Former President Bill Clinton spoke at the 60th Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine, who helped to end segregated schools by attending Little Rock Central High School, a previously all-white school. The president talked from anything from insects to neanderthals to President Trump and connected it to the strength of nine brave black students back in 1957.

People living in northern Iraq voted overwhelmingly in favour of independence for the Kurdistan Region in Monday’s controversial referendum.

The electoral commission said 92% of the 3.3 million Kurds and non-Kurds who cast their ballots supported secession.

The announcement came despite a last-minute appeal for the result to be “cancelled” from Iraq’s prime minister.

Haider al-Abadi urged Kurds to instead engage in dialogue with Baghdad “in the framework of the constitution”.

Kurdish leaders say the “Yes” vote will give them a mandate to start negotiations on secession with the central government in Baghdad and neighbouring countries.

At our OFA meeting last night, we celebrated the defeat of Graham Cassidy and discussed ways to promote ACA sign ups this upcoming enrollment period. We think Mark Zuckerberg should atone for those Russian bot/ads on Facebook during the 2016 campaign by making sure there are free Facebook ads promoting ACA sign up from November 1-December 15th.

      Exactly.

And as one of the tweet comments pointed out, if they’re STILL whining about this being done during the anthem, they don’t WANT to understand what it’s about.

I say…stop playing the anthem, if the military cross-promotion $$$ can somehow be taken out of the equation.

What a great article, thanks JER:

Quote from PBO in the article:
“My years at Occidental College sparked my interest in social and political causes, and filled me with the idea that my voice could make a difference,” Obama said in a statement.

“That’s why I’m so humbled by the Barack Obama Scholars Program at Oxy, and proud of its mission to identify promising young people from all backgrounds – with an emphasis on first-generation students, our veterans, and community college transfers – not only to give them access to higher education, but to train the next generation of leaders and active citizens, and fill them with the conviction that they too can change the world.”

Enough with the RW bullshit about disrespecting the anthem.

Tell the Duck Dynasty jerk to take the flag off his sweaty redneck head.

Tell Nugent and Kid Rock to stop wearing it as a shirt.

Tell the Palin idiot to stop wrapping herself in it.

There is no law requiring anyone except the military to salute or stand for the anthem.

Any time a RWer opens their mouth about the anthem or the flag, they’re signaling that they’re ignoring Kaepernick’s stated reason for his peaceful protest, because they don’t want to deal with or acknowledge the issue of racial inequality.

      GM Don.

Hugh Hefner had an enormous influence on US popular culture, opinion and thought in the 1960s and 1970s (while attending UCLA I briefly worked as a parttime switchboard operator at the Playboy Club).

Feels like the “Golden Age” of Hollywood (with luminaries such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe) is now officially closed, outside the living memory for nearly all Americans.

This was posted one day before Maria’s landfall in Puerto Rico, but shows Hef supported the country’s living Presidents (don’t consider FUBAR legitimate, and avoid as much as I can using the word “president” in the same sentence with FUBAR).

For young’uns who don’t remember the 1970s, here’s a good recap of Hef’s influence on American style:

  59. 122 arapaho415
    September 28, 2017 at 8:31 am

    GM TODville.

If it weren’t for our awful MSM, who have lowered the bar of decency and leadership to the lowest basement floor, Trumpaloons would realize that FUBAR is the opposite of a “decisive leader.” FUBAR is all bark and no bite, a “leader” who caves to pressure after listening to white supremacists and plutocrats first.

BTW, PBO will be making a public appearance today, alongside WJC and GWB. (See upthread on my tweet with link to AP article, posted just after JER’s tweet from @JasonSobelESPN confirming their joint appearance).

Trump invents hospitalized senator to explain latest failure
    09/28/17 08:00 AM—UPDATED 09/28/17 08:08 AM
    By Steve Benen

Yesterday morning, Donald Trump was so eager to explain away the demise of his party’s health care gambit, he unveiled a new excuse: one of the Senate Republicans prepared to vote for the repeal measure was in the hospital.

A few hours later on the White House South Lawn, the president elaborated on this point:

TRUMP: I just wanted to say though on health care, we have the votes for health care. We have one senator that’s in the hospital. He can’t vote because he’s in the hospital.

REPORTER: Are you talking about [Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi]?

TRUMP: [Nods] He can’t vote because he’s in the hospital.

    ………………….

Not to put too fine a point on this, but four “no” votes plus one “yes” is still … four “no” votes.
