GM, TOD.
Good to come here and see the reminders of what we had just a few months ago and that more and more are seeing the truth of his service. We do not have to be cynical and think that only the most vile can hold office unchallenged. PBO has given us an example, a roadmap, and a path through for us to build a nation that reflects the best that its citizens have to offer. I especially needed this reminder after starting the morning wading through Twitter to check on reports of the hot mess shit show that took place in Phoenix last night. However, just like the mythical phoenix, this country will arise anew from the ashes of its own immolation, when White House and GOP congress and state houses are repealed and replaced via our votes and the law.
Not surprised by this at all. Christian academics are often looked upon by the others as not religious enough, especially if any doctrines are questioned, or as elites who think that they are better than others (many so-called Christians, especially in the South, have poor self-images). Highly educated Christian women, especially in A-A dominated churches, are not submissive and this displeases the patriarchy. After decades in such churches, it was not until I joined a Presbyterian church that has been situated in my childhood neighborhood for all of my life, that I saw highly educated people not being treated with suspicion or envy; valued, but not being held above anyone else. Young people are encouraged to excel academically and are celebrated throughout the year for their accomplishments. The group that works with students help them to learn how to be all that they can be in life while also holding onto Christian values (the real ones; not the GOP pseudo- Christian values).
If Christians would get educated, they would not feel discriminated against. They need to take control of their lives to move up. They don’t try, they don’t educate themselves, but just make themselves victims and list grievances. They have shot themselves in their feet, and blame it on everyone else, just like djt.
Whether POTUS means it or not, I don't know, but this could motivate a crazy. dangerous rhetoric. Sad how few elected officials condemn it https://t.co/9MEJbG2rlC
Unlike President Obama, Trump is willing to stand up *for* white supremacist extremists — the #1 domestic terror threat facing America. https://t.co/BUzMYLd5u1
Trump must decide whether to continue Barack Obama’s executive action protecting the dreamers (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA)…
…the Trump White House wants to use this population as a bargaining chip to compel Congress to fund a border wall, stepped-up deportations, cuts to legal immigration and a requirement that all employers use E-Verify. Evaluated solely on its own terms, this would be a truly awful deal for immigration advocates and Democrats: It would constitute giving the restrictionists a whole range of things they covet, in exchange for not removing protections from dreamers that even many Republicans are loath to see removed.
And they gave him hit pieces and GOP sound-bites in return. Now their jobs and lives are being threatened by an office holder that many of them enabled.
But that same press was more than happy to fawn all over Trump and normalize him and give him loads of attention and camera time. They deserve him. We don’t.
The deportation system verges on lawlessness. The rule of law requires that functioning tribunals arbitrate disputes fairly, efficiently and accurately. The immigration court system, which decides who will be deported and who may remain in the US, fails this test.
Take a recent case handled by the immigration clinic at the University of Texas School of Law. Our client was a radio journalist from Honduras, where speaking out against government misdeeds is very likely to get you killed.
Our client survived several assassination attempts before fleeing to the US and presenting himself at the border to seek asylum under US law. He was detained and eventually released to attend immigration court hearings.
……………..
The government has taken an aggressive stance on immigration enforcement, detaining and seeking to deport in large numbers. Yet it has failed to provide adequate resources for adjudication of the resulting cases by the immigration courts, even though these courts must decide complicated issues, including legitimate claims to legal status.
In this study, we analyze both mainstream and social media coverage of the 2016 United States presidential election. We document that the majority of mainstream media coverage was negative for both candidates, but largely followed Donald Trump’s agenda: when reporting on Hillary Clinton, coverage primarily focused on the various scandals related to the Clinton Foundation and emails. When focused on Trump, major substantive issues, primarily immigration, were prominent. Indeed, immigration emerged as a central issue in the campaign and served as a defining issue for the Trump campaign.
We find that the structure and composition of media on the right and left are quite different. The leading media on the right and left are rooted in different traditions and journalistic practices. On the conservative side, more attention was paid to pro-Trump, highly partisan media outlets. On the liberal side, by contrast, the center of gravity was made up largely of long-standing media organizations steeped in the traditions and practices of objective journalism.
Our data supports lines of research on polarization in American politics that focus on the asymmetric patterns between the left and the right, rather than studies that see polarization as a general historical phenomenon, driven by technology or other mechanisms that apply across the partisan divide.
The analysis includes the evaluation and mapping of the media landscape from several perspectives and is based on large-scale data collection of media stories published on the web and shared on Twitter.
Key Takeaways
Donald Trump succeeded in shaping the election agenda. Coverage of Trump overwhelmingly outperformed coverage of Clinton. Clinton’s coverage was focused on scandals, while Trump’s coverage focused on his core issues.
THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW 8/22/17 Trump attacked McConnell on Russia investigation: NYT
Rachel Maddow shares a new report from the New York Times about the strained relationship between Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell and notes that the intensifying Trump Russia investigation may be wearing on Trump as he risks another obstruction accusation.
His quiet, unassuming demeanor notwithstanding, Mitch McConnell has spent many years taking a sledgehammer to American political norms. The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank argued persuasively in April that the Kentucky Republican effectively “broke America.” The columnist added, “No man has done more in recent years to undermine the functioning of U.S. government. His has been the epitome of unprincipled leadership,”
As we discussed at the time, it was McConnell who pushed the political limits in ways without precedent in the American tradition, ignoring any sense of norms or institutional limits. It was McConnell who cooked up an unprecedented scorched-earth scheme to obstruct President Obama, hoping to undermine his legitimacy and rejecting the idea of bipartisan compromises.
It was McConnell who was warned about Russia’s illegal attack on the American election last year, only to scuttle efforts to address the crisis because he wanted to put Moscow’s candidate – in this case, Donald Trump – in the Oval Office.
The Republican’s Senate leader knew Trump was unfit for office. He recognized Trump’s ignorance. He was well aware of each of Trump’s most depraved qualities. Part of him may have even appreciated how his own brand of cynical political warfare helped create the conditions that led to Trump’s rise in his party in the first place.
But McConnell, ignoring the dangers, nevertheless did everything he could to put Trump in power, hoping congressional Republicans could compensate for their president’s ineptitude and expecting Trump to be little more than a pen for GOP legislation.
And it’s apparently now dawning on the majority leader that those hopes were folly.
Quick! Someone say another name so the idiot will choose THAT one! The orange ass got inserted to the Oval Office by Russia to steal from and weaken America….quid pro quo with Putin. He cares nothing about anything or anyone but himself. Impeach him now.

I have been giving myself a beauty break of I remember when, by looking at video, photos and articles about the Obamas’ interactions with the British Royal family. From day 1, the Brits have given unprecedented attention and affection to PBO, MO and even the girls (when they went to visit with their mom the queen gave them a tour of B. palace). Other American presidents have wanted this, but the Obamas are the only ones to receive it. Lunch at Windsor Castle (which is considered to be home; Buckingham Palace is the “office.”), lunch with the princes at their private home, being introduced to Will and Kate’s son, the Queen and Prince Phillip meeting them when Marine One landed at Windsor and personally driving them to their home, all of the times Prince Harry has visited with Michelle re: Going Forces and Invictus Games, the cute trash-talk video regarding the games, and so much more. The haters wanted the royals to be dismissive or to only do the minimum that was required, but the Royal family went out of their way to welcome and to show affection for the Obamas. This was even more of a statement because of how the haters lost their minds when Michelle and the Queen had their arms around each other on the first trip. The queen actually went so far as put out a statement that basically it was no big deal and that the queen had taken to Michelle. Now we have someone in the WH who is so disgusting that 100’s of thousands of Brits have signed a petition that he not be given a state dinner. Karma can be a huge bitch at times.
Too busy fighting to keep a Democratic president from succeeding for the American people and another Democrat from being elected president, the Republicans forgot to take care of their own house. In their zeal to keep Obama from getting more done, they broke the legislative process. While they were sharpening their knives for Hillary Clinton, they could not imagine it could cut them, too.
So McConnell is now feuding with Trump, his own creation. Because, the news tells us, in demanding absolute loyalty to himself, Trump is putting the Republicans’ control of Washington – and their ability govern (ha, ha) – in jeopardy.
I miss him more everyday:(
The last 7 months has been hell with the man child guy in the white house. I missed Obama in office. I am so sick of man child trumpie….

New post.

Boo. Hoo.
