by the police or discrimination in jobs, or housing, or loans, among many other areas. They don’t have to have money to have a built-in advantage over black people in situations where a decision maker wants to discriminate.
