Watching Rachel right now. Trump is up to more no good things. Messing up the Census so the GOP will have better representation by Hispanics being afraid to answer the questionnaire with the added are you a citizen. It will also tip off ICE on where to get people. Trump is also planning to take money out of the Military budget for his wall. He already convinced them to do the military parade. Seems these decisions are aimed at stroking his ego. I quiver in fear he will fire Muehler too. I hope horrible things don’t happen the three weeks I am out of the Country.

I’m very disappointed in the coverage of the census issue, and the bone-headed response from the Dems. It’s not just about counting undocumented immigrants. Of course their children need to be counted for school funding, etc. It’s about the chill it puts on naturalized citizens and those with green cards who are (rightly) afraid of being targeted. There is confusion in the Hispanic community that they could lose citizenship. And green card holders have every reason to be afraid of how this information will be used against them.

But if the response is just about giving rights and services to undocumented immigrants, this is a red flag for the GOP. What does it take for the Dems to develop coordinated responses?

Of course, census info is never to be used for nefarious purposes. But that was when the rule of law and norms of decency used to exist. Sigh.

Manafort is counting on a pardon.

      • March 28, 2018 at 11:06 am

yes…i agree..that might save him jail time but he cannot plead the fifth because by accepting the pardon he is admitting guilt…he would still have to answer questions…anddddddddd…could Mueller say that this pardon is an Obstruction of Justice on Trump’s part.

          March 28, 2018 at 12:06 pm

I think these guys are dumb enough to not even understand this. And he’s facing a mountain of legal issues from different states, I would l would think.

We haven’t heard zip on whether Manafort is cooperating, but Mueller doesn’t leak very much. I have heard reports that the Criminal-in-Chief keeps talking to people that are no longer in the administration but are being interviewed by Mueller. It scares me that they go and report back to DT.

You make a point that I don’t see addressed very much: the use of pardon power related to crimes that the POTUS is being investigated for. I think I’ve heard one or two attorney pundits who have said this, but very few. I’d love to see some investigative reporting on the history of this. The pardon power has no restrictions in the Constitution, except that it is reserved for federal crimes. W commuted the sentence of Libby, and that case was all about the Bush administration.

BTW, hearing Bush at Zell Miller’s funeral yesterday – I hadn’t forgotten what an idiot he is, but there it was for all to see.Lots of comments that we wish we had Bush instead of DT. Both shouldn’t be anywhere near the levers of power.

    Paraphrased from Politico:

President Obama is starting to wade into 2018 midterms and fundraising, this time for Claire McCaskill in Beverly Hills on May 6. He’s listed as a special guest hosted by the actress Katie McGrath, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg. This is his first post-presidential fundraising event for an individual candidate — and it goes to the female senator who very notably backed him early over Hillary Clinton in 2008.

    Sling bags!
President Donald Trump’s lawyer, John Dowd, floated the possibility last year with lawyers for former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort that the President might issue pardons for both men, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing three individuals with knowledge of the discussions.

The conversations happened as special counsel Robert Mueller “was building cases against both men,” the Times reported, which raises “questions about whether the lawyer, John Dowd, was offering pardons to influence their decisions about whether to plead guilty and cooperate in the investigation” into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Dowd resigned from the President’s legal team earlier this month. In a statement to the Times, Dowd denied the report. “There were no discussions. Period,” he said, according to the Times. “As far as I know, no discussions.”

Judge allows lawsuit accusing Trump of receiving improper payments from states, foreign governments through D.C. hotel

A federal judge has ruled that the D.C. and Maryland attorneys general have legal standing to sue President Trump for allegedly violating the Constitution’s ban on taking “emoluments” from foreign governments and U.S. states. The ruling marks the first time that a lawsuit of this kind has cleared the initial legal hurdle — a finding that the plaintiffs have legal standing to sue the president in the first place.

The census has nothing to do with citizenship it has to do with who is here legal or illegal. What about people who are here due to Lottery Immigration here with a green card? They are not “citizens”, they are legal residents. What about students that are here on a visa? They are supposed to be counted too.

‘ That was something. The liberals tore into the Republican plaintiff for not having a clear test, but Roberts tore into the Democrats for discriminating against the Republican voters, so his vote may be in play. He seems interested in doing something. Overall, I am more optimistic that it’s not game over when Kennedy retires. ‘

    David J. Shulkin:
Privatizing the V.A. Will Hurt Veterans

It seems that these successes within the department have intensified the ambitions of people who want to put V.A. health care in the hands of the private sector. I believe differences in philosophy deserve robust debate, and solutions should be determined based on the merits of the arguments. The advocates within the administration for privatizing V.A. health services, however, reject this approach. They saw me as an obstacle to privatization who had to be removed. That is because I am convinced that privatization is a political issue aimed at rewarding select people and companies with profits, even if it undermines care for veterans.

Until the past few months, veteran issues were dealt with in a largely bipartisan way. (My 100-0 Senate confirmation was perhaps the best evidence that the V.A. has been the exception to Washington’s political polarization). Unfortunately, the department has become entangled in a brutal power struggle, with some political appointees choosing to promote their agendas instead of what’s best for veterans. These individuals, who seek to privatize veteran health care as an alternative to government-run V.A. care, unfortunately fail to engage in realistic plans regarding who will care for the more than 9 million veterans who rely on the department for life-sustaining care.

    • 114 Don
      March 29, 2018 at 10:33 am

I have two older brothers that rely on the V.A. for all of their medical needs, the V.A. is a godsend in their eyes and also in a lot of veterans’ eyes. In this instance privatization is not the answer, it would be a death sentence for some.

She was on Fox everyday, all over the MSM even though just like Twittler she called them out as “the lamestream media” it was click bate and ratings gold for them. She doped her RWNJ by them sending her money for her “presidential road trip tour” then bailed on them. It sealed her chances of them never believing her and she faded into the sunset with her crazy family. I felt that all that was needed was instead of a “lipstick wearing pig” was a “suit-wearing-millionaire-con man” to gain the WH. That is exactly what we got. $P in a suit.
