    Hello Nerdy Wonka,

Praying that you and the good people in TX are and continue to be, safe and well. Thank you for your dedication and tirelessness in keeping TOD going. You’ve continued to make TOD an oasis of sanity despite all the insanity taking place at the White House.

My prayers for you NW and everyone in the Austin and Houston Tx area as well as neighboring Louisiana. Stay Safe!

  4. August 26, 2017 at 11:08 pm

I was posting while NW was opening a new door for us. NW, how can we ever thank you?!?!?! Hope you and yours are safe. Bringing over my post. Then, going to bed. Sleep well friends. It’s been a difficult week and I haven’t had a good restful night. Hope tonight is better.

Checking in for a quick report about the day in Knoxville. As you all know, I am at our daughter’s in VA so I’ve had to get my reports from Facebook and Twitter. *****Good, good report from our experience with the WS. There were actually two events. One in a smaller park in a downtown square this morning–Knoxville Kindness Rally. Then this afternoon a big counter protest against a WS group as they were “defending” a small statue in another area of Knoxville. It was Knoxville Against Hate. The numbers (as reported by all the TV stations and the police) 2800 counter protestors to 40 WS!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Totally peaceful and the police did a fantastic job. The video I’ve seen, the counter group was LOTS of diversity, families, all ages, white folks wearing BLM t-shirts. Lots of signs saying “Not in our town!” Sad I couldn’t be there, but sure proud of K’ville. Our city mayor is a Dem (female), very well-liked. County mayor is R, male. (Going to run for the congressional seat that John Duncan has held since l985 and his father for nearly 50 years before that!) Much of the time, they work really well together and this is certainly one of those times.

On another positive note: Reminder that our daughter is currently separated from her (Navy Lt.Commander) husband. Nothing legal and hasn’t been for almost two years. She’s been purposely dragging it out to get to late spring of 2020 which would then give her lifetime health coverage. Don’t have to tell you how BIG that is!!!!!! Well, he finally filed for divorce. She got served two weeks ago. She’s going to contest it. (We will have to pay her legal fees though she is going to ask that he repay her legal fees since he’s the one filing and he abandoned the family.) Anyway, I digress. She’s been looking for a job, but wanting to hold off until school starts since she has a 6.5 year old and a 16-yr. old. Yesterday, she got a rejection letter from an interview working at a preschool. Today, she got a job working at a new coffee shop/cafe that her church is opening in the next couple weeks. I have prayed for weeks that the door would open for her to get the job she is supposed to get, be around the people she needs most in her life right now. God is good!

    GE TODville.

Houston is one of the few cities I’ve been to in non-west Texas (Dallas and San Antonio being the other two), and loved the city (but not their summer weather, 100F with humidity approaching that mark too).

On one occasion I looked out the window from one of the upper floors of 30-story office building and what really stood out for me was how FLAT it was, as far as the eye could see. Quite a shock for someone who has lived in California since I was a toddler — where hills and mountains are *always* in view.

Cannot believe the forecast for the sweet people of Houston… 😦

Simply unbelievable — former hurricane Harvey is stalled, trapped with no place to go except to sit over Houston draw moisture in from the Gulf. 😦

From Thursday, posted here yesterday (IIRC):

My eldest daughter lived in Houston back in 2001-2002, and I visited her once. As arapaho415 stated, it is very flat. And instead of having freeway overpasses, they dug out the freeway to make underpases so the city streets remain completely flat. Problem is when it rains heavily each of these underpasses floods with 10-15 feet of water with no place to go. All sorts of vehicles, including semi trucks get stalled in the deep water, and the freeways are a mess for days afterwards. With this storm stalled over Houston it is going to be one horrendous mess to clean up when it is over. Sending prayers to everyone there.

    Whither Sebastian Gorka – Breitbart?
Trumputin made him Deputy Assistant and Counter-terrorism Advisor – knowing he’d sworn a lifelong oath of loyalty to the Hungarian Nazi-allied group Vitézi Rend. (Members of this group are btw banned from entering the USA – but aye never mind.) Gorka even wore the Vitézi medal to the Dicktraitor’s ‘Inauguration’. So anyway Gorka departed the White House saying…it’s NOT ISLAMOPHOBIC ENOUGH.

I hope the link below works and I don’t know if it has already been posted. Now This news posted this when Bannon was still in the White House.

Bannon wrote a rap musical called the “The Thing I Am” The musical was never produced. Now This got the script and did a table read of it with actors.

I’m watching the flooding in Houston! Dr. Postel just said this will probably be the worst flooding situation in American history! I cannot even imagine it. We had twelve steady hours of rain in OKC on Friday, and that was frightening. I just cannot imagine what this situation is like for these poor people. The announcer just said the freeways are impassable. He’s begging ‘Please say put!” Heartbeaking.

    GM TODville.

Agree with Carolyn, aftermath of Hurricane Harvey is simply unfathomable.

Cannot understand why ANYONE cast a vote last November for FUBAR — I understand the unthinking “whitelash” explanation, but FUBAR has demonstrated throughout his entire life that he is evil personified, incapable of thinking or doing anything that doesn’t feed his fricking ego…

(not gonna click on FUBAR’s tweet and post it here, but you can if you want)

Sadly, we are seeing that too many Americans are perfectly okay with having a bigot in the White House who is surrounded by other bigots in the White House. The next President is going to have a lot to repair in terms of race relations.

    • August 27, 2017 at 5:59 pm

FROM THE ARTICLE…..this spoke to me…deeply…because it is so true….

My mind’s eye drifted back to 1968. I could see the flames burning Wilmington, the violence erupting on the news of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, the federal troops taking over my city.

I was living history—and reliving it—at the same time. And the images racing through my mind were a vivid demonstration that when it comes to race in America, hope doesn’t travel alone. It’s shadowed by a long trail of violence and hate

I have been through many floods over the past 40 years – but nothing like what is currently happening in Texas – and this is just the beginning. Going to be a massive struggle after the water recedes – and that won’t be for quite some time.

Thoughts for everyone living amid this horror. Hold close to those you love & stay safe.

The person who wrote this lede does not know grammar. What this tweet actually says is that president Trump is causing destruction and record flooding. Let me explain> Pres. Trump is the subject of the sentence; will travel is the predicate verb; on Tuesday is a prepositional phrase, in the wake is a prepositional phrase of Hurricane #Harvey is a prepositional phrase; causing destruction is what the SUBJECT of the sentence is doing. Structurally it is not Hurricane Harvey causing destruction, because the object of a preposition is not the actor of a sentence. So, what this simple subject says is: Trump will travel to Texas causing destruction and record flooding. Think about that!!!

I know this is somewhat pedantic, but these people who are writing these tweets need grammatically cognizant editors. Grammar carries meaning, and clarifies our thoughts.

        Evening Carolyn.
I love me some grammar lessons. Thank you. Poor grammar is one of my pet peevees. I loved studying it in elementary school. Poor grammer shows the purposeful dumbing down of our students, for the benefit of the Republican party.

… At times like these, when the nation needs the voice of a president, it is when Barack Obama is missed the most. The dropoff from Obama to Trump becomes painfully evident in these moments when the two can be compared side by side. Trump should read Obama’s tweet and feel humiliation and shame over how he has communicated with the country disaster. Trump has no ability to feel embarrassment, shame, or empathy. …

I got curious about why Houston’s situation is being ignored by the idiot in the WH. So I googled the election results for Texas. It seems Houston voted for Hillary as did the areas around and south of Corpus Christi. So he’s basically just letting all those Dem voters drown. Hope this wakes up the Repubs in the rest of the state. Here’s the link if you want to see the vote results map.
