      GM DF.

I heard on the radio that she was giving major hints yesterday that she would be running for re-election.

This bothers me no end. She’s 84 years old now and doesn’t have the dignity to pass the torch to a(nother) 21st century California Senator.

She’s far too old to do this (IMHO), and it seems spiteful that she won’t graceful allow Kamala Harris to be the senior Senator from California in 2019.

She and McCain are like two peas in a pod in the way they think, IMHO.

Not looking forward to next year, which will bring Bernie(Russia)-bots out in droves… as if things weren’t bad enough already. 😦

        Agreed. Totally

      • October 9, 2017 at 11:43 am

So true about the Bernie Bots. The emos will be out in force. UGH UGH UGH.

I’ve certainly had my issues with DiFi but I still have memories of when she took over when our mayor and Harvey Milk were assassinated. She’s a beast on guns, one of my highest priorities, but I agree, time for her to pass the torch – that recent crap about Trump was disgusting – as long as we can get a real Democrat to run.

      • October 9, 2017 at 2:24 pm

this is the same rational given to why Pelosi should step down…and i wonder why it is only the women who are targeted as too old to run…

          GA Sheila.

It’s clear that Dianne Feinstein is no Nancy Pelosi. She’s beholden to the defense industry, and is too often critical of her fellow Dems.

Gender has nothing to do with my resentment of Feinstein for not stepping aside and allowing a true rising star, Kamala Harris, to get the recognition she (Kamala) deserves.

Unlike Pelosi, I’m not impressed with Feinstein — in fact I’m often gobsmacked at what comes out of her mouth.

But my biggest fear is the chaos that will result in (already wacky) California next year — people here represent a true spectrum of views in the US, with more than our share of loud, obnoxious, entitled crazies, and the Dem primary will bring out the worst, I’m afraid.

Not my intent to inadvertently compare Feinstein with #SpeakerForLife Pelosi, the most capable manager of a House caucus that I can recall.

The California elections are going to confusing for voters between 2018-2020 (and beyond?). Driven by a new law enacted late last year, “counties in Southern California and across the state are in various stages of responding to the Voter’s Choice Act and the new way of voting as they prepare for the 2018 and 2020 elections.”

          • October 9, 2017 at 3:40 pm

i understand that you were not comparing Feinstein with Pelosi..it was not my intent to imply that …i just got into an “animated” discussion with a fellow dem who wanted the so called old guard to step aside….hence my comments….given the chaos that you fear in the Cali Primaries…would it not be beneficial for the so called old guard to remain in place at this time….one of my fears is that DEMs have not learned their lesson about coming out to vote in the primary….i do expect an assault on our elections again…but i do believe that this time we will have our eyes open…i worry about more voter suppression…but i do believe that we once again we are working on this as well…I am focused on my community to register and bring out more voters….Forward

              Excellent point, as always, Sheila.

Have to say I am more anxious than usual today (which is saying a lot, we’re all suffering from PTTS (post traumatic trump syndrome) — always on edge.

Got virtually no sleep last night, the Santa Anas (devil winds) are blowing more fiercely now than they have for a long time, and virtually the entire state of California is on fire. (An exaggeration, but the potential is there when the humidity is less than 10% [weather.com says it’s 8% where I am] and the hot, dry winds are blowing at 30 mph, with gusts that far exceed that.)

I don’t know how Meta is keeping it together… here’s what’s happening where the sister of an in-law was evacuated at 3am this morning. 😦

As bad as FUBAR is (and if you saw my posts here last night, I’m terrified at the thought of the war(s) FUBAR wants to launch), president Pence would truly irreparably doom this country.

He’s in bed with Putin (who like him better than FUBAR, I think), was installed as VP by Manafort and has some of the deepest ties to Koch Brothers in the GOP. His regime would truly be “one nation under Koch” for USA — and the fat cats will get wealthier and healthier at the expense of everyone else.

This article talks about the GOP dream team of Pence-Greitens (young Missouri Governor, born in 1974) and Pence’s ties to Russia:

“Pence’s pick as VP was engineered by Paul Manafort. The two had daily phone calls during transition.

Donald Trump initially wanted New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to serve as his Vice President but Campaign Manager Paul Manafort had a different idea. On July 12 last year, Manafort concocted a tall tale about mechanical problems with Trump’s plane to force the then presumptive nominee to overnight in Indianapolis and meet Indiana Governor Mike Pence for breakfast the next morning.

‘What had previously been reported as a “lucky break” by the New York Times was actually a swift political maneuver devised by the now fired campaign manager. Set on changing Trump’s mind,’ CBS News reported.”

  6. October 9, 2017 at 10:36 am

They’ve always been there but are now further coalesced by Trump.

Decades of greed, white privilege on steroids, racism and misogyny have brought us to this shameful moment. Those who made this possible should bear the shame to their graves and beyond. The few who repent must show their remorse by doing everything they can for the rest of their lives to correct the wrongs that have perpetrated upon so many.

Very bad wildfires up north. Smell of fire here in SF is so strong, it scared me when I first woke up.

    • 42 arapaho415
      October 9, 2017 at 11:18 am

      GM Meta.

As if this country hasn’t been through enough natural disasters in the past 6 weeks — today heralds the return of Santa Ana winds to SoCal — 20mph hour winds now, gusts are more than that, and our humidity is in the teens. IOW, perfect conditions for hugely devastating fires (which also prompt arsonists to set fires — I’m hoping that CHP or fire departments have stationed personnel south of US highway 101 in the Malibu hills — I’ve mentioned before that it only takes a few hours for wildfires to make it to the Pacific Ocean [about 10 miles away] under these conditions).

CBS radio news just called the Napa fire a “once in a lifetime fire.”

So, so scary, and when the Santa Anas blow, the fires burn everything in their path, very quickly. 😦
Here’s what NWS reported at midnight:

Radio also mentioned that a PGA tournament is scheduled for this week at the Silverado Country Club 😦 :

Hopefully the winds will calm down soon.

      • October 9, 2017 at 11:37 am

My sister-in-law’s sister lives on the Silverado Trail and they were evacuated this morning at 3am.

I got an SF emergency text alert early this AM to close windows and get pets inside. There were ashes on my window sill. The smell and smoke here is very, very heavy. This is terrifying.

        • 44 arapaho415
          October 9, 2017 at 2:58 pm

Wow, simply awful for everyone between Santa Rosa and the ocean — I know what it’s like to have ashes falling from the sky and to have most of the sky obliterated by smoke.

Haven’t seen much yet, but what I’ve heard on the radio, this is the most devastating fire that we’ve had in years. 😦

          Praying for everyone’s safety.

In high school I was in the marching band, my mom wouldn’t let me play football. I tried out for the team and quickly learned that football wasn’t my thing. Anyway we had a girl that tried out for drum major, some of the guys were like no-way. I really didn’t care who was the drum major. Now that I look back on it, it took a lot of courage for her to actually try out, she in fact was a trailblazer.

Basically Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys is telling his players that as black men they are not allowed to protest police brutality. And that they will be benched if they protest by kneeling. My wife and I provide for our family by working, so I will never tell a person what to do when it comes to providing for their family. But I’ll be damned if I let someone as a condition of employment tell me how I should go about protesting an injustice that is taking place in my community that effects people that look like me. In the history of America, she has never found a protest by black men and black women to be acceptable, no matter how benign that protest might be. Our very existence annoys the hell out of you, if that is the case well then you never should have kidnapped use from Africa and bought us here. But since we are here we are never going to bend our backs just so you can feel good about yourselves.

    • 76 Don
      October 9, 2017 at 12:56 pm

As an African American this issue goes beyond healthcare, voting, or any other thing that effects Americans. This is about the right to protest an injustice that happens to black people. What is it to have the right to vote if you can use your power to legally brutalize me and the people that have the same color skin as I do? You can give me all the healthcare in the world, but it means nothing if my basic rights offend you.

    • 77 Don
      October 9, 2017 at 1:03 pm

Here’s a little secret America, Obamacare is very important to us, but it means nothing to us if we can’t send our children outside to play and not having to worry about them coming back home alive. Obamacare means nothing to my wife if I can’t survive being pulled over by the police. Don’t think for one second that black people will give up their lives to save Obamacare, black people will give up their lives to save their children. You can get rid of Obamacare if you want to, black people live survive the ending of Obamacare, we’ve survived much worst.

      • October 9, 2017 at 2:23 pm

Hey Don, not had time to process but want to respond fast quick. Can see why you’d put immediate survival over long term future survival.
The Daddy Knows Best con doesn’t give the Dicktraitor the right to suddenly make kneeling for the anthem a Law. Bringing politics into sports has been a long game + plugging the Anthem for a lot of reasons. But No it is not law. Though there might be pretense about it.
The prowess of African Americans in sports make it all possible for the money-makers and entertainers. And our incredible players have Huge, Huge power. So let’s see it in right NOW in action with a big FU to the boys on the right.

    • October 9, 2017 at 1:52 pm

For some odd reason none of these Facebook ads or Twitter ads worked to trick black women into voting for Trump, because over 90% of black women voted for Hillary. Furthermore, the only group of people to faithfully and consistently vote Democratic is black women.

      • October 9, 2017 at 3:29 pm

Just incidentally, I seem to recall reading a statistic (possibly here at TOD) in the past year that mentioned that in the US, one of the fastest growing demographic groups is that of college-educated African American women.

Having said that, as I’ve ranted before, I’m a young at heart 50 year old white woman, high school educated, miles and miles from middle class, lost my job of over 24 years due to corporate greed, and I’m exposed to the exact same toxic, lying media and torrent of bull$hit from US cable television (even though I live in Canada) as well as twitter and facebook bots, and I would never vote for the likes of Trump, or vote third party either. And even my 80+ year old father and stepmom, who have pretty much the same background, though even less education than I, would also never even consider Trump.

Thanks Linda, it just exasperates me how the media bleats on about all the disenfranchised voters being so susceptible to these Russian propaganda campaigns. People would truly have to be dumb as dirt to believe the stories and narratives that were being pushed.

And if people truly are that stupid (and racist) it disturbs me to think that there are so many of them out there, and that a lot of them are probably heavily armed as well. Sigh. Hurry up, Mueller.

I am not, and never have been, a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, but I wish all the fans of the Dallas Cowboys, who believe in JUSTICE and FREE SPEECH, and especially African American fans, would boycott the Cowboys. Aiyeeee……The brilliant Barack Obama worked 24/7 for you when he was President. You know he’ll do what he can, when he can, how he can. Though Mr. Kuttner, you might never not nohow get to know about it.

    • October 9, 2017 at 7:53 pm

Kuttner would have to have been asleep, or simply not paying attention (like too many others) or he’d know that PBO *is* continuing to act presidentially, and is doing everything he can everywhere he goes to try and maintain decent relations or restore already damaged relations with (former?) allies, even though none of that is his responsibility anymore. Never mind the countless foundation projects and other initiatives that he’s been working on all along. PBO doesn’t need to be told how to best use his own time. Ugh.

If the country is collectively too racist, ignorant, and apathetic not to heed that, that is not his problem.
