Jeff Davis was a Senator …. Trump is “President” …. no President has ever come close to what he has accomplished …..

… he should be ‘praised’ for his revealing that Republicans have absolutely no regard for our Democracy and the vast majority of the population. Donald Trump has shredded any doubt and for that he deserves recognition. His accomplishment is truly historic.

The narrators of the various shows about tomorrow’s eclipse are either almost breathless or foreboding; still others are geeky with excitement. I might just take a nap during the whole thing.

I am already missing the kind of poetic, yet science-geeky statement that Obama would have made if he was still in the WH for this event. I know the scientist miss their Scientist-in-Chief Obama even more than we do.

“Hey! You are the President! Your job is Consoler-in-Chief as well as reassuring the citizens. Your reply seemed devoid of the knowledge of the breadth and scope of your duties.” Does that in itself not even counting in the numerous other examples prove he is not fit for the job of leading this Country?

GM Dudette-who-never-sleeps (bad Dudette, we *all* need our beauty sleep — though I admit, FUBAR has wreaked havoc with my sleep patterns ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ).

Reply to @RedTRacoon (though it’s from the Daily Mail, and my inclination is to be skeptical of their “reporting,” but they based their article on a New Scientist interview).

From the sub-head of the article:
And if used by state operators, it could cause huge ships to collide…

So many things to keep track of in the world…

BTW, Twitter seems to be bashing FUBAR for his disregard of the missing sailors, but *in this case only,* this may be unfair to FUBAR:

Nothing is unfair to the little weasel – he should have known about the collision and most would say – “we are waiting for further information” or whatever. He does not deserve the benefit of the doubt – not ever.

My youngest daughter, her husband and two children (three year old and six month old) came down from Seattle to visit me in Grand Ronde, Oregon. I am around 26 miles East of Lincoln City in the path of totality. We watched the eclipse from my patio. The over crowded hype may have chased people away from the Coast and here as it was PERFECT with awesome viewing. They will go back to Seattle tomorrow hoping to avoid freeway traffic. BTW watching from the beginning to the end made me very aware of how lucky I was to see the total eclipse. We cheered, and oohed and awed while the three year old said, “It is time to go night night” on reaching totality.

Exclusive: Secret Service depletes funds to pay agents because of Trump’s frequent travel, large family
Kevin Johnson, USA TODAY Published 5:00 a.m. ET Aug. 21, 2017

WASHINGTON โ€” The Secret Service can no longer pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission โ€“ in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump’s family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast.

Secret Service Director Randolph “Tex” Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year.

PBO was the first president known to carry cash and to publicly pay for items (often treated those around him) and he and Michelle did not avail themselves of perks that every First family used because of all of the shit about what things cost. Of course, this was all about racism, not any concern about money. I remember PBO saying that the one thing that angered him the most were the unjust and lying comments about what taxpayers paid for. Now these racists have their Great White Hope president who is making money off all of us and incurring huge costs that are emptying budgets. Everyday the irony of the lies told about the Obamas being the truth about the Trump crime family are loudly and clearly illustrated.

The Power of Privilege: Why Charlottesville Has Succeeded Where Charleston Failed
    Trevor LaFauci
    August 21, 2017

Charlottesville did what Charleston could not because the events in that city directly affected White people. This wasn’t simply something that happened in an historically African-American church in a deep-red state. This was a something that happened an affluent, middle-class community with a prominent public university in a purple state that has been trending blue in recent elections. In other words, it was something that could have happened anywhere. People choose to live in and around Charlottesville because they feel safe. Ten days ago, an army of torch-wielding, violent Nazis entered their town, weapons in hand. When on Saturday, three people died including activist Heather Heyer, the community felt threatened as if their own very lives were at stake. For those in the community who grew up in privilege, it was the first time in their lives they had felt this way and for them it was terrifying.

And it was this newfound White fear that finally got the ball rolling on the actions that occurred over the past week. Because the last time White people in this country felt legitimate fear was during World War II when the threat of Adolf Hitler taking over the world was very, very real. When Donald Trump refused to denounce, then half-heartedly denounced, then again refused to denounce the Nazis present in Charlottesville, White people became enraged. Their lives are supposed to be valued and protected and when the president seemed unable and unwilling to do so, it became apparent that something had to be done. If Donald Trump wasn’t going to decry the violence in Charlottesville, then what was stopping the Nazis from spreading their hatred and violence to other cities and towns throughout the country?

All of this is the absolute truth. The 9 black lives sacrificed to white rage supremacy did not change anything in this country because Black lives do not matter. While I am pleased about what is currently going on, I do not expect it to change Black life in any significant ways. The current protests are not about Black people, really. As usual in our history, when white people are affected by something, disease, poverty, etc, there will be some social movement, but Black folks will get a little of the benefit and much later (social security and medicare for example).

Jared Kushner’s firm seeks arrest of Maryland tenants to collect debt
    Doug Donovan

The real estate company owned by Jared Kushner, son-in-law and top adviser to President Donald Trump, has been the most aggressive in Maryland in using a controversial debt-collection tactic: getting judges to order the arrest of people who owe his company money.

Since 2013, the first full year in which the Kushner Cos. operated in Maryland, corporate entities affiliated with the firm’s 17 apartment complexes in the state have sought the civil arrest of 105 former tenants for failing to appear in court to face allegations of unpaid debt, The Baltimore Sun has found.

That’s more than any other landlord in the state over that time, an analysis of Maryland District Court data shows. Court records show that 20 former Kushner tenants have been detained.

The girls made valentines for the agents’ families, the family as a whole did not do things to make their jobs more difficult, and I even remember a little anecdote Michelle was told about the family disagreeing about not getting a particular agent on their detail one day “How do you get to have Scott,” Malia reportedly demanded. The biggest evidence of the agents’ affection for them is the watch that they gave PBO that he wore for years. Now, they are exploited, disrespected, and gouged by the graceless ungrateful #45 and his nasty-ass family.
