Twitter has stripped several far-right accounts of their “verified” badge, after changing its policy.
Among them are Jason Kessler who helped organise a far-right march in Charlottesville, and white supremacist Richard Spencer.
English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson also had his badge removed.
Twitter said the badge was being interpreted as an “endorsement or an indicator of importance” and said it would change the scheme.
‘Promotes hate’
The blue badge was first introduced to indicate the authenticity of prominent profiles on the social network.
Originally the site had chosen who to verify, and usually reserved the status for celebrities, public officials and journalists.
In July 2016, it opened the scheme up to the wider public and let anybody apply for a verified badge.
Last week, the social network was criticised for giving Mr Kessler a verified badge, and on 9 November halted its verified profile scheme.
It said it had not intended the blue badge to be an endorsement of views shared.
“We gave verified accounts visual prominence on the service which deepened this perception,” it said. “We should have addressed this earlier but did not prioritise the work as we should have.”
The two connecting threads are 1) men 2) with power — more stories will surface about misbehaving men (whether Republican or Dem, sad to say). MSM are quick to leap on the “what about Bill Clinton?” stories now, I think because Roy Moore’s behavior from 30+ years ago is under scrutiny now. 😦

Nothing matters to this regime except money. They have no empathy for people or creatures. They are the worst of the worst, and enemies of the Earth. They want more when they have enough. And suffering of others doesn’t matter to them. Evil looks like this.
This is why I refer to the current occupant of the WH as grotesque evil. No respect for creatures far nobler than he and his #TrumpCrimeFamily could ever be. "Poaching has been a problem in Zimbabwe over the years and that the hunting industry there faces corruption issues."

If you believe the rich greedy sons of bitches who shipped your jobs overseas and have been trying to take away your healthcare are now actually going to create a tax plan that puts money in YOUR pocket…
Amid the impending GOP tax reform bill there has been plenty of talk about the estimated $1.5 trillion slash in taxes, but there has been almost no discussion of how the Republicans — who regularly tout the importance of the federal deficit — plan to pay for their proposed cuts.
On Tuesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., insisted that the national debt is a serious issue, and that in order for it to be fixed, entitlement programs would have to be gutted in order to pay for the tax cuts.
“You cannot get the national debt under control, you cannot get that deficit under control, if you don’t do both — grow the economy, cut spending,” Ryan said during a town hall event in Virginia for Fox News.
Ryan claimed that the Republican tax plan “grows the economy” but that the party has “a lot of work to do in cutting spending.”
Democrats have said the Republican tax plan is nothing more than a grab for social safety nets.
“This is a nasty, two-step strategy that has long been the holy grail for hard-right Republicans,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told The New York Times. “If this bill passes, you can bet the Republicans will immediately sharpen the knives for middle-class benefits.”

On taxes, Republicans prioritize corporations over people
11/16/17 09:20 AM—UPDATED 11/16/17 09:39 AM
By Steve Benen
One of the most memorable lines of the 2012 presidential campaign came when Mitt Romney lectured an Iowa voter, “Corporations are people, my friend.” Several years later, Romney’s Republican Party seems quite eager to help those “people” – even at the expense of actual people.
There are tough choices at the heart of the Republican tax bills speeding through Congress, and they make clear what the party values most in economic policy right now: deep and lasting tax cuts for corporations. […]
The version of the bill moving through the Senate Finance Committee chooses to give peace of mind to corporate executives planning their long-term investments. That comes at the expense of added anxiety for individual taxpayers, particularly those in the middle class, who could face stiff tax increases on Jan. 1, 2026.

THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW 11/15/17 Still more women report past lurid Roy Moore behavior
Beth Reinhard, Washington Post investigative reporter, talks with Rachel Maddow about two more women describing being sexually pursed as school girls by grown man Roy Moore, including one who was literally called on the phone by Moore at school.
Trump’s anti-immigrant, racially loaded messages resonated most powerfully among voters living in the least diverse, most racially isolated white communities. It is in these locales, which are experiencing the earliest signs of minority growth, that anxiety over approaching diversity is strongest.
Put another way, anger, fear and animosity toward immigrants and minorities was most politically potent in the communities most insulated from these supposed threats.
Orfield and Stancil’s work complements findings I reported on in a column last month that showed that Trump performed best in states and communities that were heavily white, but which had experienced relatively small increases in minority populations, notably from immigrants. While small in absolute numbers, the rate of growth represented by these increases was often exceptionally high: For example, if the nonwhite share of the population grew from 2 to 6 percent, the rate of growth was 200 percent.
Trump clearly inflamed and mobilized white voters living in these circumstances. Neither Romney nor John McCain, the previous two Republican nominees, campaigned on racially freighted issues and neither produced the same pattern of support.

America depends on the success of its middle class families. And today, House Republicans hold a vote on the #GOPTaxScam that would hike taxes for 36 million of those families so corporations and the wealthy get more. We need to stop this from happening. RT if you agree!

Haven’t read the story, but Twitter tells me the woman making these allegations (alligator, as Ron Dellums would say, LOL) was asleep at the time…
Just got a response from @alfranken: "I certainly don’t remember the rehearsal for the skit in the same way, but I send my sincerest apologies to Leeann. As to the photo, it was clearly intended to be funny but wasn't. I shouldn't have done it."
Think it's kind of instinct with men (female here), that they think this is funny. Remember @jonfavs (whom I adore) with cardboard HRC — no malice, but most (?) women don't see the humor…
Liberals will condemn Al Franken without hesitation, he can go fuk himself, while conservatives made Trump President and will make a pedophile senator. Both sides aren't the same and never will be.
I believe Tweeden is lying and used a staged photo out of context to support her lie. That was a smart courageous move by Sen Franken to ask for an Ethics investigation because it means she’s gonna have to say it under oath.

The federal corruption trial of New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez ended in a mistrial Thursday after the jury reported it is hopelessly deadlocked.
Judge William Walls declared the mistrial after interviewing all 12 jurors Thursday.
“I find that you are unable to reach a verdict and that further deliberations would be futile and there is no alternative but to declare a mistrial,” he said.
The mistrial is a blow to the Justice Department, which has been investigating Menendez for nearly five years, but leaves the senator without the clear vindication he had hoped for in court.
This is, I have to say, a welcome and very different response to these kinds of allegations. Men rethinking what they have for so long presumed they could get away with is a start. https://t.co/obiCgB28bb
A functioning society should not be held captive by its elected officials. It seems as though on a monthly basis we have to beat back an army that wants nothing but to destroy our social services safety net. But to be fair we elect these barbarians, and we blindly hope that they will cease being barbarians. Once again we have to rise up and call our elected representatives and beg them not to throw us overboard. When will we get sick and tired of being sick and tired?
Don, one big problem is the racist Trumpbots who keep voting for these thieves.
I’m torn between stopping them yet again, and letting them finally have their way, wreaking havoc on many, but including those ‘working whites’ who faithfully give the GOP their vote time after time.
RW hate radio programs them daily to hate liberals, but liberals are the reason they have the government protection they still manage to have.
Sandy, I feel the exact same way you do. At times I want them to have their way, just so they can show the Trumpbots their true colors. But the Trumpbots are so far gone, they could have their heads in a guillotine and still vote for the executioner.
Maybe we should just start counting the number of powerful men who haven't sexually molested, harassed, or assaulted someone. It might be more time-efficient.
After Franken, I’m guessing the floodgates will open when it comes to members of Congress. Be careful with who you assume might be next. Also, this scenario is ripe for political exploitation. Could be a bumpy ride for awhile.
I have some problems with everyone having a knee-jerk reaction to this, and the story itself.
The photo was bad & stupid. Kissing her was bad and stupid, and there should have been some discussion during the rehearsal, which is what they’re for. But in the photo you can clearly see air and shadows between his hands and her – if you’re looking at it on your phone, make it bigger, so you can see… (She also contradicts herself with her “Turning her head” “as written” as she claims, since she admits to coming up with the idea of not kissing him and turning her head to get a laugh..so it apparently wasn’t written on the page. Yes, that’s a nit I’m picking, but to me, it seems an important one, perhaps since I’m an actor and know how the process works, and since she claims to being groped without her permission while sleeping – yet he’s clearly not touching her – nor her kevlar vest. Yes, it’s horrid, and I’d be pissed AS FUCK. But I’d be more pissed they thought the photo would be funny at *her expense* – which is the entire problem how women shouldn’t overreact when being the butt of someone’s demoralizing humor – and no it’s not funny – and no we shouldn’t be okay with it. EVER.)
But he has stepped up like no one else thus far who’s been accused, apologized, explained that he gets it, and fully supports an ethics investigation into his own actions, even though it happened before he ran for office, and
This ≠ Roy Moore, Donald Trump, etc, hunting and assaulting CHILDREN, masterbating in front of females, taking a 14 year old girl to his home, taking her top and pants off and actually groping her through her underwear, and hunting young teens at the mall. To give this the same weight is insulting and diminishes the other victims. Yes, I’ve experienced unwanted sexual advances that I didn’t invite, nor ask for. Some were HORRID and I was definitely assaulted, but many, while bad, unwanted, and uncalled for, weren’t anywhere near sexual “assault”, nor would I claim they were. Perhaps it’s me personally… but I don’t think it’s black and white.
Ditto, Tally.
In 2008, Franken almost lost to Norman because Norman, the GOP & MN Rightwingers were using Comedic sketches of SNL & Franken’s many written pieces as REALITY instead of as….. what his profession was then a Harvard Graduate Mathematician with a Nerd Dry Humor and at times, filled with filthy jokes. Franken won MN by 312 votes or so when then Sen Obama won MN by 12% points. Many Dems bought into the Lies.

Thanks for correction, I thought he would be in India this Friday, tomorrow.
New post.

Get him outta there. #25th
Al Franken…….
Co-sign, in so many ways.
Franken was on Air America then, & he would do his shows Live from many of those countries where US military had US Stationed Bases.
