Trump finds new ways to condemn reporting he doesn’t like
    10/11/17 11:27 AM
    By Steve Benen

Last week, Donald Trump’s authoritarian instincts got the better of him, and he called on Congress to investigate American media outlets that publish news he doesn’t like. This morning, apparently bothered by the latest reporting on his July 20 meeting at the Pentagon, the president went just a little further.

“With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!”

On the one hand, it’s not at all healthy in a modern democracy to have a chief executive publicly threaten the broadcast licenses of news organizations that publish reports he disapproves of. We’ve all grown quite accustomed to Trump’s posturing, but that doesn’t make his antics any easier to defend.

I’m old enough to remember when the news networks couldn’t find time for PBO to address the nation regarding Obamacare enrollment success, all the while they had plenty of time to push any and all Trump tweets. Too bad for NBC now there will be NO ONE running to their defense. so sad.

As we know, American democracy is built on the ethic of citizens caring about each other and taking individual and social responsibility.
No one makes it on their own. (Yeh his Dad didn’t get it either.) The fact that Trumputin trying to change policy – means he knows that
standing for the Anthem is NOT policy or law. SCOTUS established it as a freedom in 1943. All are free to express or not express
their patriotism/not however they want = propped up, leaning or lying down. Let’s not pussyfoot around the most disrespectful
President on record. Why would you listen to anyone in his position who’s sitting back and watching people/us DIE in Puerto Rico??

Men should throw off the tyranny of the tie, the most useless, archaic dress item.
My BIL who did not own a suit until he met my sister, still drops his ties off to my brother for him to pre-tie then so that the only thing that he has to do is pull it over his head and slide the knot up.
On the other hand, learning to do this is one of those male bonding things that father and sons go through (I remember when my dad taught my brothers how to knot a tie) and it is strangely heart-breaking when I see young men who did not have the same opportunity. It took a village of his friends to teach this little guy, so glad that he had buddies to help him.

Hi meta, this campaign has me quite nervous. I just don’t get the feeling that people are paying attention. I got a request to join the campaign last week but I couldn’t this past weekend but I plan to go help them the next couple of weekends.

We do all this “resisting”, protesting and marching but when it comes time to vote we (democrats) just don’t seem to make it a priority. We have to be coaxed, inspired and moved to vote for our candidates while republicans just go and do it every single election. I’ll do my part but our voters frustrate the hell out of me.

Frank Rich: Bob Corker and the Disgrace of Republican Silence
    Frank Rich

Stating that his “most important public service” could occur in the 15 months between announcing his retirement and the end of his term, Bob Corker has unleashed some of the most direct attacks ever to come from a senator about his own party’s president. Virtually no Republican senators have spoken out in Trump’s defense — will they eventually have to pick sides?

It’s a watershed moment that even when the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee invokes World War III, it is not enough to get the Vichy Republicans in Washington to speak up. The senators who remain silent while privately nodding in agreement with Corker don’t seem to understand the urgency of the situation. Someone should tell them that the tax cuts they are holding out for will not be honored in the event of nuclear Armageddon.

When Bannon mentioned the 25th Amendment, Trump said, “What’s that?” According to a source, Bannon has told people he thinks Trump has only a 30 percent chance of making it the full term. …

He found that most of us are not willing to bow down (as Omarosa once said) to this incompetent, ignorant, f**ker or kiss his ring and run to do his bidding. The ones that he has castrated, the ones who are servile, the ass-kissers are the ones who put him in the WH. The rest of us knew what a lying loser he is and have proudly resisted him and his corrupt gang since 1/20/2017. We will be able to hold our heads up when this house of cards inevitably falls down.

FOUR DAYS IN JAIL for Gianforte went mostly unreported. It was the judge’s first offer and he thought it reasonable.
Gianforte has a history of reported aggressive behavior and is it surprising that just now I was unable to find references. He has ties to white nationalists, is a billionaire bad-tempered guy who likes to swing his weight around. An extremely unsavory character who probably shouldn’t bring his gun to Congress.

I just can’t express the utter devastation like this to so many communities in Northern California. It’s always been such an incredible pleasure to hop in a car in SF, drive across the GG Bridge through lots of beautiful small towns to the gorgeous splendor of the wine country. Now those towns are decimated, hillsides blackened, wineries completely wiped out, scorched earth everywhere. It’s so hard to process, and it sickens and saddens me, especially for the families who’ve lost so much and for the firefighters who have such a daunting and exhausting task.

I hope there’s the will and the money to rebuild and rejuvenate. But with climate change a very real issue, I just don’t know how we’re going to build to resist drought, fire, mudslides to restore the beauty of Northern California.

Right now it’s 4:0pm and the sky is very, very hazy, thick with polluted air. There’s a really eery orange glow as the sun begins to set. I just can’t believe this is happening.

Also many of the fire/ rescue workers are camping out in the park adjacent to their neighborhood.. so again feeling a bit less worried. I’ve been so concerned about them at night, worried they wouldn’t wake up should they need to get up. They have assured me they have it all in hand :).
