      Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world like a colossus, and we petty men walk under his huge legs and peep about to find ourselves dishonorable graves. Men at some time are masters of their fates. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars but in ourselves, that we are underlings….William Shakespeare

      This is one of my favorite quotes, it describes with stunning accuracy the breadth and width of the GOP. Petty men engaged in petty things because to do great and honorable things is a vision that they lack and an appetite that they suppress.

      More than propping up now, they brought it into being, fed it, nurtured it and built it under dark tables in back rooms, funded by the American taxpayer, all the while thinking how mightily they will benefit. Now, in abject fear, the Light of intelligent justice shines upon their cold, selfish motivations, and they begin to see how wrong they were and are. The fear they experience will drive them onward to even greater madness as they seek to avoid their fate. They will fail, and fail miserably, as they for years wished on President Obama, all the while their effort will allow the light, goodness and wisdom that is PBO to shine ever brighter, casting no shadow. Exposure to that light will cause them to shrivel into non-existence, as even the soul can die if it cannot find its own way back to God. Such is the way of things.

      It seems as though only “our” history gets to be trivialized and re-imagined, they wouldn’t dare trivialize or re-imagine the history of the Holocaust, oh no. To set out and change the history of slavery in America is to disrespect all those lives that went through the “Door of No Return” on Goree Island. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so “woke.” Sometimes I wish that the only thing I cared about was the latest fashion or the latest “in” thing. Sometimes I wish I could wallow in pure ignorance, but as James Baldwin said “To be black and conscious in America is to be in a constant state of rage.”

        And the creators, in their white privilege, have no concern for the timing of this revisionist fantasy when there are actual Nazis in the White House, and the “Take America Back” crowd thinks their savior is in the Oval Office.

        …or are they honoring some big-money wish-fulfillment to egg on the already dangerously delusional Trump base?

As I’ve said before, each of these crims should enjoy a minimum of 6 months to one year in true solitary, so they may have time to look deeply into the decisions they made which brought them there.     each time I think about Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the insults that are being thrown at him by people from his own party;

    ………… I just shake my heard in disbelief about the stupidity of those republicans who are undertaking the attacks.

    ………….anyone with a functioning brain would know that these attacks would just make Director Mueller and his team more determined to get to the bottom of the Russian scandal;

    …….. don’t these people know that he has been preparing for this role all his life and that he will give everything he has to uncover any illegal activity;

    …….. the greatest irony would be if Director Mueller, a lifelong republican, takes down a traitorous republican administration and complicit republican party;

          And a stark raving mad fascist as well if you look at the party he supported in Australia. Its like ISIS radicalization. We have radical fascists in many of these histories recently. I would not be surprised if that was Snowden’s mo. The Koch’s are fascists and have been dirty and creepy in our own country for years. At first I couldn’t get why the Birchers like the Kochs would be in alliance with Putin or Trump. After catching up I learned that Russia is basically fascist at this point. So they traded one extreme for the other. The Birchers have always been associated with McCarthyism and red scare tactics. How did these types come to embrace the KGB I have wondered. Well the link was fascism even in the extreme right wing of churches like Catholicism. Pope Francis is on to them though and he’s been through this up front and personal in his native country.

      Sure, lets ignore Russia and talk about trying to win over the working class Trump voter that pretty much wouldn’t vote Democrat to save their own lives. Not to put too much of a fine point on it, but fuck the Trump voter be they Democrat or Republican, because if you voted for Trump that shows me you don’t really give a damn about the economy or much of anything else.

    • August 5, 2017 at 12:36 pm

      UGH, I cannot believe this BS. I don’t really get why people are so infatuated with Gavin Newsom or why any of those others in the article think this is the answer. When you have a horror show like Trump facing us every single day, of course it’s important and relevant. UGH.

        Yep, I fear that we are slipping into a period of BO (before Obama) when we were looking for something greater than ourselves to grasp onto. And now we are in a period of AO (after Obama) in which we are trying to find the next Obama. But if we were to challenge ourselves to be the best we can be without compromising our morality then we could end in in a better position.

      • August 5, 2017 at 1:32 pm

        Because he’s the best we’ve got right now, and is an awesome guy. Push back on this and tell him why. No reason to allow them to go down the stupid road. And no reason to abandon him either.

        • August 5, 2017 at 3:22 pm

          I know who he is. He was my mayor for 7 years and he’s been our Lt. Gov for 6 years. Everyone I know in the Capitol says he does squat in his position but hangs out. He does talk a very good game, I will give you that. He appears to know what he’s doing. I’m just saying I’m not all that impressed. He’s primarily been running for governor ALL this time. And if he can’t see that Trump’s transgressions are not merely political but seriously violate our national security, democracy and our sovereignty, then I really don’t care to vote for him. So I disagree that he’s the best we’ve got right now. Not by along shot.

              Is it me or does he often get louder and inline when the bulk of people already ahead of him?

              the only thing I remember him being upfront about in his advocacy was on marriage equality – and for that he gets my appreciation;

              I do not always put him in the group of ground-breaking, fearless Democrats ….. maybe I need a refresher because I live far from him

              • August 5, 2017 at 3:42 pm

                Yes, he did a great thing for marriage equality but it’s SF, after all. For me, he’s just alright, a very wealthy guy who made mistakes but always gets a pass.

    Do you believe in mermaids, unicorns and fairies?

    If so, you may have taken interest in a new mythical creature that appeared during the 2016 election: the Trump Democrat.

    It has become an article of faith that an unusually large number of people who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 or 2012 switched sides and voted for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. It follows that Democrats, to win in the future, need to get these lost partisans to come home.

    But new data, and an analysis by AFL-CIO political director Michael Podhorzer that he shared with me, puts all this into question. The number of Obama-to-Trump voters turns out to be smaller than thought. And those Obama voters who did switch to Trump were largely Republican voters to start with. The aberration wasn’t their votes for Trump but their votes for Obama.
    This is important, because it means Democrats don’t have to contort themselves to appeal to the mythical Trump Democrats by toughening their position on immigration, or weakening their support for universal health care, or embracing small government and low taxes. What Democrats have to do is be Democrats.

    from the review…
    “Detroit” is presented as a valuable portrait of a bloody, violent, and important moment of American history. The epilogue detailing what happened next for everyone involved over pictures of the real-life versions of the characters and story gestures at vital commentary about racism that the filmmakers never get a handle on. Bigelow, Boal, and their collaborators are unable to meaningfully parallel this event to the present-day happenings they mirror. Watching “Detroit,” I didn’t see a period drama, but a horror film. The horror of white filmmakers taking on black history and the violence perpetuated upon black bodies with an unwavering eye yet nothing to say.

    Bonjour tout les mondes! WLadyMPW seems to have slept through the best party this year, utterly crashed but then disrupted every two hours as is the custom around this joint. What a week… But more importantly, I was about to notate the upcoming lunar eclipse on Monday 7th August, when I found this wonderful article which does the job even better! Almost back in balance after the water event, (bathtub flood), everything. Everything dried out well and I took the misfortune as an opportunity to downsize again, in hopes of really truly moving away from here. The kitty, on the other hand, had moments of wondering how her mama had become so obviously a lunatic – reminded me this is why she chose to be a stray for 9+ years: “hoomens are pitty weerd “, I’m sure I heard her say more than once, when she thought I couldn’t hear her 🙀😹. Okay, I will start off by saying that I am also guilty of this:

    many Americans, media and punditry are easily distracted and often fail to connect events that happened not too long ago.

    Case in point are four things that appear related in my mind:

    (a) during one of the debates, Secretary Hillary Clinton telling the homegrown demagogue to his face that he is a Russian puppet – – and his flustered reaction to this statement;

    (b) former high-ranking members of the intelligence community, from both parties, who took the very unusual step of telling anyone who could listen that the homegrown demagogue was compromised and had been cultivated by russia for a long time now;

    (c) the fact that one of the first pronouncements that the people within the homegrown demagogue’s team made was that they were going to completely weaken and change the US intelligence community – if I recall correctly, banon, flynn, and kushner were supposed to lead this dismantling and change —- and we now have some idea about their own suspicious relationship ;

    (d) during one of these public hearings in the Senate (or congress) one of the members of the FBI leadership team (I think it was the head of counter-intelligence in the FBI) who, when asked if the homegrown demagogue was not compromised, could not answer in his defense. can anyone imagine if this response could have been given about any other occupant of the WH?

    okay, maybe I have a very active mind but these things continue to haunt me …. this is not normal

    If anyone missed this, take the few minutes for this Al Gore one-on-one with Bill Maher, even if you hate Bill.

    Are we missing a choice for leader of our party? Al is awesome. He’s also the one person who could bring the globe together on Climate Change, which is literally the biggest issue we face as a planet.

    • 129 cd4biden
      August 5, 2017 at 4:53 pm

      Hi Tally,
      Al Gore is much more credible and can accomplish far more as a private citizen than as a candidate and elected official where he is constrained by so much on what he can say or do. If you watch the movie you will see some of the work he did behind the scenes to bring about the Paris Climate Accord. He is free to travel where he wants very easily, and because of who he is and was, every door is open to him, so he gets a lot accomplished without having to follow governmental protocols, etc.
      To all at TOD, go see his new movie that is out now nationwide. I saw it yesterday and learned a lot. Yes, as some say, he could go much further with his comments, etc., but he is trying to reach the masses with his message, not just those of us who already concur with him. And it was wonderful to see how much wind and solar have taken off and some of what China and India are now doing, not to mention other countries like Chile. I could go on…..

      Wonderful NerdyW has opened a new thread, but I couldn’t help but notice that Usain Bolt’s physique is that of a *perfect* male human.

      Compare to all the white supremacists (most of whom I didn’t know existed before FUBAR) gnashing their teeth, and most of whom share FUBAR’s physique.

      We all knew that journalists seethed with jealousy over PBO’s ability (they could never achieve his effortless grace with words), and no doubt resented PBO’s physique as well.
