There’s Still Time To Give

    Good morning, Everyone 🙂

  2. October 24, 2017 at 10:46 am

Found this at BJ, commenting on DeVos rescinding those 72 rules for disabled kids.

They are complete and utter lowlife pieces of garbage, his cabinet – the entire lot of them!

    Tenar Arha says:
    October 24, 2017 at 10:08 am

Most of the disability advocates I follow on Twitter are furious. Pulling the guidance documents will basically drive every kid with an IEP into court if their parents have the resources to enforce the ADA. But it will also exacerbate the divide between rich and poor districts. According to them it will devastate the families in lower performing & poorer districts where there’s always been difficulty following the laws. Simultaneously this seems like it will siphon money from public schools by regulatory waste and by lawsuits. And children will suffer, fall behind, and maybe never become productive citizens. It’s a self-reinforcing failure spiral which will start immediately.

It’s awful; it’s that parent teacher conference time of year and the guidance documents people relied on to advocate for their kids are gone.

  3. October 24, 2017 at 10:48 am

Another comment from a mother of an autistic son at BJ:

    Ohio Mom says:
    October 24, 2017 at 10:12 am

It drives me nuts when I see charters with tables at disability conferences (and I see this a lot). Too many in the disability community do not understand how important the public space is to us.

They are spoiled by things like public schools, which must serve us, they are continually shocked when private entities provide no accomodations and no welcome, and often outright spurn us.

The other thing about public schools is that since they serve so many disabled kids over time, they develop some expertise. You only have to put your kid someplace (day camp, Sunday school, etc.) where there is very little or no history with disabled kids, to appreciate the effort public schools put in.

Now I know my family is fortunate in that we can afford to live in a very, very good school district so my views are a little idealized. That only means that parents in less well-funded districts have to fight harder. DeVos is disarming them.

Trump kills Obama rule aimed at protecting independent farmers from big food companies
    10/24/17 06:00 AM EDT

The Trump administration is rescinding an Obama-era rule that would have made it easier for independent farmers to bring lawsuits against big food companies they raise chicken and other livestock for.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyard Administration last week withdrew an interim final rule a day before it was set to take effect. The rule aimed to make it easier for farmers to bring companies like Tyson Foods, Pilgrim Pride and Perdue to court over what they say are unfair, deceptive and retaliatory practices.

I have seen things on Twitter about the DNC purging Berniebros from its staff and that Bernie himself will finally run as what he is, an independent. Does anyone know more about this or can point me to a reliable source to find out more? I will resume donations from to the DNC if they have finally grown some balls and realized who the real base of the Democratic is and act accordingly.

These cowards would rather quit than fight for America against the WH Traitor. Look all those DEMS who voted for the ACA when they knew they would lose in the 2010 elections or who lost when they voted for civil rights bill.

True. They helped to create this whole mess and are quitting the battlefield instead of standing and fighting to end what they have wrought. The next stop is a paid position at CNN or MSNBC where they can safely throw stones and get paid for it.

Flake’s speech was all about having history look at him kindly. He wants to be listed with those who resisted rather than as the collaborator and the enabler that he continues to be despite his words today. How will he vote; what policies, etc. will he espouse going forward; what will he do to begin the removal of a CIC that he says is unfit, dangerous, etc? This is the usual GOP bait and switch. McConnell is reported as having said that Flake will still vote for their tax plan.

I was just commenting on this on Twitter. PBO said most of these things for years, but McCain, Corker, and Flake were all part of the Republican nastiness and hubris that have brought us all to this point. it is only when fate, time, insult and failure come to their doors that they speak out. However talk is cheap; what will they do in the time that they have left to correct their wrongs, to change the tenor and path of their party and to rid us of the deplorable one and his band of plunderers? When will white people start listening to and heeding the wisdom of Black people and other POC?

Sometimes I feel a little bad about sounding so cynical and bitter in regard to current social and political state of our country, but it is even more sad that I have real reasons, life changing, life ending reasons for being so. No matter what McCain, Corker, and Flake have said in recent days, I am not holding out any hope that they will actually do something to change the tide. They only spoke up when they were being attacked, but neither is talking about what they and the GOP congress should and must do to end our national nightmare. Pointing out the problem, of which the world is keenly aware is not enough. What are they prepared to do?

    • 97 No Child Left Behind
      October 24, 2017 at 6:45 pm

Thanks for sharing your deeper thoughts thats trike a cord in me.

It’s liberating and too convenient for certain GOP congressmen to speak up only after they make public their retirement or flat out resignation from Congress. As decent and independent good men, they should have stood firm long ago when the danger of the most outrageous demagoguery was on the horizon. Unfortunately, they were too busy dehumanizing POTUS Obama, attacking and destroying HRC, while colluding with McConnell to make Obama a “one term President” or render him unable to perform the most basic of his legal duties.

Yes, it’s just too convenient. That said, every GOP that sounds his/her exit alarm brings joy to me. GOP politicans can no longer rein in the Trumpians for Trump followers have surpassed the Tea-Baggers in insanity, vulgarity, obsession with conspiracies, and bigotry. Once a useful vessel they rode to victory in all corners of the USA, the beasts the GOP created scare them, particularly when for the supreme Beast controls the nuclear code and leads their party. The words of Jeremiah Alvesta Wright Jr come to mind: the chickens are coming home to roost.

      • 98 CEB
        October 24, 2017 at 7:00 pm

True. They led the barbarians to the gates during PBO’s time then lost control of them. For over 50 years the GOP stoked fear, resentment, racism and all forms of bigotry and prejudice with lies and promises that they would not keep. They have been the servants of the handful of families that hold most of the country’s wealth and they served their feudal lords well as they went from group to group fomenting division. They told the extremist Christians one thing, the white supremacists another, the white middle class something else, and white males another. They created groups for the others to hate and blame for the troubles that their own policies created and they laughed all the way to DC. Now the masters cannot control their creations and they have become afraid.

This vote would be a good time for McCain, Corker and Flake to put up or shut up. #45 is all that they say he is, but he has always been so and he is in the position that he is in because of the GOP. If they are sincere, they will not vote to end this protection; not holding out any hope that they will.

A photo of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Afghanistan appears to have been altered to suggest he was in Kabul, not a US air base miles away.

Images show him meeting President Ashraf Ghani in a windowless room at Bagram Airfield, under a US military clock and a red fire alarm.

But an Afghan press release with a similar photo minus the clock or alarm says Mr Ghani “received” Mr Tillerson.

Both sides initially said that the meeting took place in Kabul.

The US State Department later issued a correction, saying it had taken place at Bagram, the biggest American military base in Afghanistan.

A press release from the US embassy in Afghanistan includes a photo with the wall above the two men’s heads cropped out.

However, another photo tweeted by the embassy clearly shows the clock and alarm, “in what would be a giveaway that it was an American military facility”, the New York Times notes.

The digital clock shows “Zulu” time (the military term for GMT), local time and Eastern Time.

But in the Afghan government’s photo, there is no clock or alarm, with one expert telling the Times there was “no question” it had been manipulated. Neither side has explained the discrepancy.
