Congrats, Nena, on first, and I totally agree, our dear Nerdy Wonka is a brilliant Force. Thank you, Nerdy, from the bottom of my heart!!

Good evening, and good morning TOD. Been lurking on and off for quite a while. All I have energy for these days. Don’t know how you all keep up on so many things. I am indebted to you all for keeping me so well informed on all the cray cray in DC. And of course for filling my life with fabulous music (Dudette!!) and all things Obama! Thank you, thank you! And, so cute, I just had my birthday and my kids preordered Pete Sousa’s book and made a donation to The Obama Foundation in my name as their gifts to me. They said they couldn’t think of another thing I would want, and they were so right!! Love my kids!

Those who applauded and cheered should be terminated. Supporting police brutality at a time when cops shooting unarmed civilians is at an all time high is beyond reprehensible. And Trump was encouraging brutalizing SUSPECTS in police custody. Disgusting.

Whose to say that DT or some of his people did not pay others to be in the crowd and cheer when he made his comments. You know how many people, when in a large crowd, have a tendency to clap because others are clapping? Same can be said for cheering. Or they could have been threatened by their superiors if they didn’t cheer?
Just saying…..because I can’t believe a man in uniform would cheer about such a thing. So I’m just hoping there is another explanation.

I was speaking with a like minded friend and her children work in military or VA related jobs, as well as follow issues closely. I guess they were recently remarking on the culture of ICE, that there are a number of very violent and disturbed people working in that agency. They indicated that people have been purposefully joining the agency over the last years because they are xenophobic and want to have a legitimate excuse to brutalize people. It makes perfect sense to me. Instead of just arming themselves at the border and risking arrest for vigilante actions they decided to infiltrate a whole agency. Perhaps this has been encouraged through some organization that hates immigrants but in any case we should try to make sure to protect the innocents because they are certainly in the line of fire.

Yeah, catrst, I kind of knew my ideas were not very close to the truth. I was hoping, though. I think you, sadly, are right. I worry so much about those who are in the line of fire, and their loved ones. We are working hard where i live to set up warning systems, and more. I hope it doesn’t come to that, but, again, I know I am probably dreaming. Thanks for your info.

Maybe its just me but somehow this looks like a group that is talking about the latest cell phone app being developed, not a missile defense system for South Korea, to protect them from the maniacs to the north. Its just a visual impression that seems so out of step with the context of their discussion.

Huckabee is so mean spirited. His daughter the same. One thing about this time period, we can see inspiring dedicated to honor and truth in Malcolm Nance and Kazir Khan for example and at the same time see the depths of corruption and brutal mindedness in the likes of Huckabee. Makes me think of WWII. Horrible monsters and incredible courage and sacrifice to stop them. That’s not the only example. Racial terrorism is another example within this country.

Question. who in the wide world came up with 755 as the number of diplomats in Russia? IN WHAT WORLD??

      • 43 jacquelineoboomer
        July 30, 2017 at 11:22 pm

I could be wrong, but I think somewhere I read those 755 included staff workers – even some Russian citizens who worked there, if that’s possible? The former ambassador (McCaul) tweeted it’s definitely not 755 “diplomats.”

      July 31, 2017 at 10:30 am

You made me laugh when I thought we could have a hostage type exchange, for 755 people. Give them Trump. Maybe he could bunk with Snowden. Another thought, if we really don’t have 755 diplomatic personnel in Russia, are they sending another Trogan horse our way but sending back the Russian spies we expelled?

    In today’s paper here.

    Anatomy of the Trump presidency

In an earlier article in this newspaper (“Understanding the Trump phenomenon,” August 5, 2016), I suggested that it was necessary to take Donald Trump’s candidacy and its implications more seriously than many were doing then. Six months into the Trump presidency, the American media remains fascinated with the new “reality show” that has entered the White House.

As every small skirmish, move and tweet is given inordinate scrutiny and attention, it is easy however to lose sight of the big picture.

The fourth point is more crucial still, and concerns the projection of American power abroad. Since the end of the Cold War, and the emergence of the unipolar American-dominated system around 1990, speculation has gone on regarding the nature of potential challenges to it. These could come from other state-systems, such as China, or the European Union, or from unclassifiable systems and forms, such as al-Qaeda or the Islamic State. But few could have predicted that the real challenge would come from within the U.S. itself. Yet, this is what has happened. The Trump administration appears singularly unconcerned with, and inept in dealing with, foreign policy, and after all its core internal constituency is firmly ‘isolationist’ in its inclinations. The State Department is today in utter disarray. The Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, is from the petroleum industry and seems out of his depth; so that rumours even surface regularly of his imminent resignation.

Based on the past six months, it seems likely that by 2020, the systematic projection of American power on a global scale would have shrunk considerably.

  19. July 31, 2017 at 12:10 am

IMO Cripes. If you believe anything has “backfired” between Putin & Trumputin you are desperately seeking to excuse the Dicktraitor and recapture U.S. dignity. Drillerson is coincidentally ‘on vacation” while all this is going on? Come on!
More like Big Oil Putin/Trump Mission Accomplished–for now that is.
