    Really disgusted that cops keep getting away with shooting Black people down like dogs. As others have said, the system isn’t broken, it’s working the way it was designed.

    “To be Black and conscious in America is to be in a constant state of rage.” – James Baldwin

    If not an outright rage then a low simmer, the next Philando Castile is just around the corner waiting to jump out and say here I am America. We stay at a low simmer, because if we didn’t we’d go insane just thinking about the injustice of it all. We expect this verdict, but we are always surprised and hurt when the verdict is given. Somewhere in the back of our minds we always hold out hope that this time it will be different, and it never is different. We want to believe, he have to believe because if we don’t believe then there is no hope. Just for once let our bullet riddled bodies know justice, just give us that small crumb, please, we need it.

    The police in my all-too-white city managed to arrest a white supremacist, blood-soaked knife-wielding murderer at the MAX stop without hurting HIM, but young black men get killed by them all too often. So ashamed of my country right now!

      Me too Judith. I am also hurt by those on twitter who seek to justify these cops’ actions and refuse to see the white privilege of white men or the fact that the innocent are killed, and those white criminals are kept alive.

    A friend of mine just had a son. I was so thrilled for him and congratulated him and his wife. This beautiful young life is a biracial child. The moment I congratulated him, immediately my mind went fast forward to this beautiful child’s later years…and anger and then fear cursed through me….I can only pray that by the time this newborn grows into a young man, that we will have created justice for all by then.

        I know. Somebody’s loved has been lost over what looks like some major stupidity. How the hell does this happen? Rachel says it was 2:30am local time when it occurred. Was somebody “asleep at the wheel” on both ships? Incredible!

      GE Auntie Dudette, congrats on your new nephew, congrats to all in your family and his. 🙂

      Heard on the radio that this destroyer is San Diego-based, so many USN families there are very anxious now. 😦

      Don’t know anything about ships or weaponry, but man alive, we spend so much money on military…

      From the CNN article:
      “The Fitzgerald is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer with a crew of approximately 330 sailors.

      The ship completed $21 million in upgrades and repairs in February and is currently forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, the service said.”

      $21 million on repairs completed 4 months ago, and just a couple of weeks ago…

        Ships can be repaired or replaced. So sad to hear that we may have lost good people in this incident. I’m thinking of them & their families. Hoping for the best.

    For a complete change from American politics, I am watching a documentary on Netflix (in French) “Emmanuel Macron: Behind the Rise” It is fun. His campaign team reminds of very much of PBO’s…young, intelligent, digitally forward, creative…..and Macron is always completely involved and present. I have a feeling he studied PBO for eight years, planning this run. One of the segments is PBO’s phone call to him, and he’s speaking French with his staff, and as soon as he hears PBO’s voice, he switches to perfect English. Have enjoyed watching the interaction between him and his wife…..they are obviously a team, and love each other. Oh yes, he has beautiful blue eyes.

    Someone on my FB page said that he and others would be speaking English at the G7 until Trump would come in the room, and he would switch to French, and so would all the other Europeans…….just one more way to troll Trump. I’m watching and listening in French because I can’t get the English subtitles to work. This is very much like the documentary after PBO was elected.

    I hope that I am pleasantly surprised by the results of 06GA election and Mr. Ossoff wins;

    …. but there are three reasons I am waiting until the final vote tally is announced:

    (a) a majority of republicans have a way to justify their votes even for someone (known criminal) or something they know is fundamentally wrong and/or will negatively affect the livelihoods of them, family and neighbors …. just as long as it hurts other people they consider unworthy or hate …. and these republicans vote enmass;

    (b) reported purged voter roles and gaps and vulnerabilities in the voting machines which can and will be exploited by the unrepentant republicans;

    (c) a majority of democrats who always find flimsy reasons not to vote for a candidate … and voters who choose not to exercise their right not to vote especially when reports indicate that the Dem is leading in the polls;

    • 93 Betsy
      June 17, 2017 at 11:41 am

      All of this^^^. Once I heard about the voter rolls purged, the machines’ vulnerability to hacking and the state’s lack of willingness to act, I’m afraid my hope for a win is fading….

    Don’t forget that 45 tried to do business in Cuba in violation of the US embargo.

    Also note, that as much as 45 claims that he is not a politician, he launched a bid for president back in 1999. Between his bids for office and his lobbying/bribing legislators, how does that not make him a politician…in addition to a carnival barker and a con man???

    =====

    “HOW DONALD TRUMP’S COMPANY VIOLATED THE UNITED STATES EMBARGO AGAINST CUBA”

    http://www.newsweek.com/2016/10/14/donald-trump-cuban-embargo-castro-violated-florida-504059.html

    A company controlled by Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, secretly conducted business in Communist Cuba during Fidel Castro’s presidency despite strict American trade bans that made such undertakings illegal, according to interviews with former Trump executives, internal company records and court filings.

    Documents show that the Trump company spent a minimum of $68,000 for its 1998 foray into Cuba at a time when the corporate expenditure of even a penny in the Caribbean country was prohibited without U.S. government approval. But the company did not spend the money directly. Instead, with Trump’s knowledge, executives funneled the cash for the Cuba trip through an American consulting firm called Seven Arrows Investment and Development Corp. Once the business consultants traveled to the island and incurred the expenses for the venture, Seven Arrows instructed senior officers with Trump’s company—then called Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts—how to make it appear legal by linking it after the fact to a charitable effort.

    The payment by Trump Hotels came just before the New York business mogul launched his first bid for the White House, seeking the nomination of the Reform Party. On his first day of the campaign, he traveled to Miami, where he spoke to a group of Cuban-Americans, a critical voting bloc in the swing state. Trump vowed to maintain the embargo and never spend his or his companies’ money in Cuba until Fidel Castro was removed from power.He did not disclose that, seven months earlier, Trump Hotels already had reimbursed its consultants for the money they spent on their secret business trip to Havana.

      It has been very very strange here. As of this past week it has been more “police state” than anything. Due to the 7 people shot in different areas over a period of a few hours last weekend. So they are doubling shifts, bringing out helicopters for everything- many times each day. There never seems to be a norm or happy medium. We either don’t see a cop for weeks and things get out of hand… or we’re feeling underseige… or maybe that’s just me.

      We constantly talk here about how we need cops walking a beat … last winter for a short time we had that on the “business” street – one block over from us.. but they never ventured into the neighborhood- where stuff happens. But more than that it is an opportunity for us and the police to meet/ communicate- and for them to know us and hopefully see us as people and families here. The dynamics would be healthier. Also due to the sex trafficking here- we get a LOT of men trolling the streets in their vehicles- sometimes from out of state even… and regular knowledge of our streets/families/ homes by patrols would make all the difference in that area. But on top of everything else I feel they don’t due sensibly (police) they change out the officers patrolling, so that we seldom see the same officers. How do they ever get to see us as people, and yes I include the junkies, the hookers and the dealers in that. It all seems so arbitrary and also reactionary.

      The “community police” thing is a different entity from the police (911; etc) they aren’t (if I’m recalling correctly) not cops out patrolling, but who you contact regarding specific stuff within the community. None the less this is a detriment no matter their role here.

      On the topic of Trump’s budget, I do not doubt that he will hurt every community – especially cities – however possible. Baltimore seems to rarely be on anyone’s uppermost list of cities to love and cherish.. imo.

      More and more…i lay the blame for all these mishaps and degrades of routine of the Executive branch at the feet of the GOP Congress,,,who refuse to rein in this President because they are on a destructive course themselves…a course to destroy the safety net….and the democratic essence of our country….

      WeThePeople must find a way to stop them….and we must remember the lessons that PBO has taught us about how to win!!!…

    President Trump says he’s received tens of millions of dollars in income from the golf courses and resorts whose profile he boosted during frequent visits since taking office, according to filings released Friday by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.

    Properties that Trump frequently visited as president saw the largest boost in income. Trump claimed more than $37 million in income from Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach County resort in Florida he described as his “Winter White House,” as well as $20 million in income from the nearby golf club he owns in Jupiter, Florida. His claimed Mar-a-Lago income rose rapidly since his last two financial disclosures with the FEC: Trump reported more than $15 million in income from the resort in the 2015 report, followed by $29 million in the 2016 version.

    Golfing and vacationing are bipartisan presidential traditions, as are the partisan critiques of the presidents who partake in them. But Trump has taken his leisure time to new levels both in volume and location.

        GM GCL.

        Gotta run, BBL.

        It’s very illuminating to sit on a jury panel — have you been seated on one?

        I’ve only been on a single jury panel, 30 years ago — obstruction of justice for a 6’4″ 21 year old white man who needed medical attention after 2 (short 5’7″ or so) white police officers jumped him/ applied choke hold.

        We were a hung jury because 11 of us voted “not guilty” but one woman (who seemed reasonable during jury selection process) crossed her arms and firmly stated “police can do no wrong” and wouldn’t budge.

        (Everyone in courtroom was white, except for me and a Latino man on the jury.)

        BBL.
