That’s the funniest tweet ever. Recently, I think Joe told somebody he loves some of the Barack & Joe memes. So President Obama gave him one for his birthday.

Should I be getting sentimental even over something like that? It’s because I miss them both so much!!!! We had it all.

Wonder if I’ll be lucky again this time. I have a hard time using this tablet.

It made me smile too, Pf. 🙂

Went into a Wal-Mart in your neck of the woods and picked up Joe’s book (’cause I ran out of stuff to read). Saw one copy of Pete’s book there, but couldn’t find it in Barnes and Noble.

DF, it’s Trump’s judicial nominees, like Thomas Farr, one of the main reasons I will never forgive the “holier-than-thou progressives,” who voted for Stein, or Johnson, or Trump, or didn’t care to vote at all because Hillary Clinton was not perfect.

Why is Donald Trump launching a withering attack on nonprofits?
    David Callahan
    …………………………….

According to an analysis by the Joint Committee on Taxation provisions of the House bill – specifically, a doubling of the standard deduction – 31 million taxpayers would no longer be incentivized to make charitable deductions, gutting a tax break that has helped spur giving for 100 years.

Scrapping the estate tax – another feature of the House bill (although not the Senate version) – would lower donations by eliminating a major incentive for the wealthiest Americans to devote large fortunes to philanthropy…

The bill would also impose a 1.4% tax on income generated by university endowments, and penalize nonprofit executive salaries over $1m a year – although it says nothing about exponentially higher levels of corporate compensation.

Now creepy Glenn Thrust of the NYT is suspended for reports he sexually harassed some female journalists (some new to the profession, while he was well known), over time. He’s apparently going into a substance abuse program, too.

This period in time will never fully “end” sexual harassment, we know that, but at least it’s making some progress in getting the word out that it’s not okay.

Almost on a daily basis women and men are stepping out of the shadows and are calling out their abusers, it takes strength and courage to do so.

Totally agree, and I’m glad it’s happening! It’s all cyclical, and when you’re as old as I am, you remember it happens about every 20 years or so! But whenever it happens, it’s progress.

You know what I think would be a phenominal fundraiser for the Obama Foundation?

If Barack recorded a timely and genuine musical response to “Come Back Barack” (AND even included a mini civics lesson)! Can you imagine the sales – and he has the voice and the contacts to do it well! Also, too, I don’t doubt that a musical civics lesson by Barack would have great impact for children.

Hello, Hopef. Nice to ^5 with you once more since we often waltz in at different times these days. (((Hf)))

I bet a song/video by Barack in response would be ‘sold out’ in no time, and yes I’d be one of those participating immediately.
In fact, the more I think of it the more I like the idea. Barack is the ideal person right now to create a brief pertinent civic lesson. He’s been preaching civic for years. I see two major advantages for *us* – 1) We’d get his voice in song and 2) Just imagine how many people would replay it over and over, even kids. You probably already know how much kids learn from music! This is one of those times I really wish I could quietly drop a word in Michelle’s ears. I wouldn’t want to mention this on twitter because it would be far more effective if it happened ‘unexpectedly.’

CIVICS for kids and for the civics-challenged, done with 21stC technology and spearheaded by the Obamas would be bound to be successful because it’s something we all know they feel strongly about.

What a dream! I can already imagine playing my American civìcs lesson nightly. 🙂

There will not be enough ink for those reports coming out.——————-

Eight women say longtime TV host Charlie Rose sexually harassed them — with nudity, groping and lewd calls

The women told The Washington Post that Rose made unwanted sexual advances toward them, including lewd phone calls, walking around naked in their presence, or groping their breasts, buttocks or genital areas.

Rose, 75, whose “Charlie Rose” show airs on PBS, also co-hosts “CBS This Morning” and is a contributing correspondent for “60 Minutes.” The accusers were employees or aspired to work for Rose at the “Charlie Rose” show from the late 1990s to as recently as 2011.
Three of the eight spoke on the record and five spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of Rose’s stature in the industry, his power over their careers or what they described as his volatile temper.

“It has taken 10 years and a fierce moment of cultural reckoning for me to understand these moments for what they were,” Reah Bravo, who worked for Rose’s PBS show beginning in 2007, told The Post. “He was a sexual predator, and I was his victim.”

And there you have a real reason why so many republicans…..oops, I mean MEN …. (of previous generations) are reluctant to fault those who are being accused. It could be them. Given the climate as it’s been towards women for generations, IMO there are very few MEN who will have a clean slate in this area. So what do we do as we move foward?

8 women are now accusing Charlie Rose.
I have always cringed at some of their suggestive jokes on their CBS AM show.

I used to watch The Today Show. Then after they had Palin as a Host Guest for a week in 2012 & the way they treated Ann Curry, I said, Bye!
Then I started watching CBS. Hmm?

CBS has suspended him and he has done the obligatory half-assed apology. The Wapo story was well-researched and there had been rumors floating about Charlie Rose for years. A girl-child is not safe anywhere; most of us carry a wariness, a tension for most of our lives. Every man you meet has to be sized up as a potential threat when we are young women and scarred memories plague us as we age.

This avalanche of sexual harassment allegations feels very much like the hysteria over Hillary Clinton’s emails. I don’t retweet this nonsense because something about it doesn’t feel right. They’re basically going after all the liberal media personalities, while a pedophile and rapist kicks back in the White House.

One of the reasons most men want to become powerful or wealthy is because they feel it entitles them to women; as many as they choose to do with as they will. Until the technological age women had no choices, we were all legally chattel in some way or another in a world staked against us. With women now able to work outside of the home (for less pay) with buying power and credit in our own names (which did not happen until the 70’s) and education (there are more women in college than there are men), we are slowly working our way to equality and part of that is reclaiming our own bodies. We still have so much growing to do because there are women like Charlie Rose’s long-time producer, who did not stand for or protect the young women who came to her in fear and confusion, women like Sarah and Kellyanne, and the savage, brain-washed women of the religious right.

        • November 20, 2017 at 6:43 pm

          Amen.

A close friend of mine used to be the video editor for the Charlie Rose show about 10 years ago. She got me a pass to visit their Bloomberg studio when I was in NYC. It’s a very small operation with CR and his executive producer clearly holding all the power over a very small staff. These women who were his targets were clearly personally and professionally overwhelmed.

What #45 wants is for Black men to debase themselves at his feet as so many white men have done. He was almost creaming in his pants at the idea of having these young men and their families, and he hoped, the community beholden to him. He wanted to have them on a podium behind him to show “the blacks” and the rest of the world that he is magnanimous, a great white father to the hapless Black folk. But too bad for him, the father of one of them is not playing his game. Everyone Black man who kneels or stands in protest, each one who speaks out like Jesse Williams, every artist and athlete who shuns him, and the excellence that is Barack Obama show him everyday that he is nothing, that they are not afraid of him and will not be used or debased by him. He better be satisfied with Ben Carson ’cause the brothers will not play his game. In the vernacular of the neighborhood, “Trump aint shit” and we have always known it. He is sitting around trying to shit on everything Obama did and is losing everyday.

But of course. Think about the comments made about HRC’s speeches.

It wasn’t so much about the content, but often about her tone…the pitch of her voice…whether she paused long enough…whether she spoke too fast or too slow…whether she smiled…inane things like that.

earlier today, I posted the sentiment below on the prior post …. little did I know that more breaking news is around the corner:

It seems to me that allegations of sexual harassment/abuse are going to be publicized for a while. Accused sexual predators will include people we previously liked or admired and others we already despise. We have to brace ourselves for these accusations and be consistent in our responses. I hope that no one makes false accusation because this will undermine the need to thoroughly deal with this very common problem.

    at this moment I can only say that boy, …, the revelations continue;

    by the way, has anyone here had a chance to read the article about the mess going on with the elected officials in Florida – sexual harassment/abuse charges are taking many FL politician into retirement …. it is a huge mess (to put it mildly);

    • 90 arapaho415
      November 20, 2017 at 8:16 pm

      GE GCL.

Haven’t followed FL reports of sexual misconduct (or worse) — too many of these reports are surfacing now, can’t keep track of all the suspended/fired media people/celebs and politicians. 😦

BUT it looks like Virginia has a real mess on their hands, and special elections may have to resolve the issue.

      From the article:
“The battle for control of Virginia’s House of Delegates turned even more messy Monday after the state’s top election official said a significant election problem occurred in the Fredericksburg area that may have affected the outcome of one of a handful of extremely tight House races.

Commissioner of Elections Edgardo Cortés said at least 83 voters were incorrectly assigned to the wrong House district in Fredericksburg, prompting the State Board of Elections to delay certifying election results for two house districts. The board certified results for the statewide races and 98 other House races, but left the 28th and 88th District contests open in light of possible legal action.

Depending on the scope of the error, the issue could potentially trigger special elections as Republicans try to hold onto a slim 51-49 majority after getting hammered Nov. 7 in a wave election that saw Democrats pick up at least 15 House seats. In the 28th District, currently represented by retiring House Speaker William J. Howell, R-Stafford, Republican Bob Thomas leads Democrat Joshua Cole by 82 votes. If that district’s outcome were to flip, the House would have a 50-50 party split.”

      😦
