But there’s more to this one: Boente, like Bharara, was in a position to investigate the president when Trump decided unexpectedly to fire him.
Rachel noted on Friday’s show, for example, that Boente was the person former FBI Director James Comey reported to when, according to Comey, Trump was trying to pressure him as part of the investigation into the Russia scandal. It’s led to some speculation that Boente could even be a potential witness in the matter.

meta….i have two worries…i worry about witnesses disappearing….and the i worry about Mueller and the safety of his team…when it became apparent that Russia had interfered….Russian diplomats started dropping like flies….am I overreacting in this worry
Mueller is complete safe. He no doubt has bodyguards. Witnesses, I don’t know. Would Putin and Trump be that emboldened? They are both completely insane, so who knows. But it is too bad the Peter Smith committed suicide, for sure. He could have been drilled for a lot of information. But we’ll never know his full story.
For now, I’m not particularly worried about something witnesses disappearing. I think it would be too obvious where it’s coming from. But I guess we will see how this whole mess unfolds. It’s going to be very, very ugly.
