“I made a comment recently where I claimed that Republican administrations had been much more criminally corrupt over the last 50 plus years than the Democrats. I was challenged (dared actually) to prove it. So I did a bit of research and when I say a bit I mean it didn’t take long and there is no comparison.
When comparing criminal indictments of those serving in the executive branch of presidential administrations, it’s so lopsided as to be ridiculous. Yet all I ever hear about is how supposedly “corrupt” the Democrats are. So why don’t we break it down by president and the numbers?
Obama (D) – 8 yrs in office. Zero criminal indictments, zero convictions and zero prison sentences. So the next time somebody describes the Obama administration as “scandal free” they aren’t speaking wishfully, they’re simply telling the truth.
Bush, George W. (R) – 8 yrs in office. 16 criminal indictments. 16 convictions. 9 prison sentences.
Clinton (D) – 8 yrs in office. 2 criminal indictments. One conviction. One prison sentence. That’s right nearly 8 yrs of investigations. Tens of millions spent and 30 yrs of claiming them the most corrupt ever and there was exactly one person convicted of a crime.
Bush, George H. W. (R) – 4 yrs in office. One indictment. One conviction. One prison sentence.
Reagan (R) – 8 yrs in office. 26 criminal indictments. 16 convictions. 8 prison sentences.
Carter (D) – 4 yrs in office. One indictment. Zero convictions and zero prison sentences.
Ford (R) – 895 days in office. One indictment and one conviction. One prison sentence.
Nixon (R) – 6 yrs in office. 76 criminal indictments. 55 convictions. 15 prison sentences.
Johnson (D) – 5 yrs in office. Zero indictments. Zero convictions. Zero prison sentences.
So, let’s see where that leaves us. In the last 53 years, Democrats have been in the Oval Office for 25 of those years, while Republicans held it for 28. In their 25 yrs in office Democrats had a total of three executive branch officials indicted with one conviction and one prison sentence. That’s one whole executive branch official convicted of a crime in two and a half decades of Democrat leadership.
In the 28 yrs that Republicans have held office over the last 53 yrs they have had a total of (a drum roll would be more than appropriate), 120 criminal indictments of executive branch officials. 89 criminal convictions and 34 prison sentences handed down. That’s more prison sentences than years in office since 1968 for Republicans. If you want to count articles of impeachment as indictments (they aren’t really but we can count them as an action), both sides get one more. However, Clinton wasn’t found guilty while Nixon resigned and was pardoned by Ford (and a pardon carries with it a legal admission of guilt on the part of the pardoned). So those only serve to make Republicans look even worse.
With everything going on with Trump and his people right now, it’s a safe bet Republicans are gonna be padding their numbers a bit real soon.
So let’s just go over the numbers one more time, shall we? 120 indictments for Republicans. 89 convictions, and 34 prison sentences. Those aren’t “feelings” or “alternate facts.” Those are simply the stats by the numbers. Republicans are, and have been for my entire lifetime, the most criminally corrupt party to hold the office of the presidency.

There has been some talk of late about our President reengaging in the political process. Taking the liberty to speak on behalf of his avid supporters I think that most of us would like nothing better than to see him re-engage in politics in some form. We admire him, he inspires us and he would without a doubt fill a void of leadership that our country desperately needs right now. BUT that would not mean getting into a daily, weekly or monthly tit for tat with that buffoon in the WH right now. Trump lives for that kind of garbage and PBO would never lower himself to engage in Trumps reality TV drama.
So what would that re-engagement look like? For me I’d like to see some type of mentorship for candidates that are running in 2018. I’ve read recently that many of the people that worked with his administration or on his campaigns have taken up the mantle and are running in local, county and statewide elections next year. We need a “campaign school”. These people need to learn how to engage the public, how to tailor their message to their constituents, they need to learn from good orators how to give inspirational speeches and last but not least how to do vigorous voter registration drives like PBO did in the 2007/2008 primary and general election.
Then the Democrats need to come up with simple and consistent message for 2018.
Using PBO next year to raise money and give speeches which I’m sure will be needed is important but IMO it isn’t fully using his skills and talents. I’m not sure he would be interested and if not he has given as much as we could expect but it sure would be nice to see him take something like this on if he so chose to.
On the one hand, President Obama has been and still is my leader. His mind, his morals, his actions were always in alignment with my values. I love him and appreciate every single thing he did for us, for our country.
On the other hand, I cannot bear him being subjected to a single word of Trump’s racism and vitriol. Of course he can handle all that but honestly, he and his family have been through enough. When I look at Michelle’s photo from January 20, I’m struck by how sickened she looks. To see the travesty that followed the best years of our lives. It’s unconscionable.
He must be close to finishing work on his book and I’m guessing he’ll be doing quite a bit of promotion for it. I like your ideas for PBO mentoring other candidates behind the scenes. I think that is what he has in mind as well from some of what I’ve read. He’s also going to have to raise a lot of money for his library, which will take some time. His voice is sorely needed and I personally am looking forward to the day when he can speak forcefully and pointedly when Trump is finally removed from office and facing indictments. That will be quite the UPRISING.
But he’ll always be subjected to Trump and his minions racism and vitriol. Look at that awful foolishness that infowars had on their front page about our FLOTUS just yesterday. They are going to be the nasty, racist, bigots regardless of what PBO does (or doesn’t do). I want us to win and any ideas that will help us get there is all I’m looking for. Just using him to raise money and come in at the last minute to campaign for one candidate or another just doesn’t seem to be a viable solution for the party in the long run. Doing the same thing everytime and expecting a different result is really crazy. We’ve got to figure out how to motivate people to get out and vote.
Nope, he doesn’t owe anyone, repeat anyone, anything, repeat anyhting. The price for wanton racism and stupidity cannot be just six months of the immoral scum and the cancerous party . I want more sufferance. For all.
Heh, but then I am completely biased pissed. Don’t mind me.
I have no doubt that Obama will be engaged in the 2020 elections…in fact, I feel he is ‘chomping at the bit’. I love the idea of him mentoring our Democrat candidates. OFA was a MACHINE and all that talent cannot go to waste. As far as Obama getting into a back-and-forth with Trump? He’d wipe the floor with the fool.
I think all of you have valid points in this discussion. However, I know Obama will give this much thought and deliberation, and whatever he decides to do, or not do, will be perfect for the situation. That is something I always observed he is most adept at. His actions, whatever they may be, will be perfect for the situation.
UN is warning the world we(USA) could b a rogue fascist nation on verge of civil war &/or on verge of hostile acts against other nations https://t.co/017UxXIKba
Not surprised: I predicted months ago that we would become a pariah rogue state and we have. The fate of our nation is in the hands of less than 300 people. After we get through this mess, we need to revamp our political system and judicial systems, re-work our Constitution and once and for all, commit to recognition, reconciliation, and reparation of/for all who have not been treated equally and outright oppressed in this country.
When the Trumps do this kind of thing it is a shiny object distraction. Look over here at the pretty words that I say today and forget what I said and or did yesterday. Chelsea Clinton was sincere and I agree with her. Baron is a child and no adult should attack him. However the Trump family are con artist who, we have to admit, is pulling off one of the biggest scams in history. We can not sleep on this crowd.
…Howard Dean, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Friday that former President Barack Obama should avoid the spotlight or he might help his successor. … “It’s our job to coach. It’s our job to lift up. I think the former president is trying to do that, as are a lot of us,” Dean said. “I’m hoping the next presidential candidate is under 50, at least under 55 in our party. We have got to transfer this over to the next generation.” …
Rev Al said the same thing.
Apparently, there was a Black Female, who wrote a column posted on the NYTimes today advocating……demanding where Pres Obama is when she & many of her age group need Pres Obama’s Voice, Guidance & Leadership now more than ever.
Pres Obama did his job. He warned Us. He challenged Us to vote in 2010, 2014 & 2016…..But we were so easily amused, confused & worst, comfortable leaving the Burden of Governing these USA on Pres Obama while GOP, TeaParty & the Media framed the Narratives & controlled the States Via Gerrymandering & Voter Suppression. Now, we want Pres Obama to do what exactly? Enough! I am with Dean & Rev Al.
Birthers are back. Some moron is claiming Obama could have "staged" Charlottesville. And you think HE needs to wade into that again? pic.twitter.com/eaengewtka
I am with Michelle…”What are YOU doing to help yourself”? The American people who sat at home, worried about HRC emails and couldn’t see past the lies, couldn’t “trust” her…..go find THOSE people and leave Barack and Michelle the “F@#K alone”.
We (all US citizens) are grown ass people, many of whom watched on the side-lines and nit-picked everything that PBO did. He gave us and the world more than any other US president has; hope and belief that WE can change our lives, communities, nations and the world for the better. He always said, “Yes, WE can,” and that ‘we are the ones that we have been waiting for.” He taught us well and left us an example that we can follow, and his wisdom for us to guide us. He and his family should be left alone to live their lives. Anything that he or Michelle chooses to do on their own time in their own way, we welcome, but no one should be looking for a savior. It is our time to be in the trenches to create the country that reflects our best values and all of its diverse people.
This is utterly disgusting. Undocumented folks here will not be able to escape the hurricane by heading north without the risk of being detained by Border Control. The lack of humanity in this administration is never ending. In the past, these checkpoints would have been shut down during weather emergencies.
This sickens me beyond words. Think about the children involved. It’s just disgusting and painful to watch these monsters do so much inhumane damage and destruction every day.
Checking in quickly. Friends in TX. BE SAFE and check in w/us when you can. This checkpoint thing: INHUMANE. EVIL. UGLY. DISGUSTING. The comments by Howard Dean: I did hear him say those same things on MJ this morning. He is accurate, I think. I also heard the interview Willie G. did with the young woman who wrote that piece in the NYT. I wanted to scream at her. Did send a tweet to her: PO taught us, by word and action, what we need to do. “We are the change we seek.” Geez, these people make we want to throw something! How many people, including R’s, are now realizing “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” 😦 😦 NOW, they get it?!?!?!?!?!
I am far enough north to be safe. We have had a lot of rain this week preceding the hurricane but will not get the brunt of it. I am just sick thinking about the people who are too afraid of Border Control to leave. This is expected to go on for days, and many of these folks are the least equipped to deal with the rising waters and lack of electricity, etc. Children will die because of the policies of this sick administration. But then I guess that is exactly what DT wants. He places no value on human life unless it is the 1%. If he doesn’t care about our sailors that died you can bet he doesn’t care about these kids. It just turns my stomach.
So glad you are relatively safe. I share your disgust and nausea over this. Craig was an excellent director and while I know this current guy is qualified, I still do not feel secure in this horrific admin’s ability to respond to human need. It’s terrifying.
In one interview that she did for People Magazine she talked about really liking the kiss that PBO gave her at the Medal of Freedom presentation in 2015 (she is all of us). So thankful that she lived to see her work recognized and to receive such commendation from the lst A-A president.
Happy Birthday to our wonderful National Park system. My President reveres nature because he spends time in it, cares for it. pic.twitter.com/v5kzbhSkJE
and made sure that the Dept. of Interior was led by smart, dedicated people (Ken Salazaar and Sally Jewell) who were there to protect our public lands, not sell them off or be used by polluters.
Agree with CEB, Sally Jewel is a real gem, as VC diligently reminded of us with her amazing weekly videos.
Aside from DJT and team being the most corrupt administration ever, they are also the laziest — all they seem to do is meet with deep pockets and dismantle everything in sight, including the WH web presence. 😦
I keep seeking the beauty of our last President and family nearly every day. It’s like a protection against the pure evil and incompetence we find in our current status.

Laurel Miller, former State Department special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, talks with Rachel Maddow about why Donald Trump’s interest in looting Afghanistan’s mineral wealth is harmful to the U.S. mission there.
R.M. talked about this awhile back that there were minerals in Afghanistan that Russia and other countries wanted. At the time it was not certain if the US Government were after them too but there were US Corporations during the Bush Admin that were interested in them but it was just too volatile at the time then PBO came along and the US Corporations were quiet until they got their Grifter-In-Chief this year. Randi Rhodes was saying that about Black Water CEO wants to privatize the Afghan war with his mercenaries as long as HE is in full control of the operation with the US Govt backing him and paying him.

Meta, he is the director, was confirmed in June. Although I question his commitment based on these statements, he is one of the few experienced people in the DT administration. He was a regional director, I believe, under Craig Fugate. But he simply does not have the high profile that Craig did, which of course was due to PBO. But I still follow Craig on Twitter and he has been screaming for days. So hopefully people are getting the message.
1/ Before being appointed @fema director, @FEMA_Brock was a regional hurricane program manager for FEMA and from 2008-11 was Alabama's… https://t.co/qnQPUkVE28
Thankfully Brock Long has experience with emergencies, unlike Michael “horserace owner heck-of-a-job Brownie,” but he doesn’t seem to be very proactive.
With our amazing meteorologists available, hurricanes offer time to prepare for nature’s fury (unlike earthquakes), so it seems to me that Long should have been just as active as Craig Fugate in recent days (but haven’t seen evidence of that).
It’s understandable that people should be prepared to take care of their immediate needs after a natural disaster (which long-time Californians know — always important to have water and non-perishable foods available should an earthquake strike), but if you’re inundated with water and your roof has blown off, it’s also reasonable to expect assistance from the good souls of our country.
Recent tweet from @FEMA_Brock, again pushing down responsibility to the local level, when it’s the federal government which has the most reliable and extensive resources available:
Going on with @CNN in a few minutes to talk #HARVEY – If you are in the path, listen to your local officials and heed the warnings.
No Director at NOAA. No Director at Hurricane Center:
Please tell me how, how, how, how, how the Nazi Dicktraitor is “closely monitoring” Hurricane Harvey.
He’s watching it on FAUX and waiting for THEM to tell him what to do. Texas and all the red states voted for this a$$hole. Batten down the hatches and be safe, pray and hope you all come out of this unharmed.
KOCH/ALEC/NRA policies kill people.
We know this: Running a Government or a University is not the same as running a corporation – which is all about $$shareholders.
Government agencies are about the welfare of Citizenry. Trumputin’s failed blind adherence to the business model of cutting ‘middle management’ (his view and rationale for cutting Government agency heads and staff that protect us) does not equate to ‘saving government cash’. NO MORE business guys with digits of any size for future President.
It will be very interesting to watch the difference in this administration’s handling of this disaster. We grew so accustomed under Craig to having everything needed in place in advance. They staged things out for at least week. While this director is experienced, I have not heard of any staging going on here in advance. One of the places it was really noticeable was last night. Several people were interviewed who had nowhere to go nor the funds to go far. They were asking about shelters and there was NO notice of any shelters being opened. Eventually the Red Cross stepped up and apparently opened one somewhere but that is all I’ve heard. During the Obama administration, as soon as evacuation orders were issued shelters were opened. I believe most were operated by the Red Cross but I now suspect that FEMA worked with the Red Cross to get it done. Did not happen here yesterday when folks were evacuating.
I'm just talking about Austin, TX. Certainly a legacy of Lost Cause remains, but also a New South reverence for civil rights leaders pic.twitter.com/RVH9kQr1dd

So lets see…Trump is the moon, blocking the sun (President Obama). So Trump is blocking the light….spreading darkness. Makes perfect sense. AND the darkness only lasts a few minutes still the light breaks through and the moon is no longer see.
I think this is exactly right!
Another thing that’s never mentioned by MSM is the fact that the last 3 GOP presidents have been lightweight simpletons, basically puppets for others (Reagan [dementia, Iran-Conta], GWB, and now FUBAR). Simpletons have their place in the world, but not as president of the US.
If time, power and energy permit, it looks like I'll be live tweeting this hurricane…

He was on Morning Joke saying the same thing.
Enough! I am with Dean & Rev Al.
we failed him in 2010 and continued to do it till he was out.
Yes, we did.
YUP
All of this!!!
A[-men, and GM, CEB.
Foxfire, what city do you live in? Are you near the region affected?
The evil of this is breath-taking.
Some goodness for us all:
In one interview that she did for People Magazine she talked about really liking the kiss that PBO gave her at the Medal of Freedom presentation in 2015 (she is all of us). So thankful that she lived to see her work recognized and to receive such commendation from the lst A-A president.
🙂
John never holds back!!
twitler scum whining about dem obstruction when it’s his own pathetic party that can’t get its act together (thankfully)
and made sure that the Dept. of Interior was led by smart, dedicated people (Ken Salazaar and Sally Jewell) who were there to protect our public lands, not sell them off or be used by polluters.
Gorgeous, thank you Meta.
AMENNN
lunatic and liar. twofer.

Trump looks to loot Afghanistan mineral wealth for US profit
Rachel Maddow shows that what was previously guessed at or darkly assumed about Donald Trump’s intentions toward Afghanistan’s mineral resources has been borne out according to a report that says Trump has assigned the task to Wilbur Ross.
THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW 8/24/17
Trump helps Taliban with talk of looting Afghanistan minerals
Randi Rhodes was saying that about Black Water CEO wants to privatize the Afghan war with his mercenaries as long as HE is in full control of the operation with the US Govt backing him and paying him.
ut and other tx toddys. Be safe.
Hello amk.
This storm will be unbelievable.
Texas is an enormous state, and this hurricane stretches from one end of its Gulf coast to the other:
And the reason it’s gonna stall over Texas is because of 2 high-pressure systems that will trap it from moving anywhere:
Rainfall forecasts now nearing 4 FEET!!! (Cannot even comprehend how much rain that is.)
Texas needs our help and support to keep these residents safe.
Gaia’s voice grows stronger, we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. She’s been good to us forever, we have not returned the respect. Wait ’til she winds out the Yellowstone Caldera…
🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Trump hasn’t appointed a FEMA director. This is the acting official in charge.
GA FoxfireTX.
Hopefully you’re in north Texas, far from harm’s way.

So much insanity
No Director at NOAA. No Director at Hurricane Center:
Please tell me how, how, how, how, how the Nazi Dicktraitor is “closely monitoring” Hurricane Harvey.
He’s watching it on FAUX and waiting for THEM to tell him what to do. Texas and all the red states voted for this a$$hole. Batten down the hatches and be safe, pray and hope you all come out of this unharmed.
Hello TODbots.
Be safe, well & protected NW & all the TODbots in TX.
Congrats, WhenPamelaWandered on your Gold Furst ⭐
❤ ❤ ❤ TOD Community.
A former GOP Senator from IN & an Ordained Minister.
I believe his words. In fact, with or without Trump, the Grand Old Party is sunk!
😳
I meant to type MO, Not IN. Pardon me.
Did not happen here yesterday when folks were evacuating.
i live right outside of Philly…but i did not hear about this
Cat 3 now, Please Stay Safe TODbots in TX & LA.
So lets see…Trump is the moon, blocking the sun (President Obama). So Trump is blocking the light….spreading darkness. Makes perfect sense. AND the darkness only lasts a few minutes still the light breaks through and the moon is no longer see.
I think this is exactly right!
GA ydavis00.
@nycjim’s reaction:
Aerial view of Hurricane Harvey (Houston is to the northeast of the first bay/inlet just west of the Louisiana state border):
And finally, FUBAR continues his attack on America families…
New post.

My FOREVER PRESIDENT
I feel like I’m going to sob……
omg no, please don’t let them do this to our kids. I’m so sick over all that’s being done to immigrants, this is truly vile.
Can you imagine what this will look like, feel like? It’s long-term psychological warfare against people who once owned the entire west/southwest.
It is the biggest evil he has perpetrated. We will never get these folks/ families back here to the country they made homes and families in. I will never forgive or forget what’s being done to them, meta. Ever.
Wow. This man is so evil.
