You know, this pic that PBO used in his first tweet has graced the front page of TOD many times in the past. I always thought it was an adorable pic of our President interacting with the little ones. But it’s only tonight with PBO’s tweet did I consider that the kids are from different racial/ethnic groups and have different skin colors, yet they are all huddling together to look out through the same window without seemingly a care about the race or skin color of the kid standing next them to them.
And this is what may have most intrigued PBO as he stopped by to greet them. The pureness of the hearts of our youngest children. Their natural curiosity is about the outside world, not how to hate others because of their skin or race. I’m glad he used that pic, because I gained a perspective from it that I hadn’t before. Once again, our President Obama is using this as a teachable moment for the betterment of humanity.
This story from MLK has always stayed with me – since someone on TOD mentioned it – I don’t know when. Children are not born racist.
