what i find fascinating is that there does not seem to be any blk folks among the so called counter protesters…the counter protesters coalition was made up of several group….the clergy has black members…but from the pictures being shown on Am Joy…there was no blk presence..
Black people have no power, no protection, and are not the ones causing trouble. A-A cannot fight racism/terrorism because much of the law enforcement persecutes them and will not protect them or convict those who hurt and kill them, indeed they are among this group. White people have to confront the evil that is raised up among them. If white people are being shown fighting back, cops, etc. are less likely to use force against them and if they do, they have more recourse in the courts than Black people. Furthermore, the federal govt. especially the DOJ has been taken over by racists/white nationalist so we have no allies. It is more than tie for white people who benefit from privilege stand up and say no more. It is a fight for survival every time Black folk leave home. We are not even safe in our own churches. Let those who have the real power to bring about change show who they are and let their actions reflect what they say. We showed up at the ballot box, in the face of voter suppression, threats, Russian interference, and privileged white people who threw away their votes or refused to vote at all, and let our voices be known. Go back and look at the stats of who voted for whom and what percentages in 2016 before there are any questions about why Black people are not showing up in scenes like this. Nothing that we do is ever enough.

UVA is one of the few college campuses I’ve been to (a former boyfriend is a UVA graduate, and understandably has great love for the place — he was lucky enough to have had a “lawn” residency, a prized honor there).
It’s been 20 years since I’ve been there, but it’s nestled in Virginia thoroughbred territory (think Christopher Reeves — large, lush properties), and no major population centers nearby. A beautiful, historic, campus, and as a Californian, I was completely oblivious to the central role Virginia played in the Civil War.
When I visited, I didn’t see many African Americans, either on campus or in Charlottesville (saw far more Asian Americans than African Americans).
P.S. Before dating that boyfriend, the only time I had heard of Charlottesville before was on an episode of “The Waltons” TV show, a reference to going to town for some reason or event (don’t remember what now).
This morning’s news has twisted my insides like little else in my long life. My parents lived through the Nazi rallies in the U.S. in the 30s, and I know they never expected this to happen in our country. Neither did I.
For several years I used the novel “Night” by Elie Wiesel as part of my freshman Composition course. It was an eye opener for my young students. As part of that unit, I showed the film “Triumph of the Will” directed by Leni Reifenstahl and used as propaganda by Hitler. It glorified the Nuremberg rally of 1934. Much of that rally was at night, with torches being carried in parades. This similarity is too awful. Night rallies are a tool of Nazis, and used to horrible psychological effect. These white males….and females…?? are absolutely evil. There is no nicer word.

I want to share some good and uplifting news. A young woman here in Knoxville created an organization 12 years ago called Girls Inc. Every August, the organization has a gala (fund raiser). (Disclaimer: The young woman who heads it is one of our praise& worship singers; so is her husband; few of the people on her Board are church members.) Her Facebook page is full of posts and pictures of the night–young girls stories of how the organization has changed their lives, stories from their parents and teachers. I’ve read all the posts and been brought to tears. I’m going to share the post her husband wrote. I think it sums up the best what Dee Dee and her organization are achieving and the huge difference they are making in the lives of hundreds/thousands of young AA girls in our community.
My wife, almost 12 years ago, had a vision to mentor young girls and provide a safe space for them. Hundreds have come through this program but none have remained the same. Tears are welling in my eyes as I think of the stories I hear of how one after the other they experience breakthrough in group sessions or the one on one mentoring the organization offers. I remember the nights she’s cried because she wasn’t sure people understood what she was trying to create. Denetria Danielle Moore I think the world is finally coming to understand what you are building. I saw the future tonight in the eyes of young girls who proudly “WORKED” the runway tonight. Our future was on display. Girl Talk, Inc is literally changing the world one life at a time and I have a front row seat at the unveiling. Dee Dee, Janea Peterson, and every woman who labors with this organization, I thank you for laying the foundation for strong women who will soon create a strong world.
Can’t express how much I wish all of you could see all the posts with pictures or videos of these young girls and how lives are being changed every day. There is HOPE, friends.
I could not and did not watch the inauguration. But every photo and piece of video I’ve seen of FLOTUS that day indicates to me that she was sick to her stomach, as were we. You could see it in her eyes, in her jaw, in her posture. I hate that she had to get through that day in that place. What a travesty.
This is to everyone here at TOD, sometimes when I write stuff its just a way of venting among people that I like conversing with. I mean no disrespect to anyone here.

Good morning TOD family. I am tied in knots over all this craziness. Here in Missoula we are surrounded by at least 10 fires. The smoke is so thick we can’t see our mountains. They say it will be October before most of these fires will be pur out. All the folks with breathing problems are trying to go somewhere else. Folks have said its smoky all the way to Seattle. The west is covered with fire and smoke. But we have no climate change.
On another note our son flew out yesterday to Singapore. He will arrive Sunday morning. Then he will start Teaching Monday morning. He will be teaching math to 6, 7, and 8th graders at Excelsior International School. I am so excited for him and look forward to the day when we will visit him.
I pray for all of us that we will survive all that is happening to this country.

How we counter this, is to be civically engaged. Register people to vote. Volunteer to help them vote. Turn out to vote. EVERY TIME. NO EXCUSES. They fear that they will be marginalized and left out. This is fear. Demographics is not in their favor, so they show up to vote every time, and elect people that speak of fear and “others” as if being “other” is bad….and they gerrymander and get civil rights and voting rights in order to stem the tide that will eventually come pouring over them….we need to make OUR country the best and most inclusive it can be….the way to do that is to use our voices at the ballot box and be engaged and vocal…enough to drown the hate and put love and empathy in its place.

Good morning TOD family. I am tied in knots over all this craziness. Here in Missoula we are surrounded by at least 10 fires. The smoke is so thick we can’t see our mountains. They say it will be October before most of these fires will be pur out. All the folks with breathing problems are trying to go somewhere else. Folks have said its smoky all the way to Seattle. The west is covered with fire and smoke. But we have no climate change.
Our local professor who is part of Al Gore’s Nobel Peace prize has retired from teaching so he can fight climate deniers.Here is the article about him. On another note our son flew out yesterday to Singapore. He will arrive Sunday morning. Then he will start Teaching Monday morning. He will be teaching math to 6, 7, and 8th graders at Excelsior International School. I am so excited for him and look forward to the day when we will visit him.
I pray for all of us that we will survive all that is happening to this country.

How we counter this, is to be civically engaged. Register people to vote. Volunteer to help them vote. Turn out to vote. EVERY TIME. NO EXCUSES. They fear that they will be marginalized and left out. This is fear. Demographics is not in their favor, so they show up to vote every time, and elect people that speak of fear and “others” as if being “other” is bad….and they gerrymander and get civil rights and voting rights in order to stem the tide that will eventually come pouring over them….we need to make OUR country the best and most inclusive it can be….the way to do that is to use our voices at the ballot box and be engaged and vocal…enough to drown the hate and put love and empathy in its place.
