Evening Times: Barack Obama’s Scottish Dinner Event Raised £670,000 For Charities

A charity dinner attended by former US president Barack Obama raised £670,000 for causes in Scotland. Organised by the Hunter Foundation, Mr Obama made his first trip to the country for a speech in front of about 1,200 people including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, author JK Rowling and musician Annie Lennox. All profits from the night, including an auction, are to go charities taking part in the Kiltwalk campaign.

MUST READ. This particular assessment goes to my thought regarding Republicans stealing healthcare from millions…an attempt to make us even weaker. People literally fighting for their lives tend to be subservient.

    http://www.latimes.com/business/lazarus/la-fi-lazarus-nursing-home-arbitration-20170613-story.html

Let’s say your elderly parent was neglected or abused in a nursing home. In the past, your only recourse might have been arbitration, rather than going to court.

But thanks to a rule put in place last fall by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, nursing homes that receive federal funding — which is most of them — could no longer include so-called mandatory arbitration clauses in their contracts. In other words, residents and their family members were given back the right to sue.

Now the Trump administration is trying to get rid of that protection.

Under-new-management CMS released a proposed rule last week that would rescind the earlier rule and once again make forced arbitration the industry standard.

Rob Weissman, president of the advocacy group Public Citizen, described the move to me as “a heartless and vile act.”

“The Trump administration apparently thinks it is okay for nursing homes to force seniors into signing contract terms that give up their right to sue in court if they are subsequently victimized by neglect or abuse,” he said. “It’s hard to imagine a more callous policy.”

Be that as it may, Pat McGinnis, executive director of California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform, said the proposed regulatory step backward is hardly a surprise.

“The nursing-home industry has lobbied very hard for this,” she said.

    GM/GA TODville.

Thank you, NerdyW, for the Evening Times article.

    From the article, LOL.

“The Democrat vowed to return to experience ”real” Scottish weather after playing golf in 26C (78.8F) heat at the end of May.

He said: ”I promise you I will be back because, unless it is raining and blustery, I will not feel I have got the full Scottish experience.”’

And PBO in a kilt? (Spoiler alert: unlikely)
“Mr Obama was presented with a kilt to mark his visit but seems unlikely to wear it in public.

He told the audience in Edinburgh he would prefer a pair of Sir Tom’s tartan trousers.

Mr Obama said: ”Unfortunately, I have concluded my legs are too thin to pull it off, but those (tartan) trousers I have seen you wear. I think they look pretty good. So I might try some.”’

    😀

He probably don’t recall: But Sessions has had a lot of rehearsal time on body language and inevitable questions by the KOCH experts. Performance illusion and deception is of optimum importance to Trump.
–The making of America into LITTLE RUSSIA is snowballing and Republicans at all levels in one way and other have colluded.

  71. June 13, 2017 at 6:14 pm

Since President Trump won the Republican nomination, the majority of his companies’ real estate sales are to secretive shell companies that obscure the buyers’ identities, a USA TODAY investigation has found.

Over the last 12 months, about 70% of buyers of Trump properties were limited liability companies – corporate entities that allow people to purchase property without revealing all of the owners’ names. That compares with about 4% of buyers in the two years before.

Trump’s companies owned more than 430 individual properties worth well over $250 million.

Since Election Day, Trump’s businesses have sold 28 of those U.S. properties for $33 million.

Profits from sales of those properties flow through a trust run by Trump’s sons. The president is the sole beneficiary of the trust and can withdraw cash any time.

The increasing share of opaque buyers comes at a time when federal investigators, members of Congress and ethics watchdogs are asking questions about Trump’s sales and customers in the U.S. and around the world.

Can you believe Cotton’s weasely parting shot today was an attempt to deflect this issue on to Democrats.

  77. June 14, 2017 at 12:12 am

ATTENTION ALL TOD’ERS: Has anyone noticed that nearly all videos on this site, as well as on FB and Twitter, now carry the disclaimer: ‘The media could not be played?” Most are of a political nature, and most are ‘unflattering’ to Trump. This has been happening to me and many others for several days now – it appears to be widespread. Has our social media been hacked? Is anyone else having this problem? I have tried unsuccessfully to contact Twitter Help and FB Help on this issue. I find it perfectly logical that the GOP would be in favor of silencing our voices and ability to organize – they have seen the power social media wields. What can we do about this???
