Real leaders like President Obama & FLOTUS Michelle are not threatened by these young folks- they are, as we all should be- inspired and moved and motivated by them. I believe without the 8 yrs of leadership by POTUS & FLOTUS these young ones have grown up with- they well may not have been quite so brave & forthright as they are now. Leadership under republicans & Trump/Putin is all about suppressing outspoken, critical citizenship… 8 yrs of this & I don’t believe America’s children would be as they are now. My thoughts, only. So an additional thank you President Obama & First Lady Michelle from me.

I’ve said it a million times the average citizen isn’t equipped to carry and effectively use a firearm. I’m trained to use a firearm, I have to qualify once a year to use a firearm as part of my employment. We have to shot targets from various distances, we know when and where the target will appear. And we occasionally still miss the target, and we shot in a stress-free environment. I’m not saying that teachers can’t be trained to use a firearm, but trust me, you have a have a certain mindset to even strap a weapon to your side. And once that weapon is strapped to you, all of your attention use be focused on that weapon and your surroundings. The stress of carrying a weapon can be unbearable at times, and then you want to add the stress of trying to teach a bunch of kids all day. There has to be a better than arming our teachers.

Thanks for this information, Don. You make an excellent point about the burden of carrying a weapon. Your perspective is important to any discussion of arming citizens.

    • February 22, 2018 at 4:28 pm

Not only that, who is going to PAY for teachers to train, own, and maintain a firearm, when they can’t even afford school supplies?

I’m a teacher and I am damned if I am going to carry a gun. No fu*king way. I’ll end up shooting one of my students instead of a gun man. I’d rather take a bullet.

I hope the world media is following all of this and that countries like Scotland and Australia who have successfully dealt with gun control, speak out in every venue. This country should be criticized, preached at and sanctioned for our lawless ways, lack of respect for human life and how one industry controls our federal and state governments.

They’re going to continue to steal elections to prevent themselves from going to prison until we go NATIONWIDE HAND-COUNTED PAPER BALLOTS, and FULL ANALOG ELECTIONS.

It’s why they’re acting with impunity, and as if elections don’t matter.
As long as we’re using machines hooked to the web, they won’t.

I went out for a couple of hours and BAM! Mr. Mueller indicted Paul Manafort and his acolyte Gates a second time!

Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens indicted on felony charge of invasion of privacy after allegation of blackmail using compromising photo

The Republican was taken into custody on charges stemming from a 2015 affair. Greitens has previously said he has no plans to resign, despite calls from numerous Republican and Democratic state lawmakers to do so.

Armed deputy on duty at Fla. school waited outside building during shooting, never went in, sheriff says. The deputy has resigned.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said during a Thursday news conference that the officer waited outside the building for about four minutes without ever going in. Authorities say 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz fatally shot 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Feb. 14.
The sheriff says the deputy responded to the building where the shooting took place, took up a position outside a door and never went in.
When asked what he should have done, Israel said the deputy should have gone in and “addressed the killer, killed the killer.”

I don’t think he was a coward. I thought he was just a human being who, most likely was never in that particular circumstance before, froze. He realized that his gun was no match for the AR-15 and most likely he would be killed.

not his fault. I know he will regret his lack of action for the rest of his life but I understand his natural inclination was to fight or flight. His response was flight. Not so different from a lot of other folks. He was fired, but he is alive

This also makes the case that arming teachers in lieu of common sense gun control as a viable solution is absolute nonsense.

Good evening Nerdy & TOD!! Happy Thursday everyone. 🙂

So it appears that Dylan ROTigan is running for congress in a New York district. Any Democrat who starts their campaign by attacking Obama and/or Hillary are NON-STARTERS in my opinion.

I’ve never liked Dylan Ratigan. He was unhinged as an MSNBC commentator – he would spend more time criticizing President Obama than calling out the GOP. And now his nasty sentiments have been made even clearer in this article, when he reveals the fact that at 45 years old, he has NEVER VOTED, but wants to run for a seat in congress. He claims that Trump & Sanders “made sense” on the 2016 Presidential ballots because Obama and Hillary were “so detached from the American people” and were all about “indulging their ability to run commercial campaigns to support their lifestyles…”

Of course, he’s running in a deep red district so he’s only going to play to his red constituents by attacking Obama more than anything…

Someone is actually focusing on working with states to upgrade their voting machines to protect against hacking!?!?!? GOP (Ryan) can’t have that!!!!

The head of a federal commission who has helped U.S. states protect election systems from possible cyber attacks by Russia or others is being replaced at the behest of Republican House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan and the White House.

Masterson has been a popular figure among state election officials, many of whom have praised his expertise and leadership on cyber security issues and expressed chagrin at his pending departure.
