    This is not normal.

    https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2017/10/08/donald-trump-defends-paper-towels-in-puerto-rico-says-stephen-paddock-was-probably-smart-in-bizarre-tv-interview-analysis.html

WASHINGTON—U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out Saturday at the “fake” journalists who criticized him for throwing rolls of paper towel to Puerto Rican hurricane victims.

The paper towels, he said, were beautiful. And soft.

“They had these beautiful, soft towels. Very good towels,” Trump said in a conversation that aired on Christian television network Trinity Broadcasting. “And I came in and there was a crowd of a lot of people. And they were screaming and they were loving everything. I was having fun, they were having fun. They said, ‘Throw ‘em to me! Throw ‘em to me, Mr. President!’”

“So next day they said, ‘Oh it was so disrespectful to the people.’ It was just a made-up thing. And also when I walked in, the cheering was incredible,” he said.

There’s more. He’s messed up. Not right in the head. But we knew that.

    Indigenous Peoples’ Day:
Trump’s proclamation leaves out the impact on indigenous people caused by Columbus, the millions who died, and the ONGOING
and wretched state of reservations in the United States. Trump in his terrible ignorance says Columbus “fundamentally changed the
course of human history.” The Spanish began by enslaving the Caribbean Taino and it’s been downhill from there. What he doesn’t say
is that It led to the beginning of mass genocide and ethnocide of Native Americans on two continents.

    • 16 pkayden
      October 9, 2017 at 1:44 pm

Trump doesn’t care about Native Americans. One of his first actions was to approve DAPL over their objections and despite their protests in North Dakota.

  8. October 8, 2017 at 1:34 pm

It should be an embarrassment that the First Peoples of the Americas were treated so badly. And are today treated so badly.
Trumputin’s lack of acknowledgement of Native Americans is the tip of the iceberg. There can be no doubt of Trump’s racism
and antisemitism (now also born out by the ‘Apprentice’ producer) and disrespect for anybody not rich, male or white. He calls the
Puerto Rican Mayor to whom he has been denying aid as “not a very capable person’ (the shame and irony).

  9. October 8, 2017 at 1:39 pm

Trump said the white mass murderer in Los Vegas was “probably smart”. Now he is praising the white men of Columbus’s expeditions
    who were mass killers.

Today “man of faith” = “good”. To the Conquistadors it meant bringing Catholicism to the hordes. To the Spanish Inquisition not converting to Catholicism was an affront to God punishable by torture and death. How’s the GOP approach to religion any different today?

      • 23 Don
        October 8, 2017 at 2:26 pm

Its not different, usually “men of faith” think that whatever means they can use to bring someone around to their way of thinking is justifiable. Pray to “my god” or I’ll knock the shit out of you.

Even if this report were published by US MSM, it would make no difference IMHO.

It’s about sex, and MSM and Trumpaloons ignored the Access Hollywood tape last year as “boys will be boys.” Trumpaloons and GOP elected officials *already* know that FUBAR is America’s Silvio Berlusconi, so GOP elected officials won’t be inclined to get rid of FUBAR for misbehaving in 2013.

We can’t rely on MSM reports, which FUBAR and his Trumpaloons dismiss as “fake news.”

The only thing that might persuade GOP lawmakers to challenge is FUBAR is to besiege them with outrage, as their employers (see my comment here at the bottom of the thread).

      GE Africa.

      IMHO, we are stronger together.

The United States is in a crisis, on the precipice of starting WWIII (the opposite of what the original Star Trek was based on).

At this moment in our young country’s history, let’s let bygones be bygones.

Once the threat of WWIII is behind us, then let’s never forget the past behavior of (former) GOP elected officials — I know that Corker was a strong FUBAR supporter, which contributed to where we are now, but at this point we need as much support as we can get to STOP THE MADMAN in the WH.

End of rant. Please don’t take offense at my comment, but I literally CANNOT SLEEP because:

      • 81 jacquelineoboomer
        October 8, 2017 at 11:27 pm

Truthfully, because of Corker’s stature and ranking in the Senate GOP, I think he told “a few others” that he’d “be the one” to finally step forward and take down trump. None of the others have the balls. I think he weighed departing the Senate because of or in addition to the need to take down trump, then decided to go ahead and announce he’s not going to run again, so now he’s free to do the “slow-rolling public intervention,” from the inside. Ain’t no other RWNJ in Congress – other than occasionally McCain – who’ll give up the cushy job and the self-aggrandizement because of a little thing like America, apparently. So, if Corker does this, follows through, keeps going, God knows what happens … but I don’t think we’ll hear too many RWNJs in Congress call him out about it. And it’s already getting to trump, so maybe it’ll be a two-fer from Corker: he’ll show the courage to tell the truth when his cohorts won’t, thus helping along impeachment/indictments of trump … AND he’ll push trump over the edge so that even the RWNJs will send the posse in to cart him out of the WH, in cuffs on his way to GITMO with the rest of the crime family. What trump would do at any point is frightening as hell, but WAITING to be blown up by him or our OTHER adversaries (because trump is definitely an adversary of this country) is giving us all PTSD and we haven’t even gotten to the full “POST-trauma” part yet.

Sorry that was so long and excuse some of the language – I just had to get it out tonight!

Totally agree JOB, but I am pretty reconciled to the fact DT is not going to be happy until he starts a new war. He views the military as his toy and he is determined to play with it. Heaven help all of us.

            Agree FFTX.

FUBAR is hell-bent on war with North Korea AND Iran. FUBAR literally wants land wars in Asia, from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. #WWIII indeed.

Options are available for those in red states like yourself (see my tweet storm at the end of this thread [as of 11:30 pm CDT Sunday night]).

I can’t allow myself to be reconciled yet … not because I have stars in my eyes, but I’m still counting on the American people at-large (with particular note of Mueller) to end this atrocity that is trump.

Okay, I guess I still have stars in my eyes. Heaven help all of us.

        • October 9, 2017 at 8:57 am

This sounds like may be what’s happening. I want these voices of “concern” to escalate to full throated calls for resignation and a REAL investigation. I want Trump to be CONFRONTED for the non-stop humiliation of our country, complete disregard for our norms and institutions and the daily wholesale torture of our citizens. He’s a monster that must be made to PAY for his breaches and crimes.

You have no idea HOW MUCH THIS MAKES ME gag.

I really hate how “nationalized” local elections have become — as a commenter on TPM said years ago (paraphrased) “I live in an extremely Republican area where people would vote for Satan if there was an ‘R’ beside his/her name.”

It’s just not right that someone with ZERO ties to a state could conceivably win election to the US Senate. Just. not. right.

      From the article:
“Prince’s plan was first reported by the New York Times on Sunday. Though Prince has few personal or political ties to Wyoming, the Times notes that the state is “attractive” to him “because it has none of the personal political entanglements he would face in his home state of Michigan.

      The Times continued:

Over the weekend, Mr. Prince traveled to Wyoming with his family to explore ways to establish residency there, said one person who had spoken to him.”

    • 132 arapaho415
      October 9, 2017 at 12:05 am

(Sorry, looks like I misstated the rank of WWIII on twitter tonight.)

Here’s a script of investigaterussia.org video (you can cut and paste and fax to your Republican lawmaker).

Leon Panetta (former Secretary of Defense, former director CIA)
We are dealing with a very serious national security issue.

James Clapper (former director / national intelligence)
Never, ever, has there been a case of the aggressiveness and the direct actions that the Russians took.

Clint Watts (Foreign Policy Research Institute fellow and former FBI agent)
They pre-planned it. They were based a year-and-a-half out. They’re doing it today on the European elections.

General Michael Hayden (former director CIA and NSA)
There’s no arguing about this anymore, that the Russians conducted the covert influence campaign, at least, to mess with our heads.

Michael Morell (former acting director CIA)
This is an attack on our democracy. This is an attack on who we are as a people.

      Clint Watts
If I’m Putin, he’s seeing dissension between republicans, democrats. Now between the Congress and the Executive branch. This is a dream come true for him in terms of fomenting chaos.

      Leon Panetta
One of the things that Putin has sensed in the last few years is that the united states is weak in responding to Russia.

      Michael Morell
It’s not only the Russians who are watching here how we’re gonna respond. It’s also the Chinese. It’s also the Iranians. It’s also the North Koreans. It’s all sorts of people who are watching how is the United States gonna respond.

      Clint Watts
The media needs to improve, our US government institutions need to improve; and we got to help Americans understand what the facts are, ’cause if we don’t we are lost.

      Leon Panetta
And we have an obligation to the American people to determine what happened, and how we prevent it from happening in the future.

Good evening TOD! So after a particularly ugly day when I severed the ties with my last GOP leaning acquaintance, I watched the “We Are One” concert from the 2009 Inauguration for a pick-me-up. The joy, optimism and inspiration is just so refreshing to watch. Can’t stop smiling while weatching it. It is one of the things I will never understand about the GOP supporters: they have the WH and both branches of Congress, yet instead of happy they remain as rage filled, hateful and ugly as ever. What the hell do they want? The rest of us to disappear from the face of the earth, apparently. But as always, it is a respite to come here. Thank you Nerdy!

    • 135 FoxfireTX

Both Turkey and the US suspended all visa applications for non-immigrant visas to either country. Given our base in Turkey with a bunch of nukes stored there, the deterioration in the relationship is a major concern.

      • 136 arapaho415
        October 9, 2017 at 12:40 am

        Thanks for the clarification, FFTX.

So this means that no American can enter Turkey now, which means that the only US reporting from that country will be American journalists already in that country? Hopefully Americans who are in Turkey now will be safe and not rounded up by Erdogan’s henchmen.

        • 137 FoxfireTX
          October 9, 2017 at 1:10 am

Who knows with Erdogan what will happen to the journalists already there. For anyone who says it can’t happen here, Turkey is exhibit #1 for how quickly democratic norms can be tossed by the wayside.

Definitely a must-read, but not by us who have seen all this from the very beginning. As you pointed out, it’s by no means a complete list. The scary part is that the rest of the entire world has witnessed all of this, and is well aware of all of it as well.

The ones who need to read it the most, or perhaps have it read out loud *to* them so they’ll understand, probably won’t see it. And his core supporters still won’t care. Any GOPer who reads this and still doesn’t care, is an asshole and sociopath and a disgrace and should resign or be kicked out of public office. And if they don’t, they should be reminded every day that they allowed every bit of this to happen.

But mostly, I *SO* hope this is some kind of unofficial heralding of the start of impeachment, or of criminal convictions and indictments happening to all those who were/are complicit in allowing (and continuing to allow) all of this to happen.

Yes, I’m dreaming, but trying to be hopeful.

        • October 9, 2017 at 9:44 am

As you say, it’s such a full yet by no means complete indictment of this monster and this intolerable situation, we must hold onto whatever shred of hope for something to come out of this. I’m sick of feeling waves of nausea every day due to these cretins.

Senator Bob Corker sat his ass up in Washington for the last eight years trying to fuck the Obama Administration any which way he could think of. And now this piece of shit Senator is all upset because Trump is pissing on him. Well fuck you Bob Corker, may Trump continue to humiliate you and your dog shit party.

Their hypocrisy, which *we’ve* all been able to easily see through from the beginning, is staggering. Every one of them is complicit in Trump’s holding office and in his ongoing destruction of the US.

Between Dove and the owners of NFL teams now threating football players with benching if they protest the killing of black people at the hands of the police, can we just have a moment to breathe in-between fighting for our place in this society?

    • October 9, 2017 at 9:22 am

Where the hell do NFL owners think they’re going with this command to obey them or get benched? I wish the players would risk benching and see what happens to their freakin’ teams on game day. Come on, let’s get serious about this idiocy. No owner is going to intentionally hobble their team and their business for Trump’s sake, are they? I don’t know this Jerry Jones guy, so I’m just reacting here but JHC, really? I know Trump ruins everything he touches, but nobody’s going to screw with football more than they already have, are they?

“No owner is going to intentionally hobble their team and their business for Trump’s sake, are they?”

History says otherwise, history is littered with business owners fucking up their own businesses by doing racist shit.

        • October 9, 2017 at 9:33 am

Absolutely true. I guess I’m totally naive on this. Trump won’t be happy until he brings down the NFL to further his raging racism and to revenge an old injury when he couldn’t buy his way in. And I know owners are owners in every sense of the word.

Where are my manners? Good morning, TOD:) In my dream, PBO was working behind the scenes talking to all the leaders of other nations and reassuring them that the fraudulent asshole that was installed, doesn’t speak for America and to just hold on and consider the source when the crazy SOB opens his mouth…..WE don’t want him there as much as THEY don’t want him there! Hold on. Just hold on and try to ignore him. Is that even possible? Probable? Is it just a dream?

Good morning, DF and TOD, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if someone was reassuring world leaders that all will go back to normal in due time.

      • October 9, 2017 at 9:16 am

I actually don’t think anybody needed any help to see that Trump is a solid lunatic. He was practically laughed out of the G20. They may have checked in with PBO just to validate but UGH, I think it’s clear to the world that Trump needs to be in a straight jacket.
