Congratulatiosn on First, desertflower. Yes, indeed, he is. His kindness and generous spirit saw us through unbearable tragedies and incomprehensible sorrows — he could not change what happened but his presence and example lifted everyone and saw us through. I miss him every single day. Reminders bothered me for a while, but now I seek them out, and find them comforting and reinvigorating. Knowing that he and his family are happy and thriving is a good thing that I can take happiness from every time. Thank you for this lovely and eloquent post, NerdyWonka. What a thoughtful balm on a day of loss and grief. The amazing grace of Dr. King’s presence in this world blesses us to this day. His words and lessons ring truer and stand the test of time.
This is a link to a feature on Blavity this morning. I loved it, with its listing of fifty, count-’em, folks, 50 excellent accomplishments by African Americans over the past fifty years. In no way an exhaustive list, not that there were only fifty, but I cherish the turning of the large number into a list of examples of Dr. King’s presence in the world to this day.
This makes an old man like me cry. We must never forget how that angelic man we know as Pres. Barack Obama came to earth and brought healing and wholeness to a broken world. He is forever an example to us all of goodness and strength in the face of darkness.

Many folks have asked…why do we continue to fight the same battles over and over again….
i think that there is an answer in this article…
twitter.com/esglaude/status/981474435784994816
Negroes have proceeded from a premise that equality means what it says, and they have taken white Americans at their word when they talked of it as an objective. But most whites in America … proceed from a premise that equality is a loose expression for improvement. White America is not even psychologically organized to close the gap–essentially it seeks only to make it less painful and less obvious but in most respects to retain it.
-1 step forward…2 steps back-
Even among some stalwart Democrats we hear demands that more attention should be given to blue collar, white workers and to those economically left behind in rural America or the Rust Belt. This dovetails with the conservative view of the “forgotten” American, who always happens to be white.

This video of Will Smith supporting the young entrepreneurs behind Brown Boys Lemonade will make your entire night. (Hint: It’s 60 seconds of pure #blackboyjoy).
UPDATE: There are now 114 unique #TownHallForOurLives events covering 125 congressional districts. Amazing work by organizers across the country as these numbers grow by the hour.
So far only 24 members of Congress have decided to attend… ⌛️
Why are white cops so afraid of Black men? All of the violence comes from the police, not these unarmed men that they kill like rats in the street. The SPLC sent out warnings years ago about how so many white supremacists were joining law enforcement departments with the express purpose of harming minorities, especially Black and brown men. Black people have no power, wealth, or influence. We run nothing in this country and no matter how smart, gifted, talented or beautiful we are, dealing with race hatred toward us is an everyday reality. I have long held that the major reason that so many white people hate us is because of their guilt and fear. They do not want to face or deal honestly with what their hate has done to us and they fear that if we get in power that we will do to them what they have done to us. Many stockpiled guns when BO was president because they thought that they would finally have to start paying for their sins. So sick of this shit.

There are concrete reasons, beyond how markedly he improved America's image around the world and the financial rescue from the Bush recession that Obama is a top ten president, his party's reticence to stand with him and win elections notwithstanding. https://t.co/o1wupk5c0M

To make this comment without noting the racist backlash towards President Obama…is typical of #BernieSanders…but his comments are meant to sow division among white democrats…because blk folks have always seen #BernieSanders for the fraud that he is.
