      Our Parks & Rec this week posted 2 teeny tiny signs saying the nearest park is suddenly to be sprayed with pesticide.
      The sign was up maybe two days. Assuming city wide. This park is immediately next to school grounds and the children
      use it on and off all day. People come with their babies, barbeques, dogs, weekly football and baseball games for schools.
      Fun play-on toys for young children. The park is heavily used.. Notably this city has been eco-friendly on parks until now.
      Suddenly we are having pesticides? Trump policies changes? For example we know Trump has refused to ban insecticides
      and is openly in bed with Head of Dow Chemicals, Andrew Liveris.

      • July 1, 2017 at 2:30 pm

        My neighbor for years died of multiple cancers. He grew up on a farm that sprayed all sorts. After building his own house
        in the Scandinavian style here, he continued to spray god knows what on his lawn. We liked each other but it bothered him
        that we didn’t spray and let the dandelions be. His sweet daughter lives there now and the family continues to spray whatever
        to keep the grass squeaky green. They have two small children but fail to see the connection between that and
        her grandfather’s cruel death.

          Have you considered talking to them about this – in a gentle way of course – maybe you explaining to them why you don’t practice what they do. You never know….

          • July 1, 2017 at 3:12 pm

            They’re OK about the dandelions – so a great start. This Mom is from a GOP heritage but as a nurse she LOVES
            what PBO has done to help. A big PBO fan. So we have that in common too. Maybe one day the topic of green will
            come up. Folks are planting more natural vegetation that doesn’t require water or fussing. And organic gardening
            with the space they do have instead of spraying poison and endlessly mowing to keep uniform lawns green.

    •The sound of waves brushing upon the land, or
    •A breeze ruffling the tree leaves;
    Take a moment to take it in today. ❤ ❤ ❤

    I am very grateful to members of the US Secret Service for keeping PBO and The Forever First Family safe – these public servants have made it possible for the worry to subside;

    These women and men chose to go into public service of all who are placed in their care;

    Yet, just from me looking in, something that has always struck is how lucky the members of US Secret Service detail that is assigned to The Obamas are;

    Not only are they responsible for taking special care of people who I have no doubt treat them with the preciousness they deserve for putting their lives on the line, they have been able to go to so many places that some presidents would not go;

    I am wondering if these public servants take time to reflect on the unique and diverse places that they have been able to visit as they accompany The Obamas to different parts of the world and across all levels of social demographic tapestry.

    when you looking at some of the photos in this blog entry, I keep being drawn to the gentleman in pink (who I believe is PBO’s principal US Secret Service agent).

    the expression on his face seems to say me a lot about the relationship between the protected and protector and how they ended up where they are ………

    and this is not the first time I have observed the agents without their “various on-the-job-faces”

    …. living in Ohio, I have repeatedly seen them standing next to me when I volunteered for PBO and FLOTUS’ events and they will not you distract them when they are on the job;

    …. but sometimes these photos with The Obamas get them with their more unguarded expressions and they give a possible window into their feelings;

    maybe I am letting my imagination run wild ………

      No you are not. Only today as I looked at the pics, I thought to myself how fortunate they are to be exposed to such varied culture as well as the fact that they take they job seriously. You can almost feel the admiration they have for their charges coming out of the pictures.

      I always check out the SS agents who surround them. No matter where the family is, the agents are serious as a heart attack, looking at their surroundings with intensity. The family does treat them with respect and affection. During the first campaign, Michelle and the girls made valentines for the agents families and agents were invited in the house to watch the Super Bowl game. When they were in the WH, Michelle related a little anecdote in how they fought over having an agent named Sean on their detail (“How do you get to have Sean” one of the girls asked.) and that they did not try to do things that would make the agents’ jobs harder, even as they insisted that their girls be allowed to live the typical life of young girls who did not live in WH. I also heard a story from someone who was related to a member of their detail who told me how much their SS agents loved them and were determined to protect them at all costs. Really, for the most part in this world, you receive what you give. The Obamas give respect and kindness and they receive it back. This is better than gold, stolen temporary power, and ignorant praise of thousands.

          (See response I just posted to GCL re: St. Augustine, near you, I think.)

          Heard on @CBSradionews that John Adams never accepted July 4 as Independence Day — in his mind, the anniversary of US independence from Britain happened on July 2:

          From Wikipedia:
          “The Declaration was ultimately a formal explanation of why Congress had voted on July 2 to declare independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The next day, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail: “The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.”[4] But Independence Day is actually celebrated on July 4, the date that the Declaration of Independence was approved.”

          Thank you so much for this reminder…thank you…i know that folks may not want to…and i did not post here…but go listen to Trump’s 4th of July message to the country and the world…..i offset that message by promoting the speech that Pres Obama gave at the 50th commemoration of Bloody Sunday..at Pettus Bridge…i also looked up the speech that Justice Thurgood Marshall gave at the 200th anniversary of the Constitution…in 1987….i will post it down thread…he said that he celebrated not the constitution of the Founders but the constitution of today with all of its Amendments….
