It’s a shame that 70% of white voters, according to exit polling, voted for the ephebophile. They’re are frightened senseless enough of a world in which they are no longer the top of the food chain that they vote for a man of no moral fiber. This should put paid to any idea that we need to reach out to these people. No. We need to reach out to our base, and strengthen it. With African Americans, and Asian Americans, and Latinx, and women, and gays, we are the majority, a glorious, kaleidoscopic majority, one which sees strength in diversity, which sees power in difference. And white allies who are not fearful of a world in which they no longer hold all the cards, but gladly share power and privilege; they’re part of this majority. It’s a majority which has been awakened from a slumber by Trump’s “victory”, and it’s a majority which will not be stopped.

In 1965, civil rights activists almost died in Selma, Alabama, marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge for the right to vote. Last night, voters in Selma and all throughout Alabama exercised the very right those activists fought for.
