Hey folks, I’ve been lurking since Friday when we got to our daughter’s. As you know, I can’t comment on my iPad. Finally got my computer open. Have been wanting to share this since Sunday.
As some of you know, since right after the election we have formed a group of (mostly) women in the Knoxville area. We call ourselves the Knox Blue Dots. (Blue dot in a red area) For the past four Sundays, a group has been meeting at a local restaurant to write post cards. We’ve written for Connor Lamb and for a woman who is running in a special election in TN14. We’ve always had around 15 people. This past week, we combined with Moms for Gun Sense to write to our state legislatures about gun safety/reform. Letters will be delivered by some in Mom’s Sense in a couple of weeks. There was lots of advertising getting the word out. 95 people showed up!!! Yes, 95 people!!!!!!!!!!! 139 letters written. Lots of new folks joining Knox Blue Dots and or Mom’s Gun Sense. WOW!
That, on top of these kids in FL leading the way and doing what PO said over and over and over: Be the Change. Even with the heartbreak of the FL shooting, I have more HOPE than I’ve had in a long time. That and, of course, Mueller coming through.

I also added on last thread that I saw on Facebook earlier tonight that a number of students in the Knoxville area (and even the northeast part of the state which is REALLY red and rural which means lots of gun lovers) are making plans to be a part of the March For Life on March 24. The BIG win in KY tonight……these young people………HOPE, that’s what I have. Be the change!

Such great news, TNmtngirl! It’s even happening here in Missoula. I was talking to one of the ranchers last Thursday before all this happened about guns. I said we own guns but there is no reason any civilian needs to have an ar15 or anything like it and he said he totally agreed. No one needs these guns. There is hope even with those who have guns here in MT.
So many glimmers of hope are emerging.

The Malicious Use of Artificial Intelligence report warns that AI is ripe for exploitation by rogue states, criminals and terrorists.
Those designing AI systems need to do more to mitigate possible misuses of their technology, the authors said.
And governments must consider new laws.
The report calls for:
Policy-makers and technical researchers to work together to understand and prepare for the malicious use of AI
A realisation that, while AI has many positive applications, it is a dual-use technology and AI researchers and engineers should be mindful of and proactive about the potential for its misuse
Best practices that can and should be learned from disciplines with a longer history of handling dual use risks, such as computer security
An active expansion of the range of stakeholders engaging with, preventing and mitigating the risks of malicious use of AI
Speaking to the BBC, Shahar Avin, from Cambridge University’s Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, explained that the report concentrated on areas of AI that were available now or likely to be available within five years, rather than looking to the distant future.
