Dear Judith,

Just a few reasons why the House GOP tax bill is bad for Californians:
1. It double taxes you on your state and local income taxes 2. It reduces the incentive for businesses to hire Veterans 3. It taxes you on student loan interest
That’s how it is for most people who are arrested; not to mention that they typically serve their arrest behind bars, not in the comfort of their homes. Nor are they able to earn an income to support their families while they are incarcerated.
Manafort deputy Gates denied bid for house arrest break over Thanksgiving: “His wife is physically not able to keep up with these transportation demands” https://t.co/zbFA1nraRk
U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson denied the request, filed Wednesday, which complained strict home confinement had caused “great burden on his family and hardship to his wife.”
Wu also requested Gates receive permission to leave home during Thanksgiving and Christmas and meet with clients in the northern Virginia area “in order to continue to earn an income so that he may support his family.”

🇷🇺NEW…imagine that…Mueller’s team can’t drill down Gates’ finances. Well Gates has over inflated the “value” and keeps moving money like a jacked up money on red bull https://t.co/t4FkAzeENT
A total of 210,000 gallons of oil leaked Thursday from the Keystone Pipeline in South Dakota, the pipeline’s operator, TransCanada, said.
Crews shut down the pipeline Thursday morning, and officials are investigating the cause of the leak.
This is the largest Keystone oil spill to date in South Dakota, said Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the state’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Trump family friend, Russian Roman Abramovich, has the contract to supply steel for the new pipeline —given that Trump waived “made in America requirement for him. State regulators’ vote set for Monday.
From the article:
“LINCOLN, Neb. — A decision on the last major regulatory hurdle for TransCanada (TSX:TRP) in its nine-year quest to complete the Keystone XL pipeline will be made next week.
The Nebraska Public Service Commission says in statement that a vote on the application will be held during its meeting on Nov. 20.
Approving the project would allow TransCanada to gain access to holdout landowners’ property using Nebraska’s eminent domain laws.”
Not sure what Molly McKew refers to here, but FYI…
Russian info ops previously supported messaging from Keystone/Dakota Access protests; wonder if they will ramp up again on the oil spill. (and yes, this is, and should be, a big story; pt is this is a narrative Russia uses) https://t.co/4RhQPeFBhT

From WaPo – A director at the DHS resigns after past comments criticizing blacks for ‘laziness, drug use and sexual promiscuity’ came to light
The Rev. Jamie Johnson, the head of the Center for Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships, made the remarks during appearances on conservative radio shows over the last ten years before he was appointed in April by John Kelly, then the head of the Department of Homeland Security.
Acting DHS Secretary Elaine Duke has accepted Johnson’s resignation, acting DHS press secretary Tyler Q. Houlton said in a statement. “His comments made prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security clearly do not reflect the values of DHS and the administration. (2/2) As a guest host on the Iowa radio program "Mickelson in the Morning," Johnson said: "I never call it radical Islam, if anything, it is obedient Islam. It is faithful Islam."
Hello Judith
Sending all best thoughts from the land down under. I’ve been helping a friend this week through similar tests and understand just how stressed one gets regardless of the results and outcomes. Look after yourself and may all the best outcomes be yours.
Why the hell do people making over $1,000,000 need $39 billion in tax cuts? Why don't we take all of that and give it to the middle class? Millionaires have been doing quite well in this country since about 1980- why do they need tax relief? pic.twitter.com/thBUJSvGF7
Adding: Do the middle-class Trumpsters think it’s going to rub off on them or something? Because the beneficiaries of this windfall aren’t going to become ‘job creators’, and definitely not of those mythical coal jobs.
They didn’t want to listen to the black President, who told them they needed to adapt to the jobs of the future.
Nope, they sat and waited for Trump to spew the bullshit they wanted to hear…that those disappearing jobs will just be brought back. Never mind reality.
Like an idiot… I posted this on the last thread… because… IDIOT.
Al Franken…….
I have some problems with everyone having a knee-jerk reaction to this, and the story itself.
The photo was bad & stupid. Kissing her was bad and stupid, and there should have been some discussion during the rehearsal, which is what they’re for. But in the photo you can clearly see air and shadows between his hands and her – if you’re looking at it on your phone, make it bigger, so you can see… (She also contradicts herself with her “Turning her head” “as written” as she claims, since she admits to coming up with the idea of not kissing him and turning her head to get a laugh..so it apparently wasn’t written on the page. Yes, that’s a nit I’m picking, but to me, it seems an important one, perhaps since I’m an actor and know how the process works, and since she claims to being groped without her permission while sleeping – yet he’s clearly not touching her – nor her kevlar vest. Yes, it’s horrid, and I’d be pissed AS FUCK. But I’d be more pissed they thought the photo would be funny at *her expense* – which is the entire problem how women shouldn’t overreact when being the butt of someone’s demoralizing humor – and no it’s not funny – and no we shouldn’t be okay with it. EVER.)
But he has stepped up like no one else thus far who’s been accused, apologized, explained that he gets it, and fully supports an ethics investigation into his own actions, even though it happened before he ran for office, and
This ≠ Roy Moore, Donald Trump, etc, hunting and assaulting CHILDREN, masterbating in front of females, taking a 14 year old girl to his home, taking her top and pants off and actually groping her through her underwear, and hunting young teens at the mall. To give this the same weight is insulting and diminishes the other victims. Yes, I’ve experienced unwanted sexual advances that I didn’t invite, nor ask for. Some were HORRID and I was definitely assaulted, but many, while bad, unwanted, and uncalled for, weren’t anywhere near sexual “assault”, nor would I claim they were. Perhaps it’s me personally… but I don’t think it’s black and white.
It’s an ass-brained attempt to prove “both sides do it” … Al Frankenstein has been very direct and straightforward during the early days of questioning, so they will go after him fast. I’m seeing posts that it’s even badly photoshopped, for what it all worth
No, no, no, that stupid spell check got right past me, no way would I ever call Al Franken that. I’m so sorry, NW, please delete if you like. 😶😐 sad MP
mentions this:
“And Russian fertilizer magnate Dmitry Rybolovlev bought the Florida mansion for a staggering sum of $95 million in 2008—despite Trump having paid just $41 million for the property four years prior.”
And of course, Rybolovlev is in the news today because:
This is an interesting coincidence that Dmitry E Rybolovlev, of #TrumpRussia fame, just laundered the most money in the history of the art world… https://t.co/W1DT9OBvKw
Here’s another excerpt from @LukeHarding1968’s book:
BI's fantastic video team and I will be interviewing @lukeharding1968 on Friday about his new book, "Collusion: Secret Meetings, Dirty Money and How Russia Helped Donald Trump Win." In the meantime, here's an interesting extract: https://t.co/yyluyScQ8W
Steele: investigators examining Trump's Russia ties needed "to look at the contracts for the hotel deals and land deals" that Trump has pursued with Russian nationals. "Check their values against the money Trump secured via loans. The difference is what's important." pic.twitter.com/whALT6AkmP
At this point, no I do not. The question is whether there will be other incidents that come out. As we all know, usually these are not one time behaviors. But I am hoping in this case it was. Based on what she has said, it appears he was angered by her rejection and sought to demean her throughout the remainder of the trip which is horrible. That said, this does not appear to rise to the level we have seen from the GOP or Weinstein. If so, I’m hoping he will be censured by the Senate Ethics Committee, will teach a good lesson to other men about how to handle these types of allegations, and move forward. I agree with Tally that there is difference between this, which I would term harassment, and assault. But both are intended to and demean women. Not what I want for my daughter or granddaughters. And I think it is FAR WORSE that he did this while she was sleeping, whether he actually touched her or not. To do this when she was at her most vulnerable is disgusting. I like Franken but will never think of him the same again.
And I will add, one of the things I always appreciated about PBO was his care in how he touched women, regardless of the circumstances. He always maintained some distance even when hugging women friends and supporters to ensure he did not violate their personal space or put them in an uncomfortable position. It is both smart and respectful.
No. Rachel played the statement of Tweeden regarding the rehearsal of a kiss that was in the skit. Tweeden was offended not assaulted by the gross manner in which Franken put his slobbery lips on her lips and then slipped his tongue into her mouth. Yes it was gross and offensive and she let him know it at the time. But it wasn’t sexual assault or sexual harassment.
Tweeden says she accepts Franken’s apology. I think she didn’t expect a Senate ethics investigation and that Franken would call for it along with every DEM and GOP senator. I doubt she’s going to be willing to give testimony under oath.
No. What he did was stupid, but it wasn’t illegal, and nothing remotely close to hunting and molesting children, or “assaulting” someone. The kiss was scripted. You have a conversation during rehearsal to establish your boundaries. As for the photo – he’s not touching her.
The Right’s attempt to paint this as the same as Moore, Trump, Weinstein, etc…… is ridiculous.
NO! He has, in my opinion, he has sincerely apologized for his stupidity and bad humor in this one incident. There is no evidence that he has a pattern of molesting, harassing and disrespecting women. To try to make this one incident equivalent to the allegations leveled against Roy Moore, or Donald Trump, is blatantly dishonest.
Not after I heard his sincere, heartfelt, detailed apology for his inappropriate behavior. He took full responsibility for what he did, made no excuses and didn’t try to smear his accuser at all. And he’s willing to submit to an investigation by his fellow Senators. Plus, his accuser has stated that she forgives him and understands that he made a mistake. I hope his constituents give him a break. He is in no way comparable to Trump or Moore.
I was trying to post Kelly Clarkson song “Go High”, which she said was based on the comment Michelle Obama said “When they go low, we go high. I like the song.
Judith, Hope you see this. ((((((JUDITH)))))). You will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers. I hate that I cannot post comments on TOD on my iPad. I’ve tried everything possible. Well, no, haven’t tried making an appt. at the Apple store and getting help. Guess I should do that.
Re Al Franken. I agree with Tally. Wanted to cheer as I read her comment. ‘Nough said.
“I am the result of a girl that’s loved, and nurtured, and invested in. This is what you get.” – Michelle Obama, noting that she was not abused by the men in her young life.
Obama says she’s more interested in cultivating capable young leaders now than in running for office. She indicates a short sightedness in thinking political answers come from finding just one “right person.”
Michelle Obama makes a personal appearance in the overflow room and addresses all the screaming, ecstatic young people in the audience. “Go home and do your homework,” she says, and be OK with failure. She urges them to find mentors. “Find that positivity. Stay off social media.”

Morning everyone…Judith, so sorry to hear you have to now be a warrior for yourself and your health….you have been a warrior for all the rest of us for so long. My good, positive thoughts are with you always. You will do this. Hugs to you.
My limited time here lately is because my dear Sadie got very sick last weekend. Thought it was gastrointestinal yuk, but it turned out to be much more serious than that. We made the decision to put her down on Wednesday after her momentous battle. Another brave warrior and beautiful gentle giant. My family was there with her and she was surrounded by love. She even managed a last kiss for me. We were blessed to have her in our lives for those 2 1/2 short years, but she is ok now.
Once I get my bearings again, we have other battles to fight and win…democracy is at stake. Eyes are opening. Together, we will win this battle.
OH, big ((((((((((HUGS, df)))))))))). So very sorry for your loss of your sweet Sadie. The journey of loving our pets, then letting them go, is both rewarding and heartbreaking. Bless you and your family in the coming days.
Thank you so much, TNmtngirl:)….. SO hard. I thought that I was going to be taking her home yesterday, but Wednesday evening she took a bad turn. I was heartbroken. Days will pass and the heartache will subside, but she will always be near. Thank goodness for my kiddos who have a wonderful way of keeping my head in the game and making me smile every day. Work is now my therapy.
oh (((((df))))) I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I know your heartache well, our family having gone through this only recently in May. I wish you all the best, I’m just so very sorry.
df, so sorry for Sadie’s loss. Our pets so enrich our lives! Each fur baby girl we’ve had brought richness and beauty to our lives, as I know your Sadie did.
Ohhhhh df…i am so sorry about Sadie…i know how you loved her and how she came to love you ..i remember the stories you told about her first weeks at your home…the loving struggle that was….wishing you comfort at this time of loss…((huggs))
My sympathies, DF. I said goodbye to my sweet rescue dog 3 weeks ago after 13 years together. He was tough, spirited, funny, and a loyal friend. I hope he and your Sadie are romping it up where there is only light – no sickness or disability.

Just a reminder last year on Thanksgiving that Natives were being tortured with dogs, illegal scare tactics, being run over by angry white ppl all to protect our water and this year on Thanksgiving they are now cleaning up 200,000 gallon oil spill on a South Dakota reservation
1. Tell people you'll bring back jobs 2. Allow pipeline in South Dakota 3. Make money for oil execs 4. Wait for inevitable leak 5. Hire friends to do "clean-up" 6. Give friends exorbitant money for said "clean-up" 7. Laugh 8. Repeat
The focus of the Republican tax reform bill is not to help middle class or working class folk. It is strictly to help the wealthy and mega rich who do not need any more money in their pockets. Trickle down economics is a myth.
I literally give up now. This is the PRESIDENT 😈 OF THE UNITED STATES 🇺🇲! Tweeting about absurdities time and again. Threatening NK, talking war in his next tweet. The man is insane! Still nobody does anything to stop him. Every day he ruins something good Obama did. 🤢😭😤… https://t.co/hqJHkRxyYu

I think what bothers me most about Hatch is his self-righteousness on process when he's held no hearings and wrote an intentionally partisan RECONCILIATION bill behind closed doors. https://t.co/4uHsEIJB0B
The GOP and their faux indignation on supposed attacks on their honor…. give *me* a break!!!!
Pretty remarkable exchange between Brown and Hatch last night. Brown goes off: “This tax cut really is not for the middle class, it’s for the rich… spare us the sarcasm and the satire and let’s move on.” (via ABC) pic.twitter.com/ZQnktHZjNH
I think what bothers me most about Hatch is his self-righteousness on process when he's held no hearings and wrote an intentionally partisan RECONCILIATION bill behind closed doors. https://t.co/4uHsEIJB0B
I was just getting ready to post this, desertflower. And I agree.
This whole writing the bill behind closed doors where even many of *their* the members have no input, then saying the Democrats don’t want to cooperate is so underhanded. I hope that once again, there will be at least 3 or more Repubs with a conscience — or even an agenda if that makes it happen — that will defeat this bill.
Sherrod Brown says Republicans just want to cut taxes for the rich, and Hatch is riled up. Hatch: ““Don’t spew that stuff on me…. This bullcrap that you guys throw out here really gets old after a while.”
Hatch DOES have a “STINKING” career working for the wealthy ONLY! Vote in lock step against the poor, middle class, veterans….I wish Sen. Brown was more forceful and calling Hatch BULLSHIT!
Meanwhile, people making between $10,000 and $75,000/year get a TAX INCREASE. $10,000….is POVERTY WAGES, yet Republicans think these people need an increase in taxes to pay more for wealthy breaks. WTF!
The Hill: The latest version of the Senate Republican tax bill includes a break for companies that manage private jets. https://t.co/WPiFyRbWxa
Dem Senators weigh in on last night’s stealth move by Senate committee:
It's 11:21pm. Most Americans are asleep. But the GOP members of the Senate Finance Committee just rammed through their tax bill on a partisan vote, under cover of darkness. This process is an embarrassment.
Ohio seniors have paid into Medicare their entire lives. That $25 billion is your money. And this tax bill steals it to pay for tax cuts for corporations that send jobs overseas. Shameful. https://t.co/zOrDIO9PWI

Who would benefit from a tax break for *private* aircrafts? Yet the bill eliminates/reduces SALT deductions (among other things).
That’s a whole lot of harassment going on. Glad it’s now being exposed and addressed.
Seems like there are a number of people who should be subjected to an ethics investigation. I wonder how many people are represented in these payouts.

😶😐 sad MP
With you, Tally, on these thoughts.
GE TODville.
“Collusion” was released today, and here’s an excerpt from the book (apparently a long read, haven’t read it yet, but may be of interest here):
Article which references this book:
mentions this:
“And Russian fertilizer magnate Dmitry Rybolovlev bought the Florida mansion for a staggering sum of $95 million in 2008—despite Trump having paid just $41 million for the property four years prior.”
And of course, Rybolovlev is in the news today because:
Here’s another excerpt from @LukeHarding1968’s book:
A little disappointed to read about Franken … but I agree with Tally.
Oh boy … I wonder who’s next?
Question…do you think that Franken should should resign
No.
Helllllll No !!
Al issued a sincere apology and is taking responsibility for his actions. I respect that. He did not try to blame the victim or call her a liar.
No. tRump is still in office despite doing far worse!
NO!!
The right will ALWAYS excuse their own and accuse everyone else of worse behavior. trump paid for his behavior by being elected president*.
THIS.
Serena and Alexis got married tonight in New Orleans at the Contemporary Arts Center. Vogue will have exclusive rights to the official wedding photos.
I’d post Tweets if I knew how!
ahmahgahd I can’t wait for photos!!!
So he needs to vote against it then. He better be consistent and vote against it.
For some levity
I was trying to post Kelly Clarkson song “Go High”, which she said was based on the comment Michelle Obama said “When they go low, we go high. I like the song.
I hope this one works bella
Thank you 99ts.
If I had a daughter I would want her to be like this young lady. I believe she is our future President,
Judith, Hope you see this.
Palate cleanser
Cutest thing I’ve seen all day!

Goodnight TOD ….
I’m so sorry about Sadie, df.
Love you, Honey.
Thank you, sweetness:) Love you right back. She’s ok now.

df, so sorry for Sadie’s loss. Our pets so enrich our lives! Each fur baby girl we’ve had brought richness and beauty to our lives, as I know your Sadie did.
Thank you so much. {{{{carolyn}}}}

Ohhhhh df…i am so sorry about Sadie…i know how you loved her and how she came to love you ..i remember the stories you told about her first weeks at your home…the loving struggle that was….wishing you comfort at this time of loss…((huggs))
{{{ ❤ DF ❤ }}}
So sorry for you loss, DF. May the love that Sadie gave to you and your family always light your way. Good night, sweet Sadie; rest well.
My sympathies, DF. I said goodbye to my sweet rescue dog 3 weeks ago after 13 years together. He was tough, spirited, funny, and a loyal friend. I hope he and your Sadie are romping it up where there is only light – no sickness or disability.

Exclusive: How an alleged fraudster in Panama, working with Donald Trump’s daughter, helped make Trump’s first international hotel venture a success. The broker was in business with a money-launderer and two criminals from the former Soviet Union. Then he fled.
Shocking, I know.
That is the topic of the Richard Engel On Assignment report tonight — 9:00 MSNBC
Thought it might be. Need to watch.
More shocking news
The focus of the Republican tax reform bill is not to help middle class or working class folk. It is strictly to help the wealthy and mega rich who do not need any more money in their pockets. Trickle down economics is a myth.
*I’m* absolutely loving it.

I hope that Mueller today or Monday find it in his heart to indict someone just so he can make their thanksgiving sad.
Me too. Maybe even more than one.
THIS
For my Sadie. We shared this in her room on that horrible night. Rest now, beautiful girl.
((huggs))
The GOP and their faux indignation on supposed attacks on their honor…. give *me* a break!!!!
Which is what this tweet was addressing
I was just getting ready to post this, desertflower. And I agree.
This whole writing the bill behind closed doors where even many of *their* the members have no input, then saying the Democrats don’t want to cooperate is so underhanded. I hope that once again, there will be at least 3 or more Repubs with a conscience — or even an agenda if that makes it happen — that will defeat this bill.
WTF!
