Good: Iran has held up its side of the bargain, which has been verified. 45 turning US into a lying, cheating state that reflects his character and entire life. For good or ill, a country is seen as a reflection of its leader. The world loved and respected US when PBO was leader; even those who were our enemies respected him because they saw his strength, intellect and abilities. Leaders of allied states tried to emulate him and we see his legacy in Trudeau and Macron. When all of this is over, the US will need to spend generations re-building trust and the presidency will be so diminished, that the country and the world will move on without its influence.

Rwanda is not what is advertised to the world. Their President just pushed a vote through a vote to nullify his term limit. He is going to be president for life. Opposition politicians & ordinary people are arrested, disappeared, tortured, killed etc. The world is in denial because the president does a few things that the world approves

I’m really sad to hear this. Looking at videos of Rwanda on Youtube make it seem like a beautiful, well ordered country. I was even thinking of visiting since I’ve never been to Africa. Sigh.

True that Rwanda is making significant economic progress mainly because it has been receiving higher foreign cash inflows. The foreign $ is from nations and individuals still haunted by their actions or inactions during the genocide. Unlike most African countries, one good thing is that their president uses a notable part of this foreign $ towards developing country’s infrastructure. The streets are very clean and organized because people are punished hard for dropping trash or doing things that are specifically prohibited. What people wear and where they drive must all be in keeping with the national rules. People spy on each other & report to authorities. They must comply out of fear & to survive. Political opposition may lead to imprisonment, torture or death. But foreigners are shown the results of the policies without the context. My country shares a border with Rwanda & there is a lot of inter- marriage and cross border travel and trade. Even the Rwanda president and his ruling tribe had been exiled in my country before returning to Rwanda through civil war. The majority were trained and held important positions in my country – especially in the armed forces.

By the way, it is well-ordered, beautiful nature and you will be okay during your visit. But if you are looking for a genuine experience visiting Africa, then this is not the Africa vibe or context you will get. If you are sure that you want to go then, you can get in touch with me so that you can get a trip into 2 or 3 other countries neighboring Rwanda, AND also get to visit Rwanda. You can then have a cross-section of people, cultures and development

    GA/GE TODville.

Heads up for those in the eastern US (Florida?).

Hurricane Irma is still far away, and hopefully will veer away from populated areas, but here’s why meteorologists are keeping a wary eye on the storm.

“Hurricane Irma, which was upgraded to a Category 3 storm on Thursday afternoon — and is likely to become a high-end Category 4 or 5 beast of a storm…”

    snip /

“it’s a so-called Cape Verde storm, having formed off the west coast of Africa. These storms tend to be the ones that go on to affect the U.S., after gathering strength for many days during their march across the ocean. For example, Hurricane Andrew, which was the most recent Category 5 storm to hit the U.S. in 1992, was a Cape Verde-type storm.”

And the article explains how a typhoon threatening Japan will influence Irma’s path:

“The track forecast for Hurricane Irma will depend on how the weather pattern develops across North America, and that is going to be influenced by yet another tropical weather system, this time a typhoon that is spinning off into the North Pacific Ocean.”

(I think this is good news, constantly confused re: Senate procedures…)

Coffman is one of 29 representatives targeted for replacement by OFA:

    OFA statement at the link:
“The majority of constituents in these districts voted against this administration’s platform, but their representatives are acting as rubber stamps for the White House’s extreme agenda, rather than working for the people they represent.”

You’re more optimistic than I am Arapaho:-( The GOP voted against the Dream Act in 2010 and have not taken any steps to protect Dreamers since then. I am highly skeptical that they will put their necks out this time. They went against DT on Russia because their base doesn’t care about Russia, but I doubt they have the spine to buck him on DACA. Wish I could feel more optimistic about this but just don’t based on what has happened since DT took office. They need to feed that racist base.

        GE Foxfire.

Not more optimistic, but rather more ignorant — like I said, I don’t understand Senate shenanigans, and can’t recall all the things that Congress voted against during PBO’s term (which was just about everything IIRC).

Just going by what Sahil Kapur says, it seems to me that the 29 congresscritters that OFA Rubber Stamp is targeting will be under constituent pressure to withhold approval from DJT:

I think the bigger concern is the House. Remember, the Senate passed the immigration bill but the House refused to even schedule a vote under that POS Ryan (or was it Boehner then?). I think this is what the “petition” is about, a procedural matter that brings it to the floor because Ryan will not do it. The Dems tried this with some other things during PBO’s term but it never worked.

Oh, OK, thanks for the explanation.

OFA.us/rubber-stamp-reps.com is targeting 29 representatives that (I think) represent congressional districts that didn’t vote for FUBAR in November. So if these 29 GOP reps vote with the Dems, then FUBAR would be defeated (again).

I remember living in Miami when Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992 we were without electricity for about 2 weeks. I remember walking to the store with my uncle and standing in a long line waiting to buy food. The guy that owned the store only allowed about three or four people in at a time, and on top of that the store owner jacked the prices up. The only thing we lost during that hurricane was our electricity, I can’t even imagine losing everything that you own in hurricane Harvey.

“September 1: Conscious Commentaries from Bali: Dear Friends, Most of us come into incarnation as rough, unpolished, and certainly unconscious “pebbles.” During the natural course of lifetimes, we are forced to work on our stone—this pressure results in consciousness, thus transforming our rock into a jewel. This personality-gemstone then shines brightly. It is creative, admired, magnetic, powerful and even sexy! And then, just at its peak of perfect expression, we experience the need to place our jewel under the direction of a Carver of a Greater Creative Will, the Soul. The Soul will then carve additional facets onto the face of our personality-jewel, deeper ones, ones that are capable of reflecting a purer and more potent Light. This process always requires a series of “crises of reorientation” marking what we call “the Path of Initiation.”

There are vast, invisible levels of matter through which the creative processes in the universe are at work. These go undetected and thought theoretical, hypothetical, or simply non-existent, until such devices are invented to perceive them. Microbes and one-celled animals lived in such an invisible world until the discovery of the microscope. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto were not included as parts of the solar system until the invention of the telescope. X-rays and cosmic rays were also part of the vastness of the unknown until lenses were built that could see and measure them. As human consciousness evolves, we will continue to make the heretofore invisible, visible and the intangible, tangible. This is the nature of evolution. Our job is to create our own inner Eye of Perception as well as the opportunities in our outer life to bring this Light forward to others. With love and blessings to one and all, AO”

Morning everyone…I see that the ignoramus is trying very hard to keep people sick and unable to get medical insurance….Everyone with a FB page or Twitter account should post this link: https://www.healthcare.gov/ and a little blurb about when to look into Obamacare for themselves, and let everyone know what the orange ass is doing to them…with the blessings of the rest of the Republicans who don’t say a damn word about what he’s doing and why. Let him own this, as he should. Since they are intent on sabotaging Obamacare by not advertising, let the people get the word out for others to see. I grow to hate these people more with each passing day.

My son’s 23rd birthday is Sunday. The year he was born it was actually Labor Day. Fitting. His head was the size of an actual bowling ball and I don’t do drugs…even for that. Let’s just say, I will always remember that day:) Grew to be an amazing man. Wish I could clone him because we need more of him in the world. I will celebrate this weekend and not concern myself with the orange shitstain.Unfortunately, he will be there until he’s thrown in jail. I’ll wait.

Kenya’s Supreme Court has thrown out the results of the most recent election and ordered a new one to be re-run in 60 days. Reason: too many election irregularities and what the opposition cited as outright cheating and stealing of votes, tampering with voter rolls. I can’t tell you how huge this is as an example for African countries. Kenya is our neighbor and worse election stealing occurred in our recent election (just like in almost all of our previous elections). But our High Court is bribed and acts as a rubber stamp for the dictatorial regime that keeps stealing the elections. People in my country are celebrating on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Kenya

      GM GCL.

I immediately thought of you when I saw these tweets. Glad you posted here so I can respond to you. 🙂

This is what absolutely needs to happen here — somehow our courts must invalidate last November’s election — GOP will stand by, allowing FUBAR-Pence to destroy democracy here, and our children will be pledging allegiance to the Kochs (One nation, under Koch…).

Of course I’m very concerned about FUBAR’s impulsive instability causing more (and unimaginably) deadly wars — but Pence in the Oval Office would ensure Koch/ALEC takeover of ALL branches of national government, and invalidation of 2018 state election results. 😦

Pence is so much more palatable to “ordinary” Americans (who don’t pay much attention to politics, and only glimpse soundbites on television) and GOP congresscritters, that it’s truly terrifying to imagine him as president.

MSM already in the tank for GOP, and Pence as president would seal our fate, ensure our doom…
