Good morning TOD! Updating from my postings last night. While we all need to be donating to the major organizations who will help the thousands displaced by Harvey, sometimes there is one story that touches our hearts. Jordyn Grace is the three year old who was pulled from the flood waters clinging to her dead mother’s body. This woman managed to save her daughter while losing her own life. Michael Skolnick was affected like so many of us, and started a Twitter/GoFundMe campaign late last night. His initial $10,000 goal quickly ballooned to $100,000 given the response he received. As of 8:30 CDT donations have reached $82,000+. Sometimes it just feels good to give to one specific cause/person. This baby will have to live her life without her mom, but hopefully she will be able to make the most of her mom’s sacrifice with this financial aid.

I just love these vehement denials of wrongdoing by Michael Cohen and other Trump cronies. Who in their right mind believes a single word that comes out of their mouths at this point? If their mouths are moving, they are lying. And I am thrilled beyond belief that Erick Schneiderman, the NY Attorney General, is working with the Muller team. Team Trump cannot pardon anyone from state crimes. Someone is going to take these assholes down, one way or the other.

The mere fact that President Obama basically had to beg people to let him help them is something I will never forget. He should have left theirs asses where he found them.

      • August 31, 2017 at 10:37 am

So many things I’ll never forget, too many to count. Too many times this man was horrifically disrespected and dismissed. But PBO’s persistence in the face of historical obstruction and malfeasance, his belief in his ability to lead change and his faith in us to work for it with him, made all the difference. And it still does.

“And it still does.” THIS meta! His impact will be felt for decades, regardless of how much of the good he did DT tries to reverse. He reactivated us old folks who had become somewhat complacent, and energized an entire new generation that will not be silent.

And every rule Trump overturns is being commented on and people are discovering ALL that Obama did, in fact, do that they never realized. This ensures his legacy and DT is too stupid to know this.

As many times as people have said that history would be kind to PBO, I think fate decided to fast-track things and make sure people came to appreciate PBO and his work while he’s still here and active among us.

It’s the least that can be done for all the bullshit thrown incessantly at him and his family.

      GM Meta.

I’ve mentioned here before that I’m really impressed at HOW MUCH Eric Garcetti has done for Los Angeles, where it’s very *hard* to get anything accomplished… too many NIMBYs here.

But his wholehearted endorsement of charter schools (which I heard on one of the monthly “Ask The Mayor” segments on local all news radio station @knx1070), gave me pause.

I’m probably the least informed person on education issues, but IMHO quality public education for EVERYONE is a top priority for civilized societies.

But as PBO always said, don’t let the perfect be the enemy of good — from what I’ve heard and seen, he is an excellent choice to replace our irreplaceable Governor Jerry Brown.

Interesting that high-profile California Dems have Mexican roots…

      • 42 arapaho415
        August 31, 2017 at 5:08 pm

        Agree nathkatun7.

We’re likely to vote a Dem governor, and like I said to Meta, Eric Garcetti has proven his ability to get things done. He’s not all talk and no action, and he’s very active in community events.

I get the sense that Garcetti is not popular in the African American community because of so many LAPD killings of unarmed people — LEOs (law enforcement officers) are a problem throughout the US, and unfortunately LA is not an exception. 😦

Unless his position on charter schools becomes a real problem, I’m ready to cast my vote for him.

I totally agree with you Arapaho! I don’t think it’s fair to blame Garcetti for the police killings of unarmed people. This has been going on in throughout the country, including right here in SD.

Democratic leadership isn’t going to stop chasing the “pabst beer” voter despite the shitload of evidence that has shown that the pabst beer voter will vote against their own interest every goddamn day of the week. I’m sick and tired of Democratic leadership using the donations it receives to chase after these stupid motherfuckers. And I’m tired of having to hear that these voters only understand something if it comes from someone that looks like them. The average motherfucker that if you tell them something they will listen, but not these special motherfuckers, oh no, for them to understand something they need to hear it from someone that looks like them.

      August 31, 2017 at 3:04 pm

I doubt that Don. Mueller is going to want to have this nailed down, and it takes a very long time to get files from overseas. You can’t just issue a subpoena from a US court to many of these companies and think they will comply. It usually involves getting a court in the country in which the company is headquartered to issue its own subpoena to enforce the US subpoena. Keep in mind most of these potential money laundering transactions involve overseas banks and layers of shell companies. I would be very surprised if he gets everything he needs/wants before another six months elapses.

Nope, I’m the lawyer who prepares, prepares and prepares some more so that when I win, I win! I will not be happy until this entire clan is behind bars, and I hope Mueller and his team puts in the time now to make sure it will happen:-) And I want DT there as well. I was thrilled to see that Schneiderman is working with his team so if DT tries to pardon all these people Schneiderman can get them on state charges. DT operated in NYC for all these years so hopefully they will dig up enough to get each and every one of them. And that means Javanka as well!

    • August 31, 2017 at 3:07 pm

      But here’s the thing……

Can you imagine the complex web of nefarious Trump dealings dating back decades? Having to string out the web of Russian contacts, money laundering, pay to play, handouts, handoffs and Rosneft bundle? That’s a lot to unwind into a coherent argument. I think that much of the primary investigative work is done but there’s probably a new leaf to turn over every week, another thread to follow. So I think they’re getting their ducks in a very straight row at this stage. They will move in on Manafort and Flynn first, low hanging fruit. It will build over time and they’ll have the Oval Office in a snag maybe by the beginning of next year???………HOPE I’M WRONG and it comes sooner.

Manafort Notes From Russian Meet Contain Cryptic Reference to ‘Donations’
by KEN DILANIAN and CAROL E. LEE
    AUG 31 2017, 1:52 PM ET

WASHINGTON — Paul Manafort’s notes from a controversial Trump Tower meeting with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign included the word “donations,” near a reference to the Republican National Committee, two sources briefed on the evidence told NBC News.

The references, which have not been previously disclosed, elevated the significance of the June 2016 meeting for congressional investigators, who are focused on determining whether it included any discussion of donations from Russian sources to either the Trump campaign or the Republican Party.

It is illegal for foreigners to donate to American elections. The meeting happened just as Trump had secured the Republican nomination for president, and he was considered a longshot to win. Manafort was the campaign chairman at the time.

These kids are not taking anybody’s jobs, not taking federal assistance, they simply are trying to better themselves, help their families and help the country they love, the same as all immigrants.
