Congratulations, CarolMae! Feeling relieved today that Oregon stepped ahead on reducing gun violence and passed our bill. We have more work to do. Next session, we will bring back the Charleston Loophole bill and pass it on the third try. Meanwhile, we are getting ready to defeat two more terrible GOP legislators so our majorities will be even more robust.

A survivor of the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School criticized Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Twitter early Friday, suggesting he is “easy to buy” for accepting donations from the National Rifle Association (NRA). “We should change the names of AR-15s to ‘Marco Rubio’ because they are so easy to buy,” Stoneman Douglas sophomore Sarah Chadwick tweeted Friday.
Wauconda, Illinois:
Traditions say that Wauconda was named for an Indian chief by that name (originally spelled “Wakanda”), who is buried somewhere on the southern bank of Bangs Lake, where the town hall was later built. The word translated from its Indian language means “Spirit Water”.

This was the aim of Carter G. Woodson, a black historian and originator of Negro History Week in 1926. He believed that appreciating a people’s history was a prerequisite to equality. He wrote of the commemoration, “If a race has no history, if it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world.” That is, no amount of legislation can grant you equality if a nation doesn’t value you.
This is the story of black America — underappreciated and perpetually experiencing trickle-down citizenship wherein progress only reaches us if the nation’s cup runneth over.
There is no disputing that tremendous racial progress has occurred over the course of the nation’s history. But we must remember that Black History Month exists to deliver what federal policy has not — the eradication of systemic racism. https://t.co/6frvJrmFog
This line stands out to me in fact it cut me deep…

JUST IN: New criminal information filed against Rick Gates. It includes two counts, conspiracy and making a false statement. Still no hearing scheduled, but this is usually the harbinger of a plea https://t.co/260IrsAOOl
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court made major news on Presidents’ Day when it released a new — and much less biased — map for the state’s congressional elections. https://t.co/ZBhYgnOpHr
Rick Gates has agreed to plead guilty to two counts: one count of conspiracy and one count of false statements in deal with Robert Mueller’s probe, according to a new court filing.
Still looking for a live feed of PBO’s sports conference appearance but some people are tweeting that it will not be livestreamed. He hasn’t appeared yet……..
What could he be talking about? Former president Obama has a total media blackout for his speech at the MIT sports analytics conference this afternoon: https://t.co/nYwvq4lgkb
Hello TODbots.

The School Resource Officer in Parkland who stood outside while a mass shooting took place was suspended and resigned. Why should any Member of Congress who stands inside the Capitol and refuses to protect our kids keep their job?
I don’t blame him. He is a 30yr sheriff officer and close to retirement. He took the cushy job because it was “safe”. A quiet well off community who knew a deranged student would come to school with a AR-15. He was probably armed with a regular sheriff issued 6 shooter. How can you defend yourself let alone students up against an AR-15. When the bank robbers armed with body armor, keffler helmets were shooting it out with the L.A. PD in 2000, the LAPD was out gunned and had to take over AR-15 weapons from a local gun store to defend themselves. ONE officer can patrol a whole school. What if the gunman takes him out first? Some kids will get away but not all. It boogles my mind that the 14/15yr old that was shot 5 times and survived. He will need YEARS of surgery and mental therapy.
The thing is, those kids were UNARMED heroes without the officer’s professional training. They were shot holding doors to either protect others or help them escape.
He’s getting heat because he left those kids to fend for themselves. Might the officer have been able to locate the shooter by the sound of the shots and try to take up a position to at least disable him?
MUELLER PROBE by the numbers: – 19 indictments or pleas – 5 guilty pleas – 4 cooperators Guilty Pleas: – Rick Gates – George Papadopoulos – Ret. Gen. Michael Flynn – Richard “Ricky” Pinedo – Alex van der Zwaan
Only about 15% of Republicans oppose Trump (and Trumpism). It may not be much and I certainly wish it were more, but it’s plenty to significantly impact elections and, if the party stays on its current path, cause a meaningful shift in the American political landscape. https://t.co/HsiLzybAha
Trump's recitation of "The Snake" as an analogy for immigrants is despicable. "You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in" is a much better metaphor for Trump in the White House than it is for the vast majority of new Americans who enrich our nation in so many ways.
Thanks for your continued service, Jon! Your campaign helped Democrats believe we could win again…you gave us a constructive way to channel our energy and money. While you didn't win, you set Dems upon a course that led to many amazing victories later in 2017 and 2018. #GA06https://t.co/QloJWIYJsX
“Trump says Kelly will decide on Kushner clearance”
Speaking on Friday at a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Trump defended his son-in-law, saying that he is doing important work at the White House and not accepting a paycheck.
“He has done an outstanding job,” Trump said. “I think he has been treated unfairly. He is a high-quality person. He works for nothing. Nobody ever reports that. He gets zero. He doesn’t get a salary.”
The president said he trusts that Kelly will make the right decision on whether to revoke Kushner’s clearance or not.
Rod Rosenstein alerted the White House two weeks ago that significant information requiring additional investigation would further delay the security clearance process of Jared Kushner, three people familiar with the discussion tell WaPo. https://t.co/YwQ0g0kdS5

Where are politicians sending their kids to school? Not public schools I bet. Send Cadet Bone Spurs for security duty! He missed his chance to fight for his country …
Gotta say, PBO’s tweet “…we have been waiting for you” to the students almost made me cry.
One comment over at DU … GOP = Government of Putin). LOL
I am a high school teacher, and I refuse to work in an environment where firearms are the norm. I refuse to be bullied into carrying a weapon on my hip. I refuse to accept @realDonaldTrump’s “bonus” pay. And I will walk out with my students on March 14!
New: When the RNC stopped paying Trump's family legal bills, it quietly began paying Trump $37,500 a month in rent, plus $12,000 a month in salary to Vice President Mike Pence’s nephew. https://t.co/BtYa7FC6TM
It has been a blast to wake up and go to the same office as @brhodes every day for the past 10+ (!) years. That’s approx. 900 chicken tenders at the Houlihan’s in the Chicago Loop and all-nighters around the world. I promise this will be a phenomenal read. https://t.co/pi8LD0VUhl
Hey @FLOTUS you say that your mission as First Lady is to stop cyber bullying, well then, don’t you think it would have been smart to have a convo with your step-son @DonaldJTrumpJr before he liked a post about a false conspiracy theory which in turn put a target on my back
This superseding indictment against Paul Manafort shows:
-Mueller knows a lot that we don't know -Manafort faces a significant risk of dying in prison of old age -Any rational person in the position of Manafort would seek a plea deal sooner rather than later. https://t.co/N547g5hZJ7
This x1000. Gates likely has information that could directly implicate the campaign/administration and Trump. After all, he was with the campaign longer than Manafort, including the transition and up to the inauguration. I don't think this is just to pressure Manafort. #280
The grand jury found "probable cause" to SEIZE *at least* FOUR houses from #Manafort (3 in NY, 1 in VA), a life insurance policy (not a good time to lose that!), a brokerage account & a bank account‼️ 4/#MuellerTimepic.twitter.com/4IrPbr0eQH
Of the 32 counts on the indictment, Gates only has to plead guilty to Conspiracy to Defraud and False Statements. Mark this down, folks. Gates is givin' away the store! #TraitorTrumphttps://t.co/dAgok6SDm8
Mueller just singled out a Republican congressman in unsealed Trump-Russia indictment, Putin's favorite traitor, Dana Rohrabacher. I project at least 3 Republican House Members will be indicted. 19 indictments and 5 guilty pleas to date. #TrumpColludedhttps://t.co/2o2GYzpziu
A love letter to kids. Reminding them to be the light we all need right now. Thanks, @Common. And congrats on your second Oscar nod. GLORY started playing when I was standing in line at Starbucks yesterday. I felt proud while I ordered my latte. xo https://t.co/zwANuwCSJU
By this logic, John Hinckley who tried to kill President Reagan would not have ever tried, because Reagan was surrounded by heavily-armed secret service. Madmen with weapons are dangerous and irrational. You of all people should know that. https://t.co/nsRXmn5zja
Any person who has decided to walk into a school and cause a massacre, has already accepted to die on that same day, or at least spend the rest of his life in prison. No amount of armed teachers would scare that person off. #BoycottNRA
Those who subvert the will of the majority make it seem like your voices will never be heard, like your votes don't count, like your values are outside of the norm of American patriotism Don't believe it. Cynicism and intimidation are ways the weak make themselves seem strong.
If article is accurate, it means lawyer for Jared Kushner was not telling the truth when he said nothing unusual about the delay with Kushner's security clearance.
Kushner should be stripped of his temporary security clearance immediately pending completion of the investigation https://t.co/1WpMnKywJ7

We're so thankful that you understand what we're about here, this is not about getting rid of all guns, its about making it harder to obtain them and impossible to obtain those semi-automatic weapons of war in a civilian setting. https://t.co/p3aKcmI3IX

skip gates, one of the most well-known black educators in the world, was arrested for trying to get into his own home so excuse me for having a difficult time imagining what they would do to a black teacher who they thought was about to reach for a gun much less their own keys

So is “Silent-J” getting paid by the Russians and Chinese governments for USA secrets?
Good point. I can’t imagine Kushner, or anyone of his ilk, working for free; especially with all the debt his family/business is in.
I was thinking that too … maybe Kushner might be passing secrets in exchange for huge sums of $ from Chinese investors.
