For some good news, here in Baltimore. Today Mayor Pugh announced free Community College beginning 2018 for Baltimore city grads. Heroin addiction help, youth employment & recreation- calling it a “holistic approach to crime prevention” http://www.wbaltv.com/article/mayor-catherine-pugh-to-unveil-crime-fighting-plan/11658204

As a city resident w/ a son who graduates next year and lives in a neighborhood beset with crime, particularly with folks on heroin.. this gives me some hope for Baltimore. However, most of the folks in our neighborhood buying/ selling/ using heroin are in their 30s. Which means they didn’t get or possibly utilize opportunities when they were in school/ graduating… so I hope these helps will extend to them too. Most of the shootings are done by/ committed against males in their 20s and 30s. I know it will take a long time to repair this city, but I hope this is going to help at least.

This is the Obamas’ legacy; the many young people that they inspired by the examples of how they conducted themselves in office, how they live their daily lives, and by the work that they have done to encourage and aid young people here and around the world. Many of them have joined the resistance in various capacities and others like, Krishanti, are running for office. When I see news like this I understand the optimism for our future that the Obamas have. These old farts who are currently causing such mayhem will be either dead, rotting away in jail, or side-lined by old age and illness. People like them will fade out of the public discourse and offices to be replaced by a younger generation that takes diversity for granted, thinks that women can and should do/be anything, that kindness is strength, and that chasing the dollar is not something on which to center their lives. They have learned that honorable public service is something devoutly to be wished, and that it is important to seek to do something rather than to be something. These young people give me hope.

      GE Nena.

      Good information in the article…

“The jet is authorized to enter P-56, the highly secure airspace surrounding the White House.”

“The flight was part of the Treaty on Open Skies, which allows military aircraft from the United States and Russia and other nations to fly aerial observation flights to observe military sites of the 34 signatory nations.

The Russian Air Force Tupolev Tu-154 on Wednesday afternoon passed at around 3,700 feet over downtown Washington and Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where Air Force One is based, according to tracking website Flightradar24.”

More… (hope this doesn’t violate copyright laws):
“A second flight by the same jet is planned for between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, when the Russian jet will overfly Bedminster, New Jersey, where President Donald Trump is vacationing, according to two people familiar with the US government-approved flight.

A law enforcement source told CNN that the plane also overflew Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountains, the Trump National Golf Course in Virginia, and Mount Weather, one of the US government’s secret relocation bunkers.

United States Air Force personnel were on the flight and the aircraft is capable of a variety of intelligence gathering, one of the people said.
The Open Skies Treaty has been in effect since 2002 and over 1,200 flights have been conducted since, which contributes to verification of compliance with arms control agreements, according to the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency.”

GOP food fight: Trump and McConnell take aim at each other
    08/10/17 08:00 AM
    By Steve Benen

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) spoke to a Rotary Group in Kentucky on Monday, expressing some frustrations about Donald Trump’s “excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process.” The GOP’s Senate leader added that the president doesn’t yet understand the “reality” of the legislative process.

The New York Times reports that the two Republicans spoke by phone yesterday, and Trump expressed “his disappointment” with McConnell’s comments. Soon after, the president’s private concerns became public concerns.

“Senator Mitch McConnell said I had ‘excessive expectations,’ but I don’t think so,” Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, as he and lawmakers took time away from Washington during the August recess. “After 7 years of hearing Repeal & Replace, why not done?”

They know that PBO’s strategies were working no matter what was said in public to the contrary. Once again, you have a white man taking credit for what a Black man has done. However, PBO said long ago that he does not care about getting credit as long as things get done, but it is because he has this mindset that others laud his successes and he will live long in history as a positively transformative figure in American politics and life. The deplorables who are currently in office will be a footnote and an allegory for the great fall that is brought about by unfettered hubris and hate.

Kay at Balloon Juice, expressing her disgust at the purity ponies on the left and their dismissal of the importance of the expansion of Medicaid because of Obamacare.

I will never get over them dismissing Medicaid. The MOST LIBERAL part of Obamacare, by far, and they dismissed it as something for poor people. Obamacare was a no-brainer for liberals. Why do you support it? Because it vastly expands health care for lower income people. You don’t even have to “decide”- the answer is “yes”.

I heard about a study yesterday where they’re positing that the Medicaid expansion saves on the Social Security disability program for low income people- there are two disability programs- one is income-based. Apparently a lot of them were applying for disability not because they can’t work at all but because they needed health care. It’s HUGE. I think it’s the biggest expansion of an entitilement in my lifetime.

Get THE ENTIRE PHUCK outta here!!!

In a new poll, half of Republicans say they would support postponing the 2020 election if Trump proposed it
By Ariel Malka and Yphtach Lelkes
    August 10 at 5:00 AM

Critics of President Trump have repeatedly warned of his potential to undermine American democracy. Among the concerns are his repeated assertions that he would have won the popular vote had 3 to 5 million “illegals” not voted in the 2016 election, a claim echoed by the head of a White House advisory committee on voter fraud.

Claims of large-scale voter fraud are not true, but that has not stopped a substantial number of Republicans from believing them. But how far would Republicans be willing to follow the president to stop what they perceive as rampant fraud? Our recent survey suggests that the answer is quite far: About half of Republicans say they would support postponing the 2020 presidential election until the country can fix this problem.

This ‘presidency’ is revealing the true motivation behind much of the GOP – win at all costs.

Democracy? Who cares if it helps them win?

I see some excuses being made in some corners for the Congressional GOP being intimidated by Trump, so they support him.

I don’t think they need that kind of pressure. They just want to keep the GOP in control of the White House as long as they can, no matter how criminal the Executive branch proves to be.

  53. August 10, 2017 at 9:44 am

    From Kay at BJ:

This Buzzfeed piece is amazing-not because it reveals Trump is “obsessed” with Obama– that was clear when Trump launched his birther campaign, but because it shows how weak other countries think Trump is.

Because it really is competitive. Other countries vie for position (as they should) so weakness really does matter in negotiating. Part of the reason they believe (rightly) that he’s weak is because he’s poorly prepared- he doesn’t know what he’s negotiating. They will take advantage of that, again, as they should. Trump’s negotiating partners don’t care that Americans elected a dope. That’s an advantage for them. They’ll play that for all it’s worth.

How funny is it that the big swaggering assholes on Team Trump are the weakest people in the room, and everyone else knows it. They are that special kind of ignorant, where they are the last people to know no one outside their base is buying this bullshit. So much for the supposed “savvy” of the real estate heir. They think he’s a chump.

I am just sneaking in from an undisclosed location so as to give a heads up. Now that we know that the homegrown demagogue is determined to remove outreach & depress enrollment in Obamacare, ordinary people can take steps to counteract this sabotage. I have been part of a local volunteer effort to conduct outreach and help enrollment. What I had to do is to show up at one of the grassroots organizations that conduct this outreach and enrollment. Through this organization, I then signed up on line with the federal center for Medicare and Medicaid & read the material (mainly about HIPAA & insurance basics) took an online test & was then certified to enroll people are the margins of society. In addition to protests, this is something else we can do in our community to support Obamacare & Medicaid expansion. Someone here mentioned that they can’t just do defense, well here is one way to do offense. Please pass on this information to your network & the activists groups you know. Thanks a lot
