    Hi Pamela and TOD! Resurfacing after a month away. We were in Italy when the Obamas were there. Not in the same town, but fun to think they were not very far away. Such a treat to see them going about their business all over the world!

    I love to hear Michelle talk about the double standard women face, the eight year tux, but in that speech she gave Tuesday she talked about other worth while subjects, like making room for women in tech, women of diversity, having room at the table.

    Maybe it’s possible the four witnesses today – who all “colluded” not to divulge anything, and pretty much kept to their agreed-upon playbook – decided to hold back, tell the senators in a closed hearing, tell Mueller everything … to be able to hold onto their jobs in the meantime, so they’ll be there to hold the IC together when trump goes down. Maybe because their story of “being pressured” is but a minor infraction compared to all trump has done illegally, and they know it. And I have to believe trump will eventually go down, because he’s totally in the bag for Mother Russia, has scammed everybody he’s come in contact with his whole life, and now is scamming our entire country.

    That’s my theory, and I’m sticking to it … at least until tomorrow!

      I share this with you, JO’B. I feel they may be buying a bit more time to tighten the details. It occurred to me earlier if 45 thinks he’s getting away with something, he may run off a year the mouth even more, and really show what he’s about. We all know he is not the sharpest tool in the shed. A tool, for sure, but not very smart. Discouraging tho, to think who I am really running things in the Oval Office while the reality show plays out.

    …….. I must say that I do not understand the tactic of releasing Director Comey’s testimony before the live event tomorrow

    …….. may be I am being shortsighted when I think that this pre-release removes the element of surprise and gives Team Traitor a chance to get their stories straight;

    …… I trust that Team Comey knows better than me how to go stuff … so I will wait

          Tomorrow will be crazy for sure, no matter what happens. I expect Comey will just speak the truth, whatever that is. GOP will try and spin everything to protect Trump, which will be laughable and frustrating.

    Interesting that Adm. Mike Rogers (per discussion on Rachel’s show) was also up for firing by President Obama, following the recommendation of then-Secretary of Defense Ash Carter … as retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn was indeed fired … and they both ended up with jobs in the trump non-administration. Rogers even apparently took a personal leave day, removed his uniform, and paid a visit to non-president-elect trump at trump towers in NYC.

        This information needs to be covered by the MSM much more. Voter suppression is a real problem in the U.S. and with Republicans in charge of everything, it’s about to get a whole lot worse. Well, I’m with globalcitizenlinda upthread. I don’t have a clue why Comey released that statement a whole day before his testimony. The executive privilege question had been answered on Tuesday when the WH declared that they would not invoke EP. Now watching cable this morning the Republican side has had a day to prepare and have a rapid response team in place. The R’s on the Senate IC already know what questions that are going to hone in on to try and deflect the obstruction of justice scenario. I’ve had my issues with Comey for sure but I’m just not getting this move. He comes across as this powerful guy in the FBI but then he didn’t know how to tell the President that he was crossing the line with his questions and request. That’s what the Republicans are going to focus on today. Call me a pessimist but I’m not setting my hopes on this testimony today. I hope I’m wrong but I just cannot count on this guy to be the guy to get Trump. He already blunted the testimony by eliminating the element of surprise IMO.

    • June 8, 2017 at 8:39 am

      What we saw from the GOP at yesterday’s hearing was appalling. They have no intention of taking this seriously. I hope I’m wrong but it sure doesn’t seem to be striking them as a very dangerous situation. With this insane nutcase at the helm, we are extremely vulnerable, we are sitting ducks, and they do nothing. They seem insulted at the suggestion that Trump is a monster, which he proves every single day.

      The expectations on Comey are so high, they can’t possibly be met. He’s made a mess of his career in so many ways and I have no idea what he intends to do now. He was fired but he has to be measured in what he says so he doesn’t appear to be seeking retribution. But the truth must be so much worse than we know. I have to wonder where this all goes. I’m sickened by this horrific mess every day. And all the while Congress is steadily dismantling, one by one, every civilized law and protection for Americans.

    • June 8, 2017 at 10:20 am

      I’ve been trying to be optimistic, Donna, but we’ve been disappointed too often in recent history. Things that should be a given are not so certain any more. There’s been a lot of hype about this testimony today, and I am — again — hoping for the best. But knowing that the GOP, at most, are just going through the motions and aren’t really trying to do anything that will aid in bringing down 45 and his circle of criminals, I will be pleasantly surprised if something other than the media circus is achieved.

    • 129 CEB
      June 8, 2017 at 11:02 am

      Me too. I do not expect anything to come out of this testimony other than Coney’s attempt to exonerate himself. No smoking guns and no movement on the overall question of collusion. The Republicans have geared up to fight the idea of obstruction of Justice and they really want to punish Comey and to crush our hopes. It would be better for us to focus on what Congress is doing to destroy ACA, Dodd-Frank, the CFPB, voting rights and so many other things while the Russian probe is going on. We are more affected by what the legislative branch does than the executive. I will check in at various times for online reporting of the hearing, but I will not be watching it.

      it seems that one of the excuses the corrupt gop and Team Treason have settled on is that homegrown demagogue is “naïve”, “inexperienced” “a child” and all such nonsense …….;

      but the demagogue KNEW his actions were illegal because :

      – he has spent his life skirting the law and in court;

      – he asked others to leave the room and followed up his bullying of other IC officials multiple times;

      – he didn’t think so when on the campaign trail – quote the multiple times he and Team Treason talked about the implication of a president being under FBI investigation (I wish someone would make a video of these campaign trail);

      – would they make the same excuses if it was a regular person or another president;

      I see Alan Dershowitz, at this point, as nothing but a contrarian. He’s so much in love with the sound of his voice (and probably his clanking mind), that whatever anyone says on an issue, he says the opposite – whether he believes it or not – just to get more attention on himself. I know a couple people like that in my own life, and sometimes you can overlook it, if it doesn’t “hurt anybody.” But the people I know aren’t given a national platform, and Dershowitz has outlived his usefulness at this point.

      From this piece:

      One prong of that crisis concerns the character of the president: Comey, in so many words, has confirmed that Donald Trump is loyalty obsessed, corrupt in his dealings, and lacking in any sense of what constitutes appropriate checks on the power of the president.

      A second prong concerns the president’s actions: Trump administration loyalists are taking solace in and spinning the narrow factual point that Comey did in fact assure Trump three times that he was not under FBI investigation. They ignore the largest thematic point that Comey’s story is one of a president slowly, steadily, incriminating himself. If he was not under investigation before he fired Comey, it is imperative that he be so now.

      The final prong concerns the fact that the broader government is in control of people intent on enabling Trump, complicit in his wrongdoing. This final prong is the one Comey depicts most indirectly, but it is perhaps the most important. The president and his confidants are engaging in grave wrongdoing, and Republicans are denying the public the political means to stop it.
